The space

We are a family who hosted English language students people doing internships and people just traveling around Ireland to see the sights for the last 12 years.

Your room is a very comfortable double room (Size: 14*12ft ). In your room you will find a mirror, hair-dryer and wardrobe. You will have access to a shared bathroom during your stay.

We live 5 minutes from the train station on the North side of Dublin. It takes 10 minutes to get to the City Centre.

It takes 10 minutes in a taxi from the Airport and we can arrange a pick up.
We have the internet and cable tv. The rooms are very clean and well kept.

We often host two- three people at a time, with some of them coming back to stay with us again.

Our home has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere about it. We ofen have our students come back and stay again.

Dublin has a vibrant nightlife and is reputedly one of Europe's most youthful cities, with an estimate of 50% of citizens being younger than 25. There are many places to eat an drink in the City Centre that we can recommend.

Our home is comfortable and welcoming and we'd love to have you stay with us.

If we fancy a spot of history there's Clontarf Castle a walk away and the beautiful Malahide Castle a bus journey.

Other things to note

You can pick up a 72 travel card from the Airport. I believe it's the cheapest way to get around the city

I loved the welcoming atmosphere and that the owners were very available for help and answering questions for me and my daughter. We are from another country so we needed help in lots of ways finding our way around, etc. I also loved their two family dogs. I am a dog lover myself and enjoyed having them around. I highly recommend Debbie's place to anyone traveling to Dublin.

Debbie and John are really, really down-to-earth people - super warm and welcoming. The room was fairly large with a duvet cover and comfortable bed. At first glance I thought the bed would be too soft (I'm a weird one who prefers extremely hard beds, so it is sometimes difficult to please me). But I was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable the bed was. I came in late every night and no one minded - I was as quiet as possible. The best shower is downstairs from the bedroom, but worth it. There was plenty of space in the closet for hanging clothes. There was a big chair, which I used to hold one of my luggages, and bed side lights. The room was plenty warm. Breakfast was lovely: fresh orange or apple juice, several types of cereal/granola, bread/bagels, coffee/ tea. The travel into the center consisted of an eight-minute walk to the train, a 20-minute ride on the train, and you are in the center. Can't remember what the train cost, but it was not much at all. Debbie was very attentive, even when she had to work; she emailed several times to make sure I was ok. I should also mention that there isn't a bus to their house. You will take a taxi and that cost about 20 pounds. Thanks Debbie and John for a lovely place to stay.

We had a great stay at Debbie's, who is really friendly and supported us with good information throughout our 3 days ... even dropped us off at a particular nearby bus stop we needed. The house is located in a very nice & quiet residential area ... while the station is only 5 min walk away and trains get you into Dublin in 15 min ... or in about the same time to recommended Howth, outside Dublin... The house is very clean with two bathrooms and a kitchen where we had our breakfasts and were able to use the fridge ... and two nice & well behaved dogs that sometimes gave us company ;-) We would like to recommend Debbie's house to anyone who is looking for a nice comfortable base to explore Dublin, and does not need to stay next to pubs&restaurants in the city centre. Thanks Debbie!

The rooms in this house are kept very well and have everything you need to live comfortably, but John and Debbie really go the extra mile (kilometer?) to make sure their guests are very happy. They put on a good breakfast every morning (especially if you like several varieties of granola and a certain hazelnut spread) and were happy to help out in giving advice or logistical information--the city center is very easily accessible from the train station which is about a six minute walk and then ten-fifteen minute ride. Debbie was kind and brave enough to invite me to come down for a social evening on the back porch, as well as to give me advice, and a ride, before crossing by ferry to Wales. John was nice enough to let me overhear him play and sing, which was one of few things I have ever found intimidatingly impressive and relaxing at the same time. I was so glad I got to know John and Debbie, as well as some of their family coming through as guests. I will miss them for a long time. I will also miss their two dogs and cat for a slightly-less-long time. Big thanks to them for helping me to feel at home in your home. Would recommend them to anyone and everyone.

John and Debbie were lovely hosts. One thing we wish we would have known prior to arrival was that there were no locks on the doors and no way to lock up valuables when we left for the day. They rent out multiple rooms at once, and overall it felt like a nicer hostel with private rooms. It was very clean and John and Debbie were very accommodating.

Response from Debbie:
Hi Jenny, Thanks very much for your review. It means a lot to get feedback both positive and otherwise. We don't have locks on any of the doors because this is our home and not a hotel or a hostel. We trust our guests and in the 12 years we have hosted we have never had anything stolen from our home. It may have made you feel a little better if you had mentioned you were feeling uncomfortable about the security of your belongings. I do have a small safe we never use, but you could have availed of it. It was no problem accommodating you for the extra night at short notice. I was happy to change your booking for you. I just checked (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps for times from the airport and it's showing 17 minutes and to the city it's saying 20 minutes to Tara Street from door to door. I'll update the travel time to the city. Have a great time in Dublin it was lovely to meet you both. Kind regards, Debbie

This was a really great stay. Friendly and helpful couple. The only bummer was when the train line was suddenly shut down for the long weekend (probably not a common occurrence but perhaps something to investigate because it does affect the ease of getting into the city which is otherwise very handy. Highly recommend
