We live simply and value environmental sensitivity--reduce, reuse,& recycle everything possible, thermostat is set at 78 degrees in summer and around 68 degrees in winter--supported by a wonderful wood burning stove centrally located which means it is usu. closer to 76-80 degrees w/ bedrooms being cooler, There is a washer available for 1 load/wk, but request ALL clothes be washed w/ cold water and air dry whenever possible--have well constructed cable wash line available, and encourage 5-10 min. showers. Having said all of that, we do want you to "make yourself at home" and let us know whether we need to tweak anything.
Kitchen with some cabinet and refrigerator space.
Interaction with Guests
Enjoy interaction, but I also need peace and quiet evenings to finish computer work and free reading. I am comfortable with silence when sharing living room space in front of the fire evenings.
I have lived on this street 11 years and I know, interact and love my neighbors, most of whom are longterm residents,so we "look" out after each other. It is also quiet and safe.
The CH buses are free and travel to CH, Carrboro and Hillsboro. The Triangle Transit bus fare is $2/ride and goes to RDU airport, Duke, greater Durham and Raleigh w/ limited coverage on Sunday.
Other Things to Note
I provide breakfast tems for short term guests--those here for wk or less, but anticipate long term guests provide their own breakfast due to reduced rates.
No smoking on property, Mutual respect for noise after 10pm--request earphones for music/movies, etc Please limit alcohol to 1-2 beers (or comparable)/daily.
My stay was very comfortable and enjoyable. Very welcoming. Good accommodations in a lovely home in a nice neighborhood.
Ruth was wonderful, very welcoming and friendly. I got in late after hours of driving and she had a snack and comfy room ready.
Ruth was a great host. Her home provided a warm and comforting atmosphere with all the essentials a traveler may desire. It was wonderful to come up after long days and have the opportunity to enjoy the company of the other guests or retreat to a quiet bedroom to relax. Her house is minutes from several local grocery stores, coffee shops, shopping centers and recreational facilities which all help give visitors anything they need throughout their stay. As this was my first trip using Airbnb, I wasn't sure what to expect. But after the great nightly conversations with Ruth and her guests, playing with her loving dog and being provided with all the amenities I needed, I can surely say that I had an exceptional time in Chapel Hill and look forward to returning in the future.
Thank you, Daniel , for your kind words. I must say that that it was a pleasure to host you--you immediately became more than a stranger guest by looking for ways to be helpful and sharing your excitement and concerns with your chosen vocation. You are a great addition to the airbnb community and are welcome back anytime!!
Ruth is a most genuine, connected and well grounded person. She was warm but spacious at the same time. She offered all kinds of support and was able to roll with some last minute awkward changes that I needed to make.
I enjoyed the community of travelers and the wonderful atmosphere at her place, including a hearth with fire on the colder evenings! I would give her a six star rating and would definitely come back for another stay. For people who like a balance of quiet/privacy and companionship in an easeful environment, I highly recommend this listing.
This house and host have been the best in my bnb adventures. The house was perfect. The location was a block from Starbucks, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, TCBY yogurt, staples, rite aid, pizza, thai, etc. a fireplace, plenty of comfortable chairs in the living room, great kitchen, excellent beds, very quiet and respectful guests. It was a half block from the main road to UNC, Franklin St. Most importantly, the host, Ruth, made the difference from other bnb's. Friendly, kind, gratious and informative were just a few of her attributes. I will stay here again. As I was leaving, former guests had stopped by for a visit and have lunch. And I almost forgot about a great dog Schatzy!
This location is a great combination of shared common spaces and private sleeping space. Perfect for the traveler who desires privacy but is also open to meeting new people. An incredibly welcoming atmosphere with a homey feel, located across the street from grocery stores and half a block from major bus stops. Great listing!
I lived in Ruth's house for more than a month. Ruth's house is spacious and very cozy, making you feel like home and very comfortable. Ruth is very nice and warm-hearted, she's always there to help you. Ruth's dog, Schaty is the most gentle dog I ever met. Living in Ruth's house is one of the best experiences I ever had when traveling.
