The Space

This is a unique place since it is a safe non-allergen, non-scented, green build place.
A lovely clean private room with bath is available in our spacious Eco-Luxury home in a safe and fun neighborhood.

This home is nestled in a quiet neighborhood between Hawthorne Boulevard, Belmont Street, MT Tabor Park, and all the action Portland has to offer. My home is a new all-green construction (Earth Advantage) with hardwood floors and wool carpets without chemicals. It also has many clean air quality features for those with allergies, sensitivities to chemicals, or those wish to be in a clean and healthy place.

This stay has the benefits of hotel due to the size (3,000 sq feet) and standards of this home as well as the personalized benefits of a Bed and Breakfast type stay. You will not feel that you are imposing since this house was designed for the comfort of guests as well as ourselves. We are often told how lovely and quiet the house is due to great soundproofing.

Your room gets lots of morning light but don't worry there are also blinds to pretend that morning is not happening until later. Bit of a view of Mt Tabor.

This is a dedicated guest room with a Queen size bed, comfortable bed and bedding, side tables, full spectrum lights, desk, bureau and a roomy closet. The carpet is all wool without any chemicals. No VOC paint and finishes.

Your Bathroom has a separate powder room. Nice glass tile work, large vanity, and bathtub/shower.

We have a social household and neighborhood that you can join in with or not. The house is large enough to have solitude or social depending on your choice. In the past, guests join in on dinners, puzzle solving, chicken feeding, board games, tea time or chatting; but privacy is respected as well.

Sunny and Private Yoga/dance/art studio space might be available for your use.

Theater room with surround sound, flat screen, streaming netflix, blu-ray and italian reclining couch

High speed wi-fi and hardwired lines in every room.

Free domestic long distance phone calls.

True gourmet kitchen with gas & induction ranges, 2 ovens, big granite island, filtered water, limitless supply of ice, waffle maker, rice cooker, dishwasher, and cooled wine pantry.

Outdoor room to backyard and gardens- We have lawn games.

Big front porch with comfy furniture on bike route- The only traffic we have are bikes and dog walkers.

Laundry Room available for fee for those who do not have dander on their clothes.

Central Vac for super allergy-free environment.

Instant natural gas Fireplace

Air Conditioning in Summer / Well-insulated cozy house in Winter

Plenty of Parking and close to many bus lines.

The garage is filled with bikes. (of course!) Borrow the tandem ($25/day) to ride with a friend to Movie Madness or Slappy Cakes or the Bagdad Theater or Powells Books or... oh, you get the point!

There are travel books and lots of maps on Portland and Oregon.

Feeling over-whelmed by all the choices of things to do? Have a cup of tea and meditate with the fish. However you will first need to choose between 50 types of tea! Oh, the stress of it all!

Chickens in the chicken run. (This is Portland after all!) Feel free to say hi to Gals when you gather eggs for breakfast. Roll Call: Star, Midnight, Chicken and Giggles. Yes, Giggles looks like a turkey or a buzzard but she is truly a chicken, so don't hurt her feelings.

Self-Serve Continental Breakfast supplied of local ingredients for tea, toast, cereal, yoghurt, milk, rice dream, juice, fruit, oatmeal, and eggs. Often we will have special surprise treats available as well.

We are in one of the most walkable and bikable neighborhoods in the United States. This friendly and safe location is an easy walk to the hippest spots in town- theaters, cafes, food carts, pubs, parks, forest, playground, music venues, restaurants, museums, charming shops, stores, ice cream, bakeries, clubs, yoga/dance studios, groceries, too many to list. Near 6 bus routes, bike routes and flex car which can take you downtown or other neighborhoods in minutes. Plenty of parking on and off of street. However still quiet with the sounds of birdsong and wind in the trees.

Downtown is very easily bikable and busable or a 10 minute drive but remember the Eastside is where is it usually happens!

Easy drive to Mt Hood, Hood River, and the Coast. (The answer is always "About an hour!")

Nola is an enthusiastic resource of all things Portland. Just email your questions. She is available during your stay- just text her any questions.

No pets, no smoking, or scents please.

If you are an especially sensitive or allergic person for an additional fee we have a service called Safe Stay. We can guarantee that all your linens and towels are organic with low impact dyes. We supply you with completely non-chemical bath products, hair products, and such. All food offered will be organic from confirmed sources. We can prepare for your visit with special consideration to your needs to make sure that you are in the healthiest environment possible. Just ask tell us your situation and we will make a plan for your stay.

Dear Travelers,

It is so much fun watching Portlandia make fun of our beautiful city Portland, as well as its residents. I could say the same about how the show Father Ted made folks really know Ireland- the good, the bad, and the ridiculous.

Well, it is our turn now, and what a great time to live here. There is a Food Renaissance here that is complemented by Art, Tech, Learning, Nature, Sustainability, and some of the friendliest people anywhere.

I am a bit of a stereotype of Portland since I have a business in green rentals as well as being an extremely social, nerdy, outdoors loving, book reading person. And I adore living in Portland and knowing at least a little bit about everything that is going on. What do you want to do?

I have a bunch of Irish influence which makes me a social story-teller who loves guests. I enjoy hosting folks as well as traveling. I have spent time living in Argentina, Mexico, France, and Hawaii. I live in Ireland as well as in the States.

Sharing my home and other properties is my calling. I designed the Taylor house be lovely, healthy, green, and efficient- it's the Sustainable Economist in me. The other properties that I list I have remodeled to be fun and healthy as well. The house in Ireland is on my ancestor's land and I grew up going to this house. I have spent the last two years doing a major remodel and it looks great. La Casita was where I taught Argentine Tango for many years and is quite charming. I also have a house that I rent full time that was featured on the GreenRenter site and is an offical G-Rated environmental home.

A key thing about what I offer as a host is what I am looking for as a guest. I can't stand chain hotels. They can be quite luxurious but they always come across as impersonal. Give me a fun walkable neighborhood that real people live, work and play- and That is where I wish to stay. My properties are unique luxurious spaces that I created for myself, my family and my community that I can also share with you.

One last thing, these are my personal properties so there are no surprises about folks who are subletting through Airbnb. I have a great team (Talia and Anastasia ) who take care of things when I am away, but you can always contact me directly through email with any concerns or questions.

I am a social person so hosting comes naturally to me and I have often had folks staying with me even before AirBnB. Friends stay with me or just toss relations and friends my way to take in. Now thanks to the Share-economy so many things are possible that are community building, sustainable, and amazing.

There are many changes happening with short term rentals and the City of Portland. I am pleased that Portland is seeking a balance between the share-economy and our amazing communities.
