About this listing
Bright, airy penthouse apartment in Bauhaus building across from the Droh!me park, Brussels Golf Club and National Forest and near trains.
My place is a big, bright, airy penthouse (7th floor) across from the Brussels Golf Club and the Bois de la Cambre in southeastern Brussels between Ixelles, Uccle and Boitsfort. It's close to the Ring road (RO) and E411 highway but close to downtown by car or public transport. The #94 tram stops literally at my front door and is just 5 stops from the Free University of Brussels (ULB). I'm 15-20 minutes from the EU Quarter (Place Luxembourg/Rond-Point Schuman) or 20-30 minutes from Ave. Louise and downtown by car or public transport, depending on the day and time. There's plenty of free parking in the neighborhood.
The sunny, South-facing living area has great views of the Brussels Golf Club (9 holes) and Bois de la Cambre (national forest), which is great for jogging, biking or just walking, and the bedrooms have a nice view sans vis-à-vis towards downtown and the East.
I have two guest bedrooms. This listing is for the room that doubles as my home office when not occupied by my son or guests. It has a comfortable, queen-sized sofabed, desk, two closets and access onto a private terrace with a nice view towards the centre of town. The room is about 12 square meters (~130 square feet) and sleeps two. The two guest bedrooms share a bathroom and WC that are separate from my own. There is no TV in the guest rooms but you can use my TV as well as the living room, dining room and kitchen, fast WiFi, balconies, etc. I provide linens and soap and for stays under a week I can provide a healthy continental breakfast (fresh bread, OJ, coffee/tea, cereals, milk and yogurt). For people staying longer than a week, after the first week and in exchange for a lower price I expect you to do your own grocery shopping.
Eating: There's a small grocery store next door, a good, sunny café and restaurant in the golf club across the street, and other restaurants and bars either a short walk or a couple of tram stops away. I provide a list of everything close, as well as fliers for a few places that deliver. I also always have some "easy" eats such as frozen pizza that I offer at cost. And I like to cook and am happy to share if I'm eating in.
I'll gladly give advice on things to do and see in the area and around Brussels and where to eat and will do my best to make you feel at home.
Payment via Airbnb, please. I do not give any discount for cash. Please note that Airbnb provides the address and phone number with your booking confirmation. Until then I prefer to keep all correspondence via the Airbnb system.
Guests have full run of the common parts of the apartment, but are asked to respect my private spaces and the room of my flatmate.
Interaction with Guests
I work across town but am available in the mornings, evenings and by phone in between as needed.
The neighbourhood is named Hippodrome de Boitsfort after the former horse racing track across the street, which was recently rebranded Droh!me. It hosts the 9-hole Brussels Golf Club, where anyone can hit balls or putt for a small fee. The Club's café/restaurant is also open to the public.
There is a tram stop in front of the building (Hippodrome), bus stops nearby and I am about equidistant between two train stops, Bondael and Boitsfort, with connections to the EU Quarter and downtown.
No illegal activities or parties without permission.
No eating in the living room (sofas aren't washable).
Please recycle paper, plastic, glass and cans - it's mandatory in Brussels. I'll show you how and where.
Please do not leave lights or the television on unless you're using them.
Please clean up after yourselves in the kitchen. The dishwasher makes it easy!
Please respect my privacy - I'll respect yours.
The golf course welcomes guests and has a nice bar, café and restaurant with south-facing terrace.
About the Host, Brandon
I'm an American who has lived in Belgium for 16 years and worked as a journalist for many years before switching to public relations. I speak German, French and Italian in addition to English.
I'm into tennis, mountain biking (My apartment is across the street from a Belgian national forest called the Foret des Soignes), movies (science fiction!), theater (tragedies), music, travel and cooking, among other things.
I've traveled a lot and often (email hidden). Long ago I also benefitted from the hospitality of others as an exchange student. I'd always thought about running a B&B in retirement, then found out about airbnb and thought, Why wait? I have a big place because I need space for my two boys when they visit on weekends (I'm divorced) but the space is wasted if it's not appreciated, and I don't like to waste. ;-)
