The Space

A lovely clean private room with bath is available in our spacious Eco-Luxury home in a safe and fun neighborhood.

This home is nestled in a quiet neighborhood between Hawthorne Boulevard, Belmont Street, MT Tabor Park, and all the action Portland has to offer. My home is a new all-green construction (Earth Advantage) with hardwood floors and wool carpets without chemicals. It also has many clean air quality features for those with allergies, sensitivities to chemicals, or those wish to be in a clean and healthy place.

This stay has the benefits of hotel due to the size (3,000 sq feet) and standards of this home as well as the personalized benefits of a Bed and Breakfast type stay. You will not feel that you are imposing since this house was designed for the comfort of guests as well as ourselves. We are often told how lovely and quiet the house is due to great soundproofing.

Your room gets lots of morning light but don't worry there are also blinds to pretend that morning is not happening until later. Bit of a view of Mt Tabor.

This is a dedicated guest room with a Queen size bed, comfortable bed and bedding, side tables, full spectrum lights, desk, bureau and a roomy closet. The carpet is all wool without any chemicals. No VOC paint and finishes.

Your Bathroom has a separate powder room. Nice glass tile work, large vanity, and separate powder room.

Often , we only have one other guest but we have a social household and neighborhood that you can join in with or not. The house is large enough to have solitude or social depending on your choice. There are travel books and lots of maps on Portland and Oregon.

Feeling over-whelmed by all the choices of things to do? Have a cup of tea and meditate with the fish. However you will first need to choose between 50 types of tea! Oh, the stress of it all!

Chickens in the chicken run. (This is Portland after all!) Feel free to say hi to Gals when you gather eggs for breakfast. Roll Call: Star, Midnight, Chicken and Giggles. Yes, Giggles looks like a turkey or a buzzard but she is truly a chicken, so don't hurt her feelings.

Near 6 bus routes, bike routes and flex car which can take you downtown or other neighborhoods in minutes. Plenty of parking on and off of street. However still quiet with the sounds of birdsong and wind in the trees.

Downtown is very easily bikable and busable or a 10 minute drive but remember the Eastside is where is it usually happens!

Easy drive to Mt Hood, Hood River, and the Coast. (The answer is always "About an hour!")

  • We stayed at Nola's house for one week in early April. Our stay was one of our best AirBnb experiences. First, her house is very clean and comfortable. The bedroom had a comfy bed, nice closet space, and even a little desk to work from. The wifi in the house is stable and fast, so you will have no problems placing calls or checking email. The house is nicely soundproofed, and there is even a white noise machine in the bedroom to ensure a great night's rest. The kitchen had everything we needed, and we really appreciated having some yogurt and cereal on hand for a quick bite in the morning! The house is situated only a few blocks from some of the best food and coffee shops in the city.

Aside from the home's amenities, Nola and her daughter were fabulous hosts. They made us feel right at home, and were kind enough to show us some of the best local eateries in town. They are very well-traveled and interesting people, and we had a great time hanging out with them in their backyard. Nola also introduced us to some of her friends from the neighborhood, and really made us feel part of her community during our stay. It was also fun getting to know their chickens too, and helping to gather their fresh eggs from the coop.

Overall, I would highly recommend a stay at Nola's place, and we cannot wait to visit Portland again!

  • Exactly as advertised, but better. Nola's home is warm with laughter and kindness. It was the perfect place for us to come back to each night after days full of challenging family business issues. We were able to relax and unwind in great comfort

Very important, this home is as allergen free as possible. A gem.

  • My stay with Nola was ideal. Beautiful home and friendly atmosphere. I will be back my next trip to town.

    March 2014
  • Everything Nola states in her profile is totally accurate! She deserves **12 stars** out of 5 on everything!! :)

First of all, it is the cleanest place you'll EVER stay. And for those with any allergies of any kind (or for folks like me who don't have any allergies or food sensitivities), her incredibly lovely home is total Nirvana.

