About This Listing
Next to the Beach and National Park, this area is filled with nature - take time to rest, swim, walk. The bedroom is light and sunny and doubles as a lounge room. You have your own car park and entrance and can prepare simple meals in the kitchenette
Welcome to Byron Bay!
We have a reputation for quiet here. We are in the oceanside National Park and a few minutes through the bush to deserted beaches, which also happen to be dog leash free.
This room has total privacy, its own entrance and courtyard, a queen bed, bathroom, a kitchenette. There is space in the room for your own yoga practice or exercise inside. Or stroll to the nearby beach where you can walk 20kms each way - its great for long walks and the best exercise. It is ideal to take this room if you want to take time for nature, sun, surf, bush and deserted beach therapy - We love it!
We two gals own this house at the Bay just south of pristine national park at the north end o(website hidden)shire. See the map or google mia court to orientate our location. It is quiet and the beaches are nearly deserted most days and patrolled by lifeguards to the south at holiday season only.
We have two dogs, and have created beautiful subtropical garden. It's good to drive here if you want to take advantage of all the good food cafes and restuarants in Byron Bay town - 20 minutes south from here. If not, make simple meals in the kitchentte and one of us will take you shopping if you need each few days. Internet access with some download and tv/dvd no problem. IF you come by plane to Gold Coast airport, or bus to Byron or Brunswick Heads terminal, for less than an airport bus fee, one of us will pick you up in a convertible orange sports car to add extra zest to your stay - it is a turbo and really cute, wild and free with a rattle or two for character.
We both work full time - yet you can book one of us for a yoga, meditation or breathwork session, or a massage with aromatherapy oils - if you like. Please feel free to contact us with any questions.
Bonus for DOG LOVERS - you may bring your dog by negotiation - the beach is for dogs and leash free as a bonus! - It is just a few minutes away and when dogs are free we all love it! The condition for having your dog to stay also is that you do not leave the dog alone here - you take it wherever you go. There is also a tidal river site nearby which the dogs love - or for kayaking? easy access and near a great cafe called Yum Yum Tree with good coffee (bottle shop next door too). Even closer, is "the Shop" cafe a short walk along the beach or five suburban bushy blocks.
We have two beach bikes - to ride on the beach or ride to the two these nearby cafes - one at 5 minutes and the other ten minutes away - both next to the grocery shops and one bottle shop.
Oh - and did we tell you: the street is gorgeous and quiet - and we have a free park, tennis court and basket ball square! located just a few houses to the east and next to the track to the beach.
Unless you are going to have a really laid back local stay only, its best to have a car to get to the great cafes and restaurants in the shire - 70 or more. Buses are very few - taxi is ok if you have plenty of money or an emergency.
You have your own car park and own entrance gate and one share courtyard outside the kitchenette followed by your own private courtyard, room entrance and bathroom door. The kitchenette is also the laundry which we use every few days - otherwise it is all yours. There is equipment for basic meals and making breakfast, lunch etc. There is a convection glass oven which is quick and easy and an electric frypan, and all other basics.
Interaction with Guests
I love having guests and giving out information about the area. However i find the guests who choose this space are already independent and looking for a quiet and laid back time next to the beach. So i mainly see them coming and going in the car space, and they text me if they need something. I work from home so i am mostly available if needed. We have our own entrance and live at the other side of the house. We share a common shut off inner wall to the guest's totally private bedroom with its own courtyard. There may be some sound that travels through the wall but there has been no problems reported so far.
We do not guarantee we will be there during the duration of the guest's stay. However the rooms that are yours are totally separate and you are fully self sufficient.
The beach !! I love that we are so close to the ocean and National Park, and the beach stretches for endless kilometres to the north and south, with only bush beside it. There are no visible houses or buildings when you are on the beach - only bush and the chirps of native birds. The street is a cul-de-sac so it is quiet as no cars are going past. The area is full of nature and this is a street of nice homes and native gardens.
Being a dog owner i love the proximity to one of the few leash-free dog beaches in the shire.
There is also proximity to a yummy cafe called Yum Yum Tree ((website hidden) it for details) and a post office and shop next to the mangrove creek which has a bottle shop for grabbing a bottle of wine or spirits. Another cafe is even closer - called "the Shop" its in South Golden Beach a few blocks away - with first class burgers, fish and chips and take away meals from curries to pizza.
Otherwise its surburban beach side living with lots of bush walks but most people use the long long beach for walking. The street park has a tennis court and basketball square and swings for children.
Its best to have a car here. But If you want to retreat you can stay here and be self sufficient and walk to the beach and local shop - or use our bikes to get there. We can drop you to the bigger supermarket 5 minutes away each few days if you need. Public transport is three buses a day, but we can also drop you off to places we are going if your schedule has a lot of free time.
Park your car on the pebbled driveway parallel to the garage door and in front of your own entrance gate to the left of the garage doors - its got a horseshoe on it.
Other Things to Note
The apartment/flat is made of three rooms off two courtyards so it does not always match how people think of an apartment. It has one bedroom, which doubles as a lounge, and a bathroom both of which open into the private courtyard. You have your own entrance from the share courtyard. The share courtyard opens into the kitchenette with a washing machine that we use every few days. Otherwise the kitchenette is totally for your use.
The dvd is in the back of the television screen so put the dvd in with the silver side facing you - and the label facing away from you.
SPECIAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE BEACH -
You can find it down the track next to the tennis court which is just 6 houses back down the street. The beach is unpatrolled, and we strongly advise you to have fun in the surf but never try to float/swim - keep your hands or feet on the sandy bottom at all times. Since it is such a long beach it has circular movements of the waves and tide and so you can be moved out to sea or north or south. The good news is that if this happens, the tide will also wash you back in further up the beach, so keep floating and let it push you back in IF it took you out!
I work from home so i can repond to you most days if you need anything. Best way is text - (phone number hidden)
The modem is a mobile one and takes a few devices. At holiday times and weekends it may have a weak signal. If you must rely on internet while you are here it may not be reliable enough.
telstra 4GA-5B8A - pw is available when you get here. Sometimes the modem needs to be turned off and then on again, so you need to text me.
Most guests are wanting to be independent and self sufficient. This is a good place for that sort of stay. Its a quiet area so the apartment/flat is for a single or a couple wanting a quiet time, who love nature and the beach, bush walking etc.
One of us will take you to the supermarket every few days if you want to stay without your own transport and walk or bike everywhere.
The minimum stay is two nights and set up for you to leave by noon. We are flexible and it is ok to stay until 4pm on your last day - if no one is booked in for that day.
There is an outdoor shower and hose in the driveway corner for washing off sand, but you also have a hose in the courtyard too. It saves the sand-in-the-shower problem which we want to avoid.
You may need to use the earphones on the television/dvd player if you are watching it late at night - our sleeping neighbours and their children a just nearby!
We have a cleaning fee but we do ask you to leave the room, bathroom and kitchen as clean as you found them. The cleaning fee is for setting up and making the rooms super ready for you and then the next guest.
FOR DOG OWNERS - read on please ....
You can bring your dog/s by negotiation, as long as you pay for any damage including the doors - $400 each for deep scratches ( so far no problems ) or carpet. Since there is no shelter for a dog, please always take your dog with you whenever you go out. Your courtyard has a high fence - you can see in the pictures. it is really safe for a dog/s.
There are many dogs in the street so a special request is that, when you come back from the beach, you bring your dog right into the courtyard on a leash. Its better for us if you bring your own sheets and bedding if you have a dog/s. Let us know if you are doing that thanks.
The only other request is that you close the doors of the rooms if you are not in them or you go out as the wasps and lizards can come in and make your room their home - we are right next to bush!
Really enjoy the simplistic nature of Al's place. A minute stroll to the track that leads to the beach. A wonderful place to base yourself out of the bigger coastal towns yet just a quick trip into town.
Al allowed me to have my own space yet was able to text her to get advice or help with any matter.
The room is perfect for those who just like to chill out, read a book or take in the beauty the area has to offer!
A relaxing, easy place to stay if you are looking for a quiet holiday. Very clean and close to the beach. Al was very helpful and easy to correspond with.
We had a very pleasant stay. Al was very friendly, accommodating and flexible. The place was very clean and comfortable and had everything we required( including DVDs which we needed when it rained). Would love to come up again with our dog next time. I can highly recommend it!
Hello Michael and Elly,
So glad your stay was pleasant - yes please come back with your dog next time.
We do ask that you always take the dog with you as there is no shelter in the courtyard etc - so thats the house rules around dogs.
Happy New Year 2015 from Al and Vic
This was our second stay and we're so happy we came back. Al was lovely and helpful as always, and we had an amazing time. Our dog loved being so close to a huge dog beach for morning walks, and we can't wait to bring her back again. A beautiful place to relax!
A great location and a very cosy, impeccably clean studio space. Thoroughly enjoyed the adjacent courtyard. Quiet street and very handy to a dog friendly beach which was ideal for the two dogs. Al was very helpful and communication was easy and comfortable. Would have no hesitation in returning and recommending to others. Thanks Al!
Al's studio is like a haven in paradise! I felt so comfortable and relaxed as soon as I arrived. She has created a place with a beautiful feel.
It was also totally spotless and she had made some lovely touches like leaving fresh flowers in my room and fruit in the kitchen.
Everything was as described and just like the pictures and Al was super helpful with the couple of queries I had.
All round an absolutely fabulous stay! I will definitely be back!
Beautiful spot - very quiet and private.
Lovely place to stay :)
About the Host, Al
I live next to the beach at the northern end of Byron Bay. I love nature and spending time with people, especially those who are into personal development and transformation.
My background metaphysics which i studied as a teenager and then yoga - i trained as a yoga teacher in 1977, when i lived for nine years as a swami in the Indian yoga ashram of Swami Satyananda (phone number hidden). Upon my return to Australia I also trained to become a breathworker and my main work now is training breathworkers. The courses are accredited in the Australian Qualification Framework as nationally recognised vocational training. I also conduct retreats one to one and i love this work which produces great results.
I first went to India to be initated into Kriya Yoga 1976 and so i have been practising and teaching yoga and meditation for a long time. I love yoga and breathwork, especially the breathwork capacity to support people in living intentionally instead of just surviving.
The other fun side of my life is my dogs and the dog beach just here which is leash free
I am open to having visitors with well behaved dogs stay here, and those who love to see a dog free on a beach as much as I do. The beach here is as far as the eye can see north and south and no buildings in sight - and mostly deserted. So stay here if you want a quiet break, maybe some yoga or breathwork as extra by negotiation.
Kitchenette facilities here are basic. There is a glass convection oven and an electric fry pan, two hot plates and a small fridge. However - there are 72 restaurants and cafes within a half hour of here - world class some of them. Brisbane is 90 minutes, Gold Coast half an hour - if you want
Its best to come here if you have a car or dont want to leave the beach and room - just sun and surf and rest and reading.
Gold Coast airport pick up maybe available on request for anyone staying for more than one week
