The host of Kavvayi Homestay is a Naval Veteran. Distance from Payyanur railway station is 1 km and from the town is 1.5 km. Kavvayi Backwaters is at 3 km and the nearby secluded beaches are at 4 to 12 kms distances. Kayaking, cruising in govt ferry, cruising in Houseboat, Trekking, Hill stations, Theyyam, Kalaripayattu, Ayurveda, Yoga, Bell metal Artisans, Clay pot Artisans, Village life experiences are the main attraction of Payyanur and our Homestay.

The space
Payyanur is one of the ancient civilised places in North Kerala and claims a glorious heritage. The archeological remaining excavated from Payyanur and near by places proves the existence of a civilised society in this area centuries ago. The famous travelers, who visited here, have described about this area in high words. Ibn Bathutha visited Ezhimala in AD 1342 and wrote about the big Sea port and the big Chinese ships anchored here. In AD 1273 Abul Fida and in AD 1293 the world famous traveler Marco Polo and in 15th Century the Italian traveler Nicholo kondi also visited this place and had given a very good impression about Ezhimala port which was called by the name " Heli". The Portuguese Scholar and traveler Barbosa who made lot of researches and studies on Kerala and it's people had described a lot about this place. In the past, the city centre was Kachil Pattanam ( present 'Kavvayi') was the main town because of the waterways through Kavvayi River and it's big Sea port. It was the administrative as well as the business centre that time. According to historians ships from China and other countries used to visit this port and anchored in the near by River 'Changoorichal'. Kavvayi retained it's position even during the rule of British East India Company. They established the first Magistrate court and Registrar's Office in Kavvayi !!

    I am a Naval Veteran born and brought up at Payyanur. After Indian Navy joined Merchant Navy as Maritime security officer to safe guard merchant vessels against Sea pirates. Currently at Payyanur in Inbound Tourism.
