Wabi Sabi House is nestled in the most sought after location in the Ojai Valley, the fabled East End, where Krishnamurti himself used to take his daily constitutional.
The East of Ojai, where the Chumash thrived for 10,000 years, is the part of Ojai that Aldus Huxley, Jackson Pollock, and John Lennon have come to rest while in California. The large parcels of land, and ample privacy still allow for a lone bike ride along a lush, breathtaking road, undisturbed.
Drenched in sunlight and twenty minutes from the beach, this Japanese style retreat sits at the base of Horn Canyon, with a huge private yard filled with bamboo, succulents, a fire pit and outdoor dining. It is situated between two preparatory schools, The Thacher school, and The Ojai Valley School, The Krishnamurti Library, and what was once Beatrice Woods' home and studio.
Just up the trail which winds past the house and up over the "Pink Moment" bluffs, resplendent with local flora and fauna, crystal swimming holes, and a natural climbing wall, is a Pilates studio offering world class massage in an outdoor setting.
Natural sage, aloe, and aromatic herbs are right outside your front door, and down the road is an organic Pizza Parlor nestled amongst orange trees, oaks, and sweeping vistas. The good news is, you are still 1 hour and 15 minutes from Los Angeles and a short bike ride from town.
The cottage has a detached Japanese style bath house with a restored clawfoot tub, and birch paneling. It is ideal for a private soak after a long hike...
Views from the house include the Ojai mountain range on all sides, replete with hawks flying overhead. It is perfect for weekends or for the week to work in nature, near organic cuisine, Whole Foods style markets, world class spas, yoga, hiking, biking, horseback riding, and of course..surfing! This is the perfect place to re-charge all of your senses...enjoy!
magical place ! one day away and already longing to come back : )
I stayed at the Wabi Sabi house for one night in February. This is a great location just outside Ojai. This is a lovely remote cottage/cabin in a very peaceful spot ideal for some downtime and a chance to relax!
Lovely little space tucked away past the orange groves in Ojai. The place is cozily small, had several niceties (including a bottle of wine and water, thanks Caitlin!) and is dog-friendly. Would definitely come back!
My boyfriend and I had a delightful visit to the Wabi Sabi house in Ojai---thank you Caitlin, for making it so pleasant and easy! The area is so peaceful and quiet.... We didn't quite put it together that the entire bathroom is detached from the bedroom-house, but it added to the spirit of fun and made for a more adventurous "camping"-like stay. What a gorgeous place!
Very cute place in a beautiful part of Ojai. Although Caitlin and I never met, the place was all set up and ready to go (wine and water included!).
We had a wonderful stay at the small and cozy Wabi Sabi house. We needed retreat not too far from where we live, and it was perfect. We went on wonderful hikes right up the road, brought firewood and made fires. I want to go back again and stay longer next time. I read other's comments about the small water heater for the bath tub and this is true, i had a nice bath but it was not hot. We slept great in the comfy bed, and the heater kept the place warm. Only downside i would note is that I checked in with Caitlin beforehand as air b n b tells you to and she didn't write back, so the only time i had contact with her was about payment. I asked if there were things we should bring, and it would have been nice to either have a more complete list of what is at the house in her welcome email, or to hear something. We live close so we drove home once and got our can opener, and more condiments since we were cooking, and the only things there were a bit of olive oil and salt and pepper. We brought a whole bunch of filtered water with us, but it would be good to know if it's ok to cook with the sink water etc. We appreciated the bottle of wine and bottle of mineral water. Overall, loved the experience and we want to do it again soon.
Great little place for a weekend get away. Quiet, clean and cozy.
I'd recommend the hike up to rose valley falls.
We really liked the Wabi Sabi cottage. It was exactly as advertised. The tub in the external room was very nice and restful. We didn't meet the owner or caretaker in person, which was fine with us. *t felt like we had a good amount privacy on the property. All went smoothly and we'd recommend that place.
It can be a little hard to find the house as our GPS wasn't completely accurate about where to go and the street signs are not great. Make sure you know what the house looks like and try to not get there after dark!
What a great place, loved it! I only spent a night but the atmosphere was everything I dreamt of and it felt safe too. Loved having the bath tub outside in another cabin. Watching the stars amidst the trees and waking to a wonderful Ojai morning. Looking forward to returning!
The Wabi Sabi house is soooo lovely. Very simple, clean, quiet -- everything you could possibly need or want. Loved the aesthetic. Caitlin and her family are artists and it shows. The place was very tastefully decorated, kind of funky, but great touches -- candles, outdoor fireplace, light-reflecting prism chandeliers, white towels. I had a beautiful week there. It's in a great location too. Very close to town, yet right on the edge of open space. Great hikes nearby. The bathhouse is really beautiful. It was kind of a drag to have to go out at night, but the claw bath was fantastic. It's completely private and yet, as a woman alone, it was completely safe. I got a lot of work done on the book I am writing. My dream would be to come back for a week every year! Oh yea, and I brought my pooch, Teddy. And he loved it too!
