The appartment is located in a great area of LA but it hasn't been deeply cleaned for years!! It looks fancy in the pictures but for us it wasn't at all... You should know this before renting it.
Exactly as its named: the perfect little beach studio. Short walk to the beach and close enough to the pier and restaurants to walk as well. Looks just like the pictures and is perfect for a couple to stay in. Travis was very accommodating as far as arrival time and even let us keep the parking pass for most of the day after check out, as our flight home was later that night.
Location is key for this studio - you couldn't be closer to the beach without paying extortionate hotel prices!
Travis was great at answering our questions when we arrived later than expected and gave us a few tips for the local area which was great.
This was a great location for a Santa Monica getaway. A very short walk to the beach, right around the corner from Main Street and great restaurants. The famed Santa Monica Pier is also a short walk in one direction, and Venice Beach is in the other. Although parking is available we decided not to rent a car for this vacation. We took a taxi from the airport and stayed for 3 days and never wanted to leave the area. Travis is a great host. Our luggage was lost for 24 hours and he gave us great advice on where to pick up inexpensive necessities. He also gave us some great restaurant recommendations. While not fancy, the studio itself is comfortable and is well equipped , and has plenty of room for 2 people. We even had another couple over for cocktails with no problem. We have stayed in other airbnb studios where you couldn't sit more than two people. We were a bit concerned about no sink in the bathroom, but it really wasn't an issue at all. If you are looking for a great location in Santa Monica this studio is an excellent choice.
The studio was great! We didn't spend a lot of time indoors as there was so much to experience in the area. Of course the greatest thing was the location, with only a block away from the beach it couldn't get any better! Travis was very flexible and we were able to check in earlier on arrival. He also let us store our luggage in his house after checkout when our flight didn't leave before nightfall.
We would love to stay here again!
Great stay at Travis's studio. As many reviewers have said before, the location is beyond perfect - only one block from the beach, with a couple of great independent coffee shops around the corner for a yummy breakfast. The space is great and super functional - we only stayed for 2 nights in L.A. this time but if we ever have to come back we would book this place again, even for a week or more. There is plenty of storage (fantastic Ikea storage unit in the bedroom area) and we never felt cramped even though there were 3 of us (me, my hubby and our almost 4 year old daughter). Some people have mentioned the slight mildew smell - yes, true, but in a seaside converted garage what do you expect? It's really not that bad. Someone also mentioned that things are a bit shabbier and more run-down than in the pictures - that's true too, I assume the pics were taken when Travis had just renovated the space, so the rugs are a bit worn out and the paint not as brilliantly fresh but really this was not an issue at all for us, it just felt homy and lived-in. We felt at home, super comfortable and really lucky to have found this laid-back gem of a place. Not having a sink in the bathroom was no big deal - then again we did not cook at all, I imagine it may become more problematic if you need to brush your teeth and you have dirty dishes in the sink, but how likely are you to cook with all the cool restaurants within a few blocks distance? We walked everywhere and when we had to go a bit further we used Uber - a ride to the Santa Monica Boulevard area was a mere $4.90. When we arrived we lucked out and found a parking spot right around the corner and thanks to Travis's parking permit we just left the our there the entire duration of our stay, no need to move it. Awesome. The bathroom is small but functional with a lot of shelf space for toiletries. The shower has great water pressure which I loved - even if we tried to limit our shower time due to the drought in CA. Hubby and I are on the 6 feet / 190 lbs range so getting in the shower was a bit tricky (only 1 of the sliding doors slides open) but once in, the shower size is perfectly adequate. Super easy check-in and check-out process. All in all, we loved the place and would not hesitate to come back.
About the Host, Travis
Originally from South Africa, I moved to Santa Monica for the sun and surf.
I can let you know about all the hidden gems of Santa Monica or just provide a great place to stay.
Always preferring to stay in rental homes than hotels when traveling, I've really enjoyed sharing my beach abode with travelers.
