About this listing
My treat and treasure, this riad has been growing and blooming for the past years, putting in by bits and pieces all my love and passion for local craft work and arts, flea markets, washed out colors, rituals and culinary delights, collecting objects and furniture, re-creating and renovating and putting everything together to create a unique spot, which allows an experience away from tourism and vacation “stress” only a few steps from local life, a refuge for me as well as for sharing, with friends and world travelers passing by, design lovers, creatives, foodies and adventurers – an oasis of space and chilling out in the middle of a mingeling local area in the ancient medina of Marrakech.
WHERE YOU CAN FIND US:
in love with the eastern part of the medina, which remains the most authentic quarter with little tourism and only few guest houses, this part of the marrakech made it the perfect spot to set up this shelter and to experience colorful street&food markets, sourrounded by the real buzzing local everyday life. only a 15-20min walk takes you to the main square DJMA EL FNAA, passing through the colorful labyrinth of the souks.
the total surface of about 280m2 offers patio with dip-in pool, living&dining room, open kitchen, 3 bedrooms of which each has its own bathroom&WC, then chill out balcony on 1st floor with view into the patio, the top floor being a big roof terrace for sun bathing and chimney corner for cozy bbqs or a bed under the stars set up in hot summer nights.
the space is listed only AIRBNB, which in its original purpose offers a platform of private spaces for rent. a lot of people tend to forget this, so here a small reminder, that LA MAISON is a private house and not a fully serviced RIAD or GUEST HOUSE. to make things more comfortable and easy for you though, LA MAISON is being partly serviced, a little bonus in the package ;). amina comes every day to make breakfast at whatever time you wish, sweeps around the main areas and supplies you with everything you need, just ask her whatever seems to be missing or to be replaced .... she does amazing home cooking on demand for little budget and great culinary delight, not to be missed ;)
bed sheets and towels are supplied as well as a generous breakfast. There is a hairdryer, 2 ipod-stations and a wireless internet connection for free use.
however, amina does not clean your room(s) and make the beds on a daily basis. if you wish her to change sheets or you require fresh towels, please kindly ask her in the morning and leave your door open (as a sign, that she is allowed to enter your private space).
a pick-up from the airport or local station can be organized. We are collaborating with SAMIR RAKTRANSPORT, our driver is reliable, always on time, speaks english and french and knows the exact location of the house. He will take you to the closest possible drop-off point, from you will be guided to LA MAISON. Charge is 250,- dirham for a one way airport shuttle.

HOUSE RULES - JUST A FEW THINGS......
Every day amina comes from 8.00 o'clock on to make breakfast. Just let her know, if you would like her to come earlier or later. To make communication easy, take 1 of the breakfast sheets filling it in according to your desires (using 1 sheet for all to make it easier for amina) and place it in the kitchen the night before.
She is the caring soul of this house and will help to make your stay more pleasant and comfortable. She takes care of breakfast, plants, sweeps through the house and checks, if you are well supplied. We kindly ask you to respect, that there is no allowance for self-service or access to private storage spaces, so please speak to amina after breakfast or in the evening, in case you need some stock-up on toilet paper or towels to be replaced. LA MAISON is a private house, not to be mistaken with a fully serviced RIAD or GUEST HOUSE, amina does not clean your room(s) on a daily basis. Throughout your stay your rooms will be your private space. if you wish to have your bed sheets changed or fresh towels, pls make arrangements with amina after breakfast and leave your door open during the day, which is a sign for her, that she has the right to access your private space.
Amina is a fantastic cook and can supply you with home made dinner if you wish. There are order sheets with options for dinner, either 3 course menu or smaller snacks. All dishes are for sharing, so kindly agree on your choices. Then hand over the sheet to amina and if you wish, just discuss with her the night before or in the morning after breakfast, then directly put the amount mentioned according to the price list into THE BOX OF HONESTY in the living room and write down in the little book your name, date and how much you put in. amina will spoil you with some unforgettable delights.
