The Space

Beautiful enchanted forest home, with the sounds & sights of the Rockfish Gap River running by. This house contains over thirty unique large windows to nature. 360 degree views of the mountains half the year. Within five miles of Wintergreen Resort & forty minutes from Charlottesville VA.

11 acres with numerous well kept paths & hundreds of acres of unspoiled nature right outside your door. Three unique fireplaces, full house radiant floor heat. Hi-end stereo & large screen Movie Theater. Ping Pong & floating in the river, or lounging & watching the stars from the wrap around elevated deck. There are three formal sleeping areas, all with queen-size beds, although the loft is a semi private space with fold out bed, it is very large, well removed from other areas & has incredible views!

We offer very personalized service & communication. All items in the house are unique & of high quality. No old Tupperware here!

We recently lowered our rates a bit to accommodate a broader group of folks. We do require a minimum of one week rental during the, Christmas holiday, but we will give you a great deal! Although there is WIFI & internet & no charge for that, we do not offer free downloading of movies or music. For that there will be a 25.00 per day fee.

Instant relaxation is achieved the moment you step into Frogsong House. Citrus Blossoms outside & beautifully painted walls inside, with the constant sound of the rushing river. This is a complete experience way beyond just staying in a rental house. Think organic towels, night glowing deck rails, staircases made of trees, sunshine filled house with over twenty-five large windows and incredible views. Right Now Super Deals & Lower Nightly Price!

  • I can't say enough what a fantastic time I had at Frogsong! The trip came at the end of a very stressful work period, and there couldn't have been a better cure. The house itself is so spacious, bright and quirky - and you are surrounded by the loveliest of nature: a babbling river, rustling trees and a constant whispery breeze.

We came in the midst of a heat wave (95+ degrees), but never once turned on the air conditioner and felt a refreshing breeze day and night. The trails along the property were peaceful and perfect for a morning jaunt, and the private river (with swimming hole) was a nice way to cool off in the afternoons.

But besides the house itself, I would come back again just for Ken - he was very helpful in what was a tricky booking process and made sure to check with us numerous times throughout the trip to ensure our comfort.

I loved Frogsong and can't wait to come back - maybe this time in the winter!

    Thanks again, Ken!

  • W.O.W! The Frogsong river house blew us away with its serenity - it was just what the doctor ordered for a special, relaxing weekend away from city life. The house was enormous and the 11 acres of private land in which it sits was perfect for leisurely strolls through the wilderness. The jacuzzi tub and the outdoor firepit / glass enclosed indoor fireplace were the icing on the cake for our romantic getaway. Ken and Alice were genuinely interested in making our stay as hassle free and pleasant as possible and the house had all the amenities you'd expect from your own home -- and so much more. The ping pong table in the basement and the music system with speakers throughout the house were special touches that kept us entertained. We can't wait to return.

  • I cannot say enough kind words about Frogsong and about Kenneth's hospitality. The house itself is beautiful with tasteful decor and fascinating design elements. The kitchen had everything we could have hoped for, which was important since we wanted to (email hidden) weekend. The property around Frogsong is peaceful and serene, especially the babbling river that runs behind the house. While we didn't meet Kenneth during our stay, he was exceptionally attentive to our needs before, during, and after our stay. I highly recommend this home for your next country getaway.

  • A peaceful and charming spot! Certainly one of the more unique places we've stayed, with a lovely view through dozens of windows of all shapes and sizes, radiant heat floors, a hurricane fire in the center of the main room, fascinating light fixtures – "house of 1,000 light switches," we called it – and more. Ken couldn't have been more hospitable from afar, and his neighbor Randy even hauled out his tractor and helped us when our car got stuck in the snow. A most satisfying, rejuvenating, and revitalizing stay. Thank you, Ken!

  • We had a wonderful time! Frogsong is so beautiful! The house is clean and impeccably decorated. It is near a stream and has a large yard with a fire pit. We enjoyed sitting around the fire both outside and used the glass wood stove inside as well. We went apple picking as well as going to a vineyard and a brewery. It is far enough off the beaten bath to be quiet and charming, but is close enough to town to be convenient. It is an ideal place. Lovely and wonderful! Thank you!

  • We had a nice relaxing weekend there. Hope to go back sometime. Great place for relaxing in the woods, touring wineries and day hikes in the area. Ken is a gracious host.

  • Beautiful house, really spectacular! Frogsong backs up to a pretty dense wooded area and stream/river-- plenty of small hiking trails perfect for kids, and a couple of lovely hammocks and resting areas in the woods. We loved it!

  • Frogsong was the perfect home away-from-home for my husband and I, and my parents when they came to visit us from the UK. The space meant that we could lounge around, make dinner (using ingredients from the local farmers' market), dance like no one was watching, and of course take part in a spot of post dinner ping-pong! Much more fun than staying in a stuffy B&B. Being an architectural home, the property is clearly a personal expression of who Ken and Alice are, which is really interesting.

In respect of our elders (!) we offered my parents the master bedroom which has an open plan ensuite bathroom and huge undressed windows that make you feel like you're actually in the forest. I think if you're two couples you could feel like you're getting the raw end of the deal if you're in the more cozy, darker room - so you may not want to split the costs straight down the middle. Just a thought.

In terms of the house location, Nellysford has a provisions store, a cute cafe and a couple of other pub-grub options for dinner. It's also not too far from vineyards such as Barboursville (which has a great restaurant), the quaint town of Charlottesville, Monticello, and the start/end of the Sky Drive, so there's plenty to do if you don't just want to lounge around in the peace and tranquility.

  • We had a great time at Frogsong. The house was beautiful, the view was beautiful, and it was the perfect location for a college friend reunion. We had beautiful weather and we were able to sit on the porch. The house is the perfect distance to all of the great breweries, Devil's Backbone, Wild Wolf. The house has an awesome stream in the back.
Ken was especially helpful making sure that we had everything we needed and were comfortable. He was an amazing host and I can't wait to return for another weekend/week.
