About this listing
Special price reduction for Aug 30-Sept 4!
Cozy apt close to everything one would want in downtown NYC. Near 3 major subway lines, Whole Foods, Duane Reade drugstore, and all the shopping Soho and Nolita have to offer. Reviews say it all!
At "Simple Perfect Soho" you will be greeted by simple, clean decor with comforts that you might find in your own home. Without the clutter of personal effects, the apartment indeed remains cozy.
Sitting on the edge of a little park in Soho, officially called Petrosino Square, on Cleveland Place between Spring and Kenmare, the location could not be better. In traditional Soho style, this is an old, walk-up, brick building. The entrance and common area are nothing special, but three flights up you will find your peaceful apartment with a view of a great, green wall (in spring/summer).
You won't go hungry with restaurants like Mexican Radio, La Esquina, Spring Natural, and Cafe Select sitting directly on the square. The classic french bistro, beloved to New Yorkers and visitors alike, Balthazar, is but a two minute walk.
Having lived in the city for a total of 10 years with a 5 year break in Switzerland, I can certainly provide you with restaurant, shopping, museum and gallery tips, and direct European visitors to experiences either new and adventurous or comforting and closer to home.
I only ask visitors to be gentle with the apartment and treat it and its contents as if they were your own.
Things to know:
- 3 flight walk-up (that means three sets of stairs to climb to your floor)
- the door between the living room and bedroom has been removed to open up the space, visually. For privacy, I have recently installed a nice curtain.
- For reservations including 4 guests, there is the fold-down sofa bed (little larger than a twin) and a twin-size inflatable mattress - all with appropriate bedding (mattress pad, sheets, blank/feather duvet).
- For those of us concerned with inhaling nasty chemicals, rest assured that the apt is cleaned using GREEN/ECO supplies!
Interaction with Guests
I will meet you for check-in and check-out and be available via text or email for any questions you might have during your stay.
I particularly like the small shops and restaurants in Nolita (check out WARM at 181 Mott Street). And a few minutes west on Spring Street or east on Kenmare leads directly to the Westside Highway or Williamsburg Bridge - a good run with spectacular views in either direction, so bring your fitness gear!
N/R (yellow), 6 (green), C/E (blue) trains are all within 1-5 minutes walk!
Whole Foods grocery store on Houston and Bowery.
Duane Reade pharmacy right on the corner at Spring and Cleveland.
"Hight Street" shops on Broadway, Prince and Spring Streets, mainly.
Download UBER or LIFT car apps in case you can't find a taxi.
Things to know:
BE AWARE of that first step "up" into the apt. If you don’t remember that it’s there, it could result in a fall. It's a normal size step, but as its the same color wood as the floor it can disappear.
Basic cable TV only.
"Hot water comes to those who wait". It's an old building in an old city (by US standards) and you are on the top floor, so please allow the water to run on "hot" for about 60-90 seconds before it reaches a scalding temperature.
By law in NYC, the building owners do not have to provide heat after April 15th. If it is chilly, there is a portable heater under the bed and extra blankets. If the cold weather persists, the majority of NY’s heat stays on.
Fire Exits: Front door, roof door and fire escape accessed through apt window in bedroom.
No smoking in the apt, please.
Lights & Air Conditioning take a lot of electricity. Please do not leave on when you leave the apartment.
This is NYC and cockroaches rule. Please don't lure them into the apt by leaving food and crumbs around and dirty dishes in the sink. If they smell it, they will come!
Trash days are M, W, F, therefore the trash goes on the street curb after 5pm on Sunday, Tuesday & Thursday. The building super takes the trash to the curb for us, usually. FYI - if the police see you dumping a large garbage bag in the public trash bins on the street, there is a fine.
Recycling items can be left in the apt for housekeeping. In NYC, we recycle plastic bottles/containers, glass and all paper (but not paper towels or tissue!). Feel free to separate trash from recycling in the bins downstairs. The recycling bin is for plastic, glass and metal. I put any paper (shopping bags, boxes, paper) to the side on the floor to make it easier for “Super” (superintendent) Sidney : )
Please keep music and TV at a reasonable volume.
No breakdancing or high-heel prancing about the apartment unless you want a visit from the tenant below you.
I don’t recommend hanging out on the roof and definitely not while drinking or wearing high heel shoes (they can puncture through). If you want fresh air in the hallway, feel free to open the roof access door for ventilation only.
If at any time there is a problem in the apt, such as water leak or a broken appliance, please contact me as soon as possible so that any damage may be contained and your stay remains comfortable.
Enjoy New York!

About the Host, Jennifer
From the western US and living in the big city. Love to travel abroad, eat good food, drink great wine and search out unique accommodations. Outdoors, I like to ski (downhill & randonée), hike, paddle board, surf (well, I try) and breath fresh air. In fact, I spent the last 18 months doing just that and I highly recommend it - for body and soul!
