this is a residential neighborhood

please respect others in the house, noise, clean up kitchen ..smoke outside only
Dan was very welcoming and was a great host. The location of the place and the room is what you would expect for the price given the general cost of living in Nantucket (pretty upper class island). No complaints. The bus runs great in the summer and it was easy to get around as long as you time your travels well.
Dan was a nice host. The room was tidy. It is a 10-15 minute buys ride from town, and the bus runs every hour.
Dan is a very nice, friendly guy. He was very communicative and helpful. (I think he took some earlier feedback on this point seriously and has worked to improve his communication). He has a shop in town and has lived on the island for years and years so he knows his way around and is very helpful.
The place is a private house - and rather "ramshackle" in character. Unlike the beautifully maintained and landscaped homes in the neighborhood and elsewhere on the road and on the island.
Essentially, you're renting Dan's room while he sleeps on the couch in the second floor living room. You share the house with him and several renters on the first floor. The house is always unlocked so you will want to take your valuables with you when you go out. Because there are a few people living there it's an open situation. Also, there are often visitors who knock and sometimes let themselves in to "view" the offering becasue it is so inexpense relative to other places.
You share the bathroom with Dan and Dan's stuff. It's not especially neat or even clean by my standards - but I didn't mind. I would say - fine for guys but most women who aren't campers may not feel particularly happy here.
As you'll see - it's by far the least expensive place on the island and it's close to (10 minute slow walk with beach chair) to the beach at the end of Tom Nevers and also Sakonset by bike or bus. Free buses run twice an hour 500' from / to town (7AM - 11PM) so it's easy to get around although a bit time consuming.
A taxi to/from town is $20 plus tip . . . so you'll likely want to take the bus.
Would I go back????
Yes - but not with a date unless she has a good sense of humor! ; )
This place is disgusting. Do not stay with Dan. It's not even worth the lower rate compared to other options. Just like he didn't bother to clean up the bed for the photo, he didn't even greet us when we arrived. He had zero interest in making our one-night stay comfortable. The photo is very telling of the experience. There is clutter everywhere, the blanket was filthy, and there are a bunch of random people living downstairs who he must rent to. I did not feel comfortable staying here, and his house is extremely isolated, so it's difficult to get anywhere if you do not have a bike or car. Again, do not stay here.
perhaps you failed to use the public bus service which is a four minute walk.i make sure the bathroom was clean and the bedroom is clean also. most have enjoyed their stay. if you want to pay 3-500 dollars pernite you always have that option. unfortunately Nantucket is an expensive place and I run a boutique which is full time. yes I rent to thers and most never even see them. truly the blanket was not filthy. you need to stay in town at a pricey guesthouse next time I do not believe I did 0 to make the stay comfortable. try the bus system you might like it
Dans home was perfect! We were on the island for the triathlon so we were prepared to bike everywhere! I almost forgot the end of Tom nevers road is a large field overlooking the beach which hosts the carnival and music festivals - bonus. I'm a lover of ack so I can't complain. Dan has a few other folks living in the house, but we never saw them. It felt like it was our own house because of the design. Dan is sweet and was very helpful and responsive with us shipping our bikes to the island. We definitely recommend dans house and hope to book it once more this year!
