This house reflects the lives of my grandparents. My grandfather was a master mariner by profession. He sailed in the American Merchant Marine from the 1920s to the 1940s, circumnavigating the globe more than 25 times. His wartime service was as captain of the Liberty ship, SS John Fiske, whose identifying plaque from the ship’s bridge is on the eastern exterior wall next to the steering wheel. When they retired in the 1970s, my grandparents chose this location so that he and my mother could have a quiet life in the woods, but at the same time could see the horizon and part of the sea.
The tree-top setting is just a half-mile from the town of Inverness with its store, post office, café, and restaurants; and a ten-minute drive from the restaurants, shops and weekend Farmers’ Market of Point Reyes Station. Beaches, hiking trails and the Point Reyes National Seashore are within walking distance or a short car ride, and the south-facing deck is sunny and warm all day. But don't take our word for it--read what the New York Times had to say about Salt Water, the local restaurant, and the delights of the wider area. '36 hours in Marin County', 27 Jan. 2013.
We hope that you enjoy our house, enter into its spirit enjoying the views of Tomales Bay, the hills, woods and beaches of western Marin and Elephant Mountain bathed in the ever- changing light of the Point Reyes Peninsula, a very special ‘Island in Time’.

We had a wonderful time at this quiet, cozy cabin. It is well appointed and has lovely views. The kitchen is well-equipped with good knives, spices and cooking utensils. Justinian was very good & courteous about communicating with us prior to our visit.
We really enjoyed our stay at Captain's Cabin! The view was a joy to behold each time we stepped onto the deck. We were a little surprised by the one-way narrow windy road leading up to the house but it made for a nice secluded retreat. There were other homes around yet everything seemed very quiet. The rental itself was fully and comfortably furnished - kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms, everything. We brought a few supplies but didn't really need them. We hiked to Abbott's Lagoon on a beautiful sunny, warm day over Valentine's weekend. It is a lovely trail with the bluest of waters meeting us. Thank you, Justinian!
This cabin was great. We had such a lovely time there. Wish I could stay longer.
Justinian was extremely prompt and courteous. worked out great. same day transaction. clear instructions, clean house and what i expected. great location and good for family of 4 and no more. kept dogs outside and it was kind that he agreed that it wasn't a problem to have them outside.
The place was cozy, clean and comfortable and spacious enough for a group to stay. Kitchen and living room were good to mingle along but the way to the place is a bit narrow so should be careful especially when it rains. Overall, such a great place to stay and awesome location close to oyster farms. I would recommend this place.
We have just spent 2 fabulous weeks in Captain's Cabin in Inverness and are reluctantly having to fly home. The accommodations were very comfortable and private with a gorgeous view of Tomales Bay. The sunrises were spectacular! The house was ideally located to explore the many wonderful trails in the Point Reyes Seashore State Park. The kitchen was well equipped with everything needed to prepare our meals, including a packed herb drawer. There is wonderful family history in this home and Justininian, our host, was extremely hospitable and gracious. We recommend it highly and hope to return.
Everything was just as described. I felt the furniture and decor was very fitting for the place. In fact it was nicer than other reviews led me to believe. The deck is large and so was the living room. It's not so far from couple nice restaurants just down the hill. Enjoy the entire experience from beginning to end! Only wish we could've stayed longer.

I am a wine broker living in San Francisco. This house has been in our family for my entire life, and I have grown up swimming in the bay, hiking the hills and surfing the oceans around this beautiful part of California.