Many hosts "claim" to know a lot about Portland, but Nola really DOES know an incredible amount! She also has a wonderful perspective on the intersection of economic and civic/planning issues. You can ask or talk to her about anything!

Again, Nola's house is PERFECTLY clean, stunningly beautiful (and large!), in absolutely perfect condition in every way (which many AirBnB places are not--look at the fine details such as window frames, paint jobs, etc), and in a phenomenal location in upper Belmont, just a few short blocks from both an amazing food cart pod AND the world's largest video store! :) Plus, with the chickens running freely in the back yard and all the wonderful environmental touches, her place and neighborhood give you such an ideal "Portland" feel!!

I would stay here ANY chance I had--perfect ratings for the house, the wonderful owner, the urban (yet still charming and quiet) neighborhood, and the great feeling it gives you for staying in the unbelievably amazing city that Portland is. :)

  • Nola's Eco-Pad is warm, clean and very convenient to the 15 and 14 bus lines.

Nola is an EXCELLENT host and made me feel at home. I'd stay here again and again!

    February 2014
  • I loved staying at Nola's. The house is beautiful and the room was so inviting and comfortable. It has the charm of an old house, yet is very new, clean and spacious. Nola is a wonderful host, full of information when needed. I loved my breakfast of local bread, marianberry jam, local yoghurt and Irish tea. It was a perfect location for my purpose. I love the walkable neighborhoods of SE Portland.

  • My girlfriend and I really enjoyed meeting Nola! She is a very gracious and helpful hostess. The house is beautiful and the bedroom and bathroom are fantastic. The location is excellent, quiet and convenient. I would definitely stay here again!

  • Wonderful host and house! :)

    November 2013
  • This is a beautiful home in a ideal location in the Hawthorne neighborhood. I found Nola & her daughter to be warm and welcoming--full of lively insights about Portland.

    October 2013
  • If I mention all the great things about Nola and her beautiful home, then others would be enticed to stay there and it might not be available next time I visit Portland!

Really, my brief 3 day stay was most welcoming and respectful, her home is as described, "eco-luxury" is an understatement, it's that clean, comfortable and modern "Portland Bungalow" done right, she has a real talent.

And......I won't reveal, the resident "guests" which are a charming surprise! I do hope it's available next visit, thanks Nola and Raven.

About
Dear Travelers, It is so much fun watching Portlandia make fun of our beautiful city Portland, as well as its residents. I could say the same about Father Ted and Ireland. I am a bit of a stereotype of Portland since I have a business in green rentals as well as being an extremely social, nerdy, outdoors loving, book reading person. I have a bunch of Irish influence which makes me a social story-teller who loves guests. I enjoy hosting folks as well as traveling. I have spent time living in Argentina, France, and Hawaii. I live in Ireland as well as in the States. Sharing my home and other properties is lots of fun. I designed the Taylor house be lovely, healthy, green, and efficient- it's the Sustainable Economist in me. The other properties that I list I have remodeled to be fun and healthy as well. The house in Ireland is on my ancestor's land and I grew up going to this house. I have spent the last two years doing a major remodel and it looks great. La Casita was where I taught Argentine Tango for many years and is quite charming. I also have a house that I rent full time that was featured on the GreenRenter site and is an offical G-Rated environmental home. A key thing about what I offer as a host is what I am looking for as a guest. I can't stand chain hotels. They can be quite luxurious but they always come across as impersonal. Give me a fun walkable neighborhood that real people live, work and play- and That is where I wish to stay. My properties are unique luxurious spaces that I created for myself, my family and my community that I can also share with you. One last thing, these are my personal properties so there are no surprises about folks who are subletting through Airbnb. I have a great team (Talia, Anastasia and Mike) who take care of things when I am away, but you can always contact me through email with any concerns or questions. I am a social person so hosting comes naturally to me and I have often had folks staying with me even before AirBnB. Friends stay with me or just toss relations and friends my way to take in. Thanks Airbnb for their great forum and community. On last thing, my daughter and I have been experimenting with waffle recipes and we need Waffle taste testers. Cheers, Nuala
