Room is clean and tidy w/ ceiling fan, central a/c & hardwood floors and part of a 2400 sq' single family home located in quiet neighborhood, on D and CL bus line, and within easy access to (website hidden) and Duke U., Whole Foods, East gate shopping ctr and University mall. Have 1 very friendly dog--Schatzien. Share bath and kitchen. Continental breakfast available.
We live simply and value environmental sensitivity--reduce, reuse,& recycle everything possible, thermostat is set at 78 degrees in summer and around 68 degrees in winter--supported by a wonderful wood burning stove centrally located which means it is usu. closer to 76-80 degrees w/ bedrooms being cooler, There is a washer available for 1 load/wk, but request ALL clothes be washed w/ cold water and air dry whenever possible--have well constructed cable wash line available, and encourage 5-10 min. showers. Having said all of that, we do want you to "make yourself at home" and let us know whether we need to tweak anything.
Kitchen with some cabinet and refrigerator space.
Interaction with Guests
Enjoy interaction, but I also need peace and quiet evenings to finish computer work and free reading. I am comfortable with silence when sharing living room space in front of the fire evenings.
I have lived on this street 11 years and I know, interact and love my neighbors, most of whom are longterm residents,so we "look" out after each other. It is also quiet and safe.
The CH buses are free and travel to CH, Carrboro and Hillsboro. The Triangle Transit bus fare is $2/ride and goes to RDU airport, Duke, greater Durham and Raleigh w/ limited coverage on Sunday.
Other Things to Note
I provide breakfast tems for short term guests--those here for wk or less, but anticipate long term guests provide their own breakfast due to reduced rates.
No smoking on property, Mutual respect for noise after 10pm--request earphones for music/movies, etc Please limit alcohol to 1-2 beers (or comparable)/daily.
I lived in Ruth's house for more than a month. Ruth's house is spacious and very cozy, making you feel like home and very comfortable. Ruth is very nice and warm-hearted, she's always there to help you. Ruth's dog, Schaty is the most gentle dog I ever met. Living in Ruth's house is one of the best experiences I ever had when traveling.
Ruth was an amazing host, so hospitable and reliable. Staying in her house made my trip very comfortable because I a had a clean and organized space where I could focus on my duties or just have some rest. It's absolutely well locater near supermarkets, pharmacy, restaurants and bus stops. You can also sit in the living room to read with the same tranquility or talk to her, she is so joyful and fun. She is a woman who loves the things she does, and she loves taking care of her house and you see it from the first moment. She is also very helpful with her guests, if you have any issue you just ask her, you can be sure she will assist you. I absolutely recommend her place either if you are staying for a couple of days or for an extended stay.
Ruth is an excellent host. I enjoyed staying with her and the other house-mates. The room was comfortable with plenty of natural lighting. The bathroom was shared with other guests. The house is located in a nice, safe and very quiet neighborhood, conveniently located near bus stops and shopping centers. Overall, I enjoyed my first airbnb experience and I recommend Ruth's home for your stay in Chapel Hill.
I had the privilege of staying at Ruth's home, in the small 10 x 10 room, for a duration of 3 months for my summer MBA internship. Prior to arriving, the communication with Ruth was fantastic - she was extremely responsive via text and e-mail (thanks to airbnb's synchronized e-mail/text function) and answered many of my questions. I have found Ruth to be a wonderful host mom - very sweet, kind, and probably most importantly - direct and open in her communication. Her house is located within a 5-minute walk of Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and a boutique shopping center in Chapel Hill. The neighborhood is extremely safe, with the advantage of plenty of police officers roaming around given the 2-mile proximity to UNC Chapel Hill.
Ruth also tends to host international students and families for various durations. This element added a cultural experience in a "Southern" atmosphere.
She also has a dog, Schazien ('treasure' in German), who is a half-chow half-Golden retriever. Extremely sweet, kind, and quiet.
Of note is the earlier quiet hours (prior to 10 / 11 PM) on weeknights, given that other airbnb housemates may have earlier schedules. I tended to struggle with this given my night owl habits.
I recommend this home for your next stay! Ruth's love, kindness, and hospitality will make this a "home away from home" for you.
Ruth was accommodating beyond expectation. Access to the kitchen and breakfast items was generous, and getting to know others stopping over at Ruth's was a real treat. Ruth's home is located in a quiet neighborhood with convenient access to almost everything.
This was my first airbnb rental. Ruth's home was very nice, clean, and safe. I met
a grad student from Brazil, also a gentleman from China. Ruth was helpful, with information about the area, and provided me with maps. I enjoyed meeeting Ruth , her son and her dog. It was a pleasant and peaceful experience.
Ruth was the most hospitable host and it was an absolute joy staying with her and her family. The room was comfortable and cozy with plenty of natural lighting and an overhead ceiling fan. Ruth's lovely house is super close to a shopping center which made it very convenient to get the things I needed for my trip. Ruth is a very kind and caring woman who is a delight to get to know; my stay in Chapel Hill could not have been better! Thanks Ruth!
