About This Listing
Serpentine Studio is a beautiful and quiet two room studio apartment located in the historic Woolen Mills neighborhood. It is a part of our 1830's brick home and is located only 1.5 miles from downtown Charlottesville and 2.5 miles from the University of Virginia (both can easily accessed by the nearby city bus line).
As a part of our property we offer a private dock with a hammock and deck chair overlooking the Rivanna River, a perfect spot to relax and watch the wildlife. The river setting offers a unique, peaceful environment where one is able to step back from the business of life, while simultaneously remaining close to the center of town. Our house is located near the Rivanna River Trail which winds along the river for 12 miles and offers wonderful opportunities for biking, hiking, birdwatching, and the possibilities of canoeing and fishing.
The studio apartment has its own private and easily accessed entrance, and is beautifully renovated with heart pine floors and exposed brick walls. There is an adjacent breakfast room overlooking the river with a water cooker, coffee maker and small refrigerator. We will provide tea, coffee, and a basic breakfast for your convenience. Both rooms are decorated with original artwork. The owner's nearby sculpture studio offers an artistic setting with sculptures in progress as well as original artwork placed throughout the house and large backyard. The bathroom offers a shower and an antique claw foot bath tub.
No pets & no smoking inside
The apartment is on a beautifully secluded curve of the Rivanna River, yet only a short ride to downtown. It is the best of both worlds. After a long day traveling we were happy to find Ninni had the apartment stocked with yogurt, fruit, cereal, and great books!
Ninni's Serpentine Studio was a lovely place to stay. With its rustic floorboards, exposed brick, and huge back yard, it feels like a very private and a hidden gem, but is still very close to everything Charlotteville has to offer.
Enjoying a coffee and a book on the dock overlooking the river was our favorite way to start each day. Ninni and Bill were great hosts and check in/out was seamless. The studio is just as described and is decorated with Ninni's lovely art throughout. I especially enjoyed the mosaic works. Fruit, yogurt, juice, milk and some other breakfast items were provided and appreciated.
We would recommend Serpentine Studio to anyone looking to get away or a conveniently located spot in Charlottesville.
Ninni's description of her studio apartment was right on the mark! It was unique, homey and just beautiful. Hosts have been warm and inviting and there if we needed them. There was fruit, yogurt, orange juice, cereal and coffee available for breakfast or a snack. We enjoyed looking at her artwork and every day we seemed to find a new piece we missed the day before. The river patio was lovely and relaxing after a hard day of sight seeing! Thank you for sharing a part of your home with us!!
The Serpentine Studio was fantastic! It felt secluded and intimate while only being a short 5-10 minute drive from everything that downtown Charlottesville has to offer. While we didn't have the opportunity to meet Ninni and Bill during our stay, they made us feel right at home with breakfast items and fresh fruit for our stay. This was our first AirBnb experience and the bar was set very high!
The Serpentine Studio was delightful- a unique combination of artwork and sculpture and cozy vintage charm. The claw foot tub in the bathroom and the comfortable bed made the stay even more enjoyable. We had everything thing we needed for a light, delicious breakfast of cereal, milk, orange juice and fruit. And of course good coffee.
The expansive yard of the studio made an early morning stroll to the dock and river felt like a peaceful journey. Even a pair of friendly neighborhood cats joined me on my walk. The dock on the river is private and beautiful.
My husband-to-be and I spent the night before our wedding and our wedding night at the studio. I could not have asked for a more special place to spend such a special time. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a uniquely beautiful and comfortable place to stay.
Well it was unusual for the host as she was in Sweden when we booked, so I understand that. But we wasted at least a half hour trying to figure out where the apartment was & where the key was as no information was left about that. The person that finally met us, never mentioned that we could drive down to the back to unload. We found that out luckily, by chance before we loaded to leave. The apartment is comfortable, but more like a room as there is a very tiny fridge....no real means to cook at all, no TV, & we had to improvise a drain plug to use the bath as there was nothing provided. The location is not really near downtown as far as walking ( at least 10 or 12 blocks) But the location & backyard is great &The bed was super comfortable.
It sounds like Kenneth never read the access instructions I sent him prior to his visit, without them it is hard do find the studio. Those also explained that I was in Sweden but that my husband was at home.
As stated in my ad on airbnb there is no kitchen or TV in the studio. I am sorry Kenneth did not get what he expected out of his visit with us.
About the Host, Ninni
I am Swedish and my husband is from Los Angeles. We have lived in Charlottesville for the past 25 years and love it. I work as a sculptor and an art instructor but have always dreamt of running a bed and breakfast. Now that our daughter has moved out, the lower part of the house is empty and I am excited to share our great house and yard with other people. We still travel extensively but when we are home, we are looking forward to meet our guests.
