My treat and treasure, this riad has been growing and blooming for the past 4 years, putting in by bits and pieces all my love and passion for local craft work and arts, flea markets, washed out colors, rituals and culinary delights, collecting objects and furniture, re-creating and renovating and putting everything together to create a unique spot, which allows an experience away from tourism and vacation “stress” only a few steps from local life, a refuge for me as well as for sharing, with friends and world travelers passing by, design lovers, creatives, foodies and adventurers – an oasis of space and chilling out in the middle of a mingeling local area in the ancient medina of Marrakech.
WHERE YOU CAN FIND US:
in love with the eastern part of the medina, which remains the most authentic quarter with little tourism and only few guest houses, this part of marrakech made it the perfect spot to set up this shelter and to experience colorful street&food markets, sourrounded by the real buzzing local everyday life. only a 15-20min walk takes you to the main square DJMA EL FNAA, passing through the colorful labyrinth of the souks.
the total surface of about 280m2 offers patio with dip-in pool, living&dining room, open kitchen, 3 bedrooms of which each has its own bathroom&WC, then chill out balcony on 1st floor with view into the patio, the top floor being a big roof terrace for sun bathing and chimney corner for cozy bbqs or a bed under the stars set up in hot summer nights.
being partly serviced, amina comes every day to make breakfast at whatever time you wish, sweeps around the main areas and supplies you with everything you need, just ask her whatever seems to be missing or to be replaced .... she does amazing home cooking on demand for little budget and great culinary delight, not to be missed ;)
bed sheets and towels are supplied as well as a generous breakfast. There is a hairdryer, 2 ipod-stations and a wireless internet connection for free use.
a pick-up from the airport or local station can be organized. FAVORITE SPOTS - "COUPS DE COEUR" ;)
I will be supplying you with my list of “FAVORITE SPOTS/ COUPS DE COEUR” or any other information you might need for in and around marrakesh to add this stay to some unforgetable travel memories.**
La Maison, located in the eastern medina, is a wonderful oasis of peace and comfort. Beautifully decorated, it provides a stylish alternative to hotel life. The rooftop garden is the perfect spot to start your day with a fresh orange juice and a healthy breakfast, or while away a few lazy do-nothing hours on comfortable cushions under a brilliant azure sky. And then, when the mood takes you, plunge again into the busy streets and souks just a few metres away. Together, Nicole (the owner), Amina (who comes each day to make breakfast), and Samir (who provides the transport) make for a stress-free and totally enjoyable week in Marrakech. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
We've just got back from an amazing few days at la maison. The house is stunning, amina is lovely and Nicole couldn't be more helpful. I've travelled the world and rarely stayed anywhere better
Staying at Nicole's riad was a great experience! The communication was very good - fast, helpful and sweet. The riad is beautiful and Amina is an excellent cook. We recommend future guests to try her tasty meals for dinner :).
You know the places that you stay at and love, and rave about to everyone on your return? It happens every so often, and it is great when it does. What is even rarer - happening only once or twice in life - is when you find a place so good that you actually never want to tell anyone about it so that you can keep the secret all to yourself! This is that place.
Nicole was amazing - Amina was amazing - the riad was amazing. All three of these things exceeded our expectations, and went so far above and beyond that it felt like an über five star experience.
The photos are accurate, as are the reviews that heap praise on the facilities, the location, Nicole's attention to detail and assistance, and Amina. Our two year old was in love with "Nina" and even now on our return home is wandering around the house and calling out her name hoping to see her smile, hear her speak French to him, and taste her amazing food.
There is little that we can say that has not already been said - Nicole has to stop everything she is doing, find more properties, and do this as a full time living. She is simply what makes the AirBnB service what it is - the perfect example of an amazing host with a phenomenal product and service.
Thank you for everything Nicole and Amina - we will be coming back as soon as possible, and will try our best not to keep this diamond too much of a secret!
Three of us had a wonderful five-night stay in La Maison over the Christmas holiday. The riad is exactly as described, it's beautiful, spacious and very comfortable - even with the cool winter nights, as Amina came to light the fire each evening and gas heaters were provided in the bedrooms. We enjoyed a leisurely breakfast each morning with the menu offering plenty of variety for different tastes and appetites. We also enjoyed two dinners prepared by Amina - lovely fish tajines with moroccan salads. Nicole was an exceptional host, always available to answer queries and communicate our wishes to Amina when our French language skills weren't up to the task. We would love to return to La Maison and stay at another (warmer) time of year.