*THE FRIDGE & THE KITCHEN
There is a big fridge in the kitchen, which also serves to stock the items and food meant for providing your daily breakfast from our side. We count on you to kindly respect (specially when you are traveling with children), that those storages should please not be touched during the day, or if, and then kindly be replaced or payed for. However there is available space and you are welcome to store your own purchases in case of need.
The kitchen is generally amina's domain, so please check with her for cooking at lunch or dinnertime.
*WASHING MACHINE & PRIVATE STORAGE SPACE
The storage and laundry space is a private area, as well as all wardrobes and lockers not situated in your rooms. access is not allowed!! However, free washing service is supplied, just ask amina and give her the items you wish to be cleaned, she will take care of it.
*SUN BATHING & CHILLING ON THE ROOF TERRASSE
In Moroccan culture the roof terrace is a common place for drying laundry. All roof spaces are on various levels and can be seen in by the surrounding neighbors. We kindly ask you by respect for our local neighbors, their culture and religious beliefs to refrain from topless or nude sunbathing, as this represents an offense and insult and does result in unpleasant reactions and an undesirable disrespect for us and our guests in the neighborhood, which would be a shame. We have had complaints and would wish to respect our neighbors' ethic and culture by avoiding those incidents. We strongly count on your understanding.
*LOCAL GUESTS & SLEEPOVERS
bringing locals (moroccan girls or guys) for various purposes to guesthouses in morocco is strictly forbidden by law. we will risk penalties and pursuit by law and a lot of unpleasant problems, if our neighbors report those incidents. further it is important to refrain from those actions by respect for our neighbors, our reputation and the safety of all our future guests.
Drinking tap water is NOT recommended. it is not dangerous and locals drink it daily. by experience i would recommend to buy drinking water from the local shops or checking with amina, how much water she should supply. We charge 10 dirham per bottle. Showering and brushing your teeth, washing food or having a few ice-cubes in your drink is without any danger or harm.
*TOWELS & SUPPLIES
Fresh towels and toilet paper will be supplied only on your demand, no self service or access to the storage&supply closed, but please kindly check with the staff, to hand out whatever needs to be replaced after your daily breakfast or in the evening
* SOME GREEN THOUGHTS
Before leaving the house or going to sleep, please check, if all lights or other electric devices are turned off (as by experience in general lights in bathrooms, WC, roof terrace and rooms as well as the pool spot get easily forgotten)
*THE FIRE PLACE (S)
There are 2 chimneys in the house, which come to action mainly from December until February. Amina will come everyday at around 18.00 to light the chimney fire in the living room and candles around the house. If you need her to make fire in the morning or earlier in the evening, please let her know. We prefer due to prior experience, that you do not light the fire yourself for security reasons, but if you wish so, this will be at your own risk.
As everything is on a trust basis, extra guests apart from the number of guests booked during your stay as well as spontaneous "sleepovers", or dinner parties with locals or acquaintances not staying in LA MAISON, are not allowed! We count and trust in you respecting this request.
*BOTTLES & THE BOX OF HONESTY
Alcohol still remains a delicate subject and is basically not available in the medina by respect to the Islamic culture. The next supermarket is quite a ride out of town, so there are some supplies in the house, in case you have this craving feel of enjoying a glass of wine or beer with your delicious home cooked meal. We trust our guests, to put the money for every bottle of wine, beer or cava you take, into the little "BOX OF HONESTY" in the living room, writing down in the little book next to it your name, what bottle you took and how much money you put into the box. This is important for us to keep track:
-Cava white or brut/ 120,- dirham per bottle
-Red wine/rose/ 100,-dirham per bottle
-Beer/ 30,- dirham bottle (corona)
- Water/ 10,- dirham per bottle (sparkling or still)
Any kind of domestic animals are not allowed in the house (including cats, dogs, ...turtles, leguans, reptiles, snakes or any other species from the local market)

The house is yours. Enjoy your time!
Riad La Maison is a truly amazing place to stay in Marrakesh. The house is clean and light and the interior decor is fantastique. The small pool in the ground floor is an excellent way to cool off after a wander around the souks. It's location helped us see parts of Marrakesh we wouldn't otherwise have seen. The journey to Djemaa el fna is quiet in the morning and bustling and full of life and colour in the evening.
