Wabi Sabi House is nestled in the most sought after location in the Ojai Valley, the fabled East End, where Krishnamurti himself used to take his daily constitutional.
The East of Ojai, where the Chumash thrived for 10,000 years, is the part of Ojai that Aldus Huxley, Jackson Pollock, and John Lennon have come to rest while in California. The large parcels of land, and ample privacy still allow for a lone bike ride along a lush, breathtaking road, undisturbed.
Drenched in sunlight and twenty minutes from the beach, this Japanese style retreat sits at the base of Horn Canyon, with a huge private yard filled with bamboo, succulents, a fire pit and outdoor dining. It is situated between two preparatory schools, The Thacher school, and The Ojai Valley School, The Krishnamurti Library, and what was once Beatrice Woods' home and studio.
Just up the trail which winds past the house and up over the "Pink Moment" bluffs, resplendent with local flora and fauna, crystal swimming holes, and a natural climbing wall, is a Pilates studio offering world class massage in an outdoor setting.
Natural sage, aloe, and aromatic herbs are right outside your front door, and down the road is an organic Pizza Parlor nestled amongst orange trees, oaks, and sweeping vistas. The good news is, you are still 1 hour and 15 minutes from Los Angeles and a short bike ride from town.
The cottage has a detached Japanese style bath house with a restored clawfoot tub, and birch paneling. It is ideal for a private soak after a long hike...
Views from the house include the Ojai mountain range on all sides, replete with hawks flying overhead. It is perfect for weekends or for the week to work in nature, near organic cuisine, Whole Foods style markets, world class spas, yoga, hiking, biking, horseback riding, and of course..surfing! This is the perfect place to re-charge all of your senses...enjoy!
Spending time at the Wabi Sabi House was a wonderful way to experience the Ojai Valley. It's an exquisite hide-a-way with rustic charm with all the comforts of home. The separation between the living area and bathroom is wonderful, the tub was a great place to relax as well. The property gives you an experience of the wilderness, the parking is convenient, and it was quiet and grounding.
My husband and I stayed here on our way up to Big Sur from San Diego. We got in late at night and had to leave early in the morning so we didn't get to spend too much time here. Overall we had a really good experience, everything was neat and clean and in a lovely setting. I wish we could have stayed longer and actually got to check out Ojai a little more but if we come back we will definitely be staying here!
Staying at Caitlin's magical cabin was delightful! The space is gorgeous inside and out. Cute little seating areas outside for eating and enjoying the fire. Perfect amount of space inside for 2 or 3 people to fit comfortably and not feel on top of each other. And the detached bath house was immaculate and I loved the super modern/rustic touches inside. My friend and I stayed here during the lunar eclipse and there was a beautiful lacrosse field at the start of the hiking trail behind the house. It was a perfect place to watch the sunset and the eclipse. I recommend this cabin to anyone who appreciates nature and the quiet vibe of Ojai. Excited to come back!
A perfect visit to Ojai in Caitlin's charming cabin. The hiking trails were right down the street, we came back smelling of sage and orange blossoms. We will definitely be back for a longer stay.
Perfect for a restful weekend away! A beautiful setting; we loved the convenience to hiking, but also the fact that it was so close to town. I had such a restful stay and would reserve it again in a heartbeat. The cabin had such a sweet character. It was homey and inviting, with just the right amount of quirk. The bed was comfy, the bath water was nice and hot, and we were welcomed with a nice bottle of wine. I had a few questions upon arrival and Caitlin answered right away. She was fantastic - thanks Caitlin!
My husband and I had a lovely time in this little cabin. It is a beautiful area. In Spring (March) the orange blossom was out all around the valley and the air smelled amazing. The oranges we bought in town were the best we have ever tasted. The cabin is quite a way from the town but that didn't bother us at all, just worth noting.
We ate out one evening but the others we just bought fresh vegetables from the excellent supermarkets and made salad - the hotplates and microwave were plenty for us to heat up a few things, but you couldn't cook a gourmet meal.
Comfy bed, private outdoors area, hiking straight from the cabin etc - it was all very peaceful and relaxing.
we had a great stay at the wabi sabi house. it was just lovely. we especially loved the outdoor fireplace which we used every night. caitlin's dad was really nice and brought us everything we needed. the hike behind the cabin up into the mountains was amazing- and we would definitely stay there again.
My girlfriend and I found the place to be quite charming. We enjoyed having a nice hike within walking distance of the cabin. We had a couple things we thought could be better: email communication could have been a bit more timely. The cabin seemed like it needed just a little more tlc (i.e. Cobwebs around the ceiling, etc.) other than that we would recommend this cabin for anyone looking for a great option to escape town for a weekend and recharge.
Staying at the Wabi Sabi House just added the extra charm to this beautiful small town. It was not a far distance from downtown, and it was very clean and quaint. We thoroughly enjoyed the quiet neighborhood and serenity. Never met with Caitlin nor spoke to her, but big thanks for the great stay!
magical place ! one day away and already longing to come back : )