Our stay was fantastic and Nicole and Amina really made everything so much more special. Communication with Nicole was very good before, during and after. She was helpful, honest and went over and above throughout to ensure the stay was not only to our taste but safe and easy going. My only note for not 5 stars was a bit of a wobble with the lack of french/arabic/english with us and the local team on the ground. We had a few troubles communicating where we were for taxis and arranging times and other things but Nicole was incredible as she was constantly available and staid on top of things to assist. In hind sight there would be a few things I would do differently to prepare myself for being out and about.
Amina's care for our experience, her cooking and heartfelt hospitality was really incredible. Although language was lost on us some times there was a nice bond and we were very grateful for all that she did. Our dinner on the first night was better than any restaurant and more comfortable in the house than out and about! I also got to learn how to make mint tea - more tricky than you would think!
The house was pretty chilly (time of year obviously) so prepare yourself for that - felt i was walking around in my coat and slippers to stay warm. The water for showers was luke warm most days but we weren't in there for long so didn't necessarily address it at the time. I am thinking the place would only get better with warmer weather.
I personally wouldn't have walked to the main square although it is posed to be rather close - not necessarily for safety but more for getting lost (although they say that is part of the fun). Having the local taxi definitely helped relieve any anxiety with getting around from point A to B. We only had a few days so time was money and they made that easier.
Nicole's design and taste was gorgeous - I wanted to find replicas and take it all home. Thanks for the inspiration!
Would highly recommend this place for couples, families and other adventure seekers who like a touch of local experience and high end experience. Thank you again for all that you did Nicole!
As many have said before Nicoles beautiful riad is an oasis of calm in the bustling city that is marrakech. It was a welcome retreat at the end of day and Aminas food was an additional treat. The area was very local and gave us an added flavour of Marrakech. Nicole was a helpful host and communication was frequent. I'd love to stay again! Thanks Nicole.
The little treasures and the beauty of Nicole's riad are exfolding more and more the longer you stay. It is located in a local area and was our retreat after our strolls through the buzzling city. The communication with Nicole was so kind and excellent from the beginning. Amina is such a lovely person and her couscous could be served in star rated restaurant. It was the best we had in Marrakesh.
We loved the experience living like a local and felt secure and so comfortable. We would loooove to return. Thanks, Nicole!
This is a beautiful riad. My boyfriend and I stayed here for 5 nights in August 2013. It happened to be Ramadan at the time, which was not a problem per se - although it meant that it was a little creepy walking around the area in the early evenings because very few people were around, but after about 10pm the city came to life and there were many more tourists and people going about their business. For women I'd recommend covering your legs and shoulders in the area around the riad, only because it is a lot more 'local' than, say, over at the main square which is crawling with tourists. The upside is that around Nicole's riad you really get to see how local people live. The riad itself is fantastic - we had it completely to ourselves, which was a real luxury. Amina came to make our breakfast every morning and we had a few dinners on the terrace as well - she's a great cook and it makes you feel very spoiled :-) It's also excellent that Nicole makes sure there is plenty of wine, beer, bottled water etc. for a small price. Samir, the driver that Nicole arranged for us, was excellent as well - friendly, reliable and knowledgeable. He took us out to the mountains for a day trip to see the waterfalls, which is well worth it. The riad is relatively cool even when its 45 degrees outside, so we spent most of our time just hanging out there, reading and using the little pool - very relaxing! Would also definitely recommend the restaurant Le Foundouk. Thanks Nicole!
Nicoles house ist just amazing and we had a really nice time there!! With the maps she sent to us it was pretty easy to find the riad. Amina came every morning and evening to make breakfast or cook something else delicious for us. It would be advantageous to speak French or Arabic. Unfortunately we were just able to speak a few sentences to her, as our French isn´t that good. But anyhow everything is perfectly organized in this house. There is a menu card where you can choose what you like to eat and drinks were already waiting in the fridge for us. The little pool was also a nice refreshment in those hot days and sleeping in the bed on the roof top undeneath the stars was always the perfect ending of our days there.
The Djemaa el Fna (big market from the postcards :-P) is just a few minutes to walk.
We will definitely keep this house in memory!! :-)