Amina, the housekeeper and cook, is a lovely person to have around and prepares incredible food. The food is one of the hidden delights of La Maison and every guest should eat here regularly. The breakfasts are a perfect start to the day.
Nicole is a great communicator and happy to help with any question and her list of places to visit and eat was like being guided by a friend.
Thank you Nicole for sharing your beautiful Riad with us, it helped to make this a holiday that we will remember forever.
Staying at nicole's air bnb in Marrakech was the best experience ever! Amina's presence was great and the house was spectacular; an oasis in the Medina! Nicole's design and decorating sense is a treat to observe first hand! We would go back in a split second!
This beautiful Riad really stood up for it's name. But more about the interior design later. The house is perfectly situated in the medina, a short walk to the souks and Place Jemma El Fna and also close to a main gate at the city walls. The house is a haven of peace and calm with an open roof terrace to enjoy; magical in the evenings to dine al fresco. The bedrooms are cosy and charming with bathrooms oozing with atmosphere. It's obvious that the owner Nicole is very talented with perfect taste in decor, a mix of the traditional and modern that she has blended seamlessly. We were travelling with our two small children and the house proved to be equipped for all our needs, a big plus. Our feeling is that we did not go on holiday to Marrakesh, we actually LIVED there for a week in every sense of the word. It's true, there are a lot of stairs and we would have liked to have had the kitchen all to ourselves but then again I am sure there are clients who appreciate the help from Amina, the house maid and excellent cook ( we will always remember the couscous she served for us on the terrace ).
Nicole's home is the most amazingly beautiful read in the heart of Marrakesh, but also so much more! Nicole goes above and beyond the norm to help you make the most of your time in Marrakesh. Her recommendations, tips and ongoing support from the moment you book, till after you leave, really ensure you make the most of your time. Add to that the delicious home cooking and hospitality of Amina, and you have one of the best Airbnb experiences we have ever had. We could not recommend more!
It was a pleasure dealing with Nicole and arriving at her beautiful Marrakesh riad. Pickup from the airport and transport to the riad was very smooth and we appreciated being shown how to get to the door from the gate of the medina.
As for the riad itself, it was as tasteful as the photographs suggest. Perfectly sized and arranged for a family or for a couple of couples it was great having the place to ourselves and felt like home, albeit a home with lots of beautiful things in it and an indoor plunge pool. The roof terrace is a lovely place to enjoy a glass of wine in the evening, and breakfast prepared by Amina was delicious, whether eaten on the roof or on the ground floor.
Far enough away from the main square to feel hidden, yet close enough to walk everywhere we loved the location (once we had found it again after our first excursion!).
We all loved Marrakech, loved Nicole's beautiful riad and would return like a shot.
A lovely smallish riad furnished part traditional and part modern industrial style. We had mixed feelings about the result, probably refreshing if you have had an overload of traditional. Nicole was very good communicating with us, really appreciated! We liked the terrace and had some lovely lunches there, and it was easy to just walk out and buy food and oranges, mountains of oranges! The kitchen is small but extremely well equipped. The wifi worked well which was very useful for us and one of the reasons we picked this riad. Amina, the caretaker, was very nice, and the breakfasts she made for us were delicious. We now put cumin on our fried eggs :)
La Maison is an oasis. Amina (the caretaker) took care of all of our needs -- she is very low key and discreet. Her breakfasts are delicious and she was so accommodating with our varying morning tour times/commitments--she also helped arrange drivers, if needed. She cooked a wonderful dinner our last night and it was better than some top restaurants we had enjoyed.
We were not sure of the riad location at first (a 10-15 minute walk to the Jamaa el Fna Square) but the walk is easy, interesting and, once you have had your fill of the Square's craziness, the tranquility and beauty of La Maison is a welcome reprieve.
Nicole was most helpful with details, directions and suggestions for an truly incredible Marrakech experience.
