  • This place is hard to leave. The pictures give an idea of this little heaven, but it is so much more. There is a smile on my face as I think back. Met at the airport with a smile and great service. Cleaners came in daily but never an intrusion. I had some laundry done and was very impressed with the care and detail taken. The location is as near perfect for Ubud as you can find. As a first experience of Bali, I'm hooked and highly recommending this great accommodation. The villa is bright, intimate, welcoming. Loved the pool, the shower, the Bale, long leisurely breakfast on the upstairs deck, loved the whole experience. A short walk to the center of the town and all that Ubud has to offer. On the way to the central town, there is a very narrow road on a small hill that needs care, watch the traffic but the drivers are generally slow and smiling. There are excellent food options very close, at least 6 eateries within 5 minutes, Im sure there are more to be discovered. Look out for the artisans at the roadside. Hand painting of Batik just a few doors away, such a pleasure to see true skill. Lovely. A number of scooter hire options are at the doorstep and I would recommend this. I loved the ease and freedom of the scooters. To the north of Ubud, the glorious, luminous green hills, covered in working rice paddies. Endless temples and local villages. In Ubud there is good live music, even sang with a band (badly) . I wont forget the villa or Ubud for a very long time. I only hope I can go back soon. So much more to see.

  • Catherine's place was a great place to spend our time in Bali. Private, secure and colourful describes it!

Loved the plunge pool after long and hot days of exploring the countryside.
Though it is a 20 min walk from central Ubud, it is located in a great village (Penestanan) that has a mix of restaurants, bars and yoga/new age activities. Definitely check out the Yellow Flower restaurant and Alchemy for delicious salads.

Ketut is also a wonderful host. He picked us up at the airport and was very helpful for anything we desired.

Definitely a great option for those wanting some Balinese spirit, peace and relaxation! Would stay again!!

  • Catherine's villa was so wonderful that we decided to come back again during our stay in Bali! The villa is located just outside of the centre of Ubud, away from the bustling streets and a bit more into nature which was really nice. If you're there for yoga, you might want to rent a scooter as it is about a 40 minute walk to the yoga barn, but it is completely doable on foot. There is also a great raw restaurant about a 2 minute walk away making it really convenient to get breakfast on your way into town.
From the moment we had booked, our experience with Catherine, and her house manager, Ketut was great. He met us at the airport, and helped us settle into the villa; he was so accommodating during our entire stay.
    I highly recommend this villa.

  • Villa Kebun Damai (peaceful garden) is lovely, as you can see from the photographs. It is beautifully designed, and perfect for a couple or a family. We really enjoyed the treehouse feeling of sleeping upstairs, spending the evenings lounging on the porch. In the mornings, we loved waking up to the view of the trees and the sounds of nature all around us.

The villa is located just off the main road in Penestanan. This makes transportation convenient, and it is easy to walk to various businesses and restaurants. It is also an easy walk into the rice paddies, where you can find gorgeous views and lovely spots like Yellow Flower Cafe and Lala & Lili's Warung and more. The Champuan steps are about a 10 or 15 minute walk away if you want to head down to Ubud town that way. All in all the location is quite convenient.

Catherine is a great host, and she is very responsive. We encountered a problem at the beginning of our stay, and she was very quick to help us work everything out. The staff is equally responsive and very considerate. We really appreciated everything that they did to help us have a relaxing and enjoyable visit.

Ketut, who manages the property, can also recommend people to help with other services. When we wanted to head out for a day trip, he put us in touch with his friend Ketut (a different Ketut) who is a great driver and a very nice guy. We then met Driver Ketut's wife, Wayan, who used to be a cook at Sari Organik. We invited her to come to the villa to cook with us, and we learned how to make some delicious Balinese dishes. The kitchen at the villa has everything you need to make wonderful food, and we really enjoyed the experience. It was much more personal than a lesson at a cooking school, and we really enjoyed our conversations with Ketut & Wayan.

We enjoyed our stay, and we left relaxed and well rested, which was our only goal. We love Penestanan, and we would definitely return for another visit.

Tip: If you come during the rainy season, be sure to pack light pajamas as it can get cold at night. You may also want to bring a small umbrella to have on you at all times since the weather in unpredictable. Don't let the rainy season deter you, though - we enjoyed plenty of sunshine during our stay in January 2014!

  • We just got back from 8 days in Catherine's beautiful house. We can not praise it enough. It is beautifully exotic, romantic and private. The sounds of the wild are ever present, yet you feel very safe and protected. It is just outside the busy parts of Ubud, yet you walk there in 5-10 minutes. There is a host of breakfast, lunch and dinner places almost at the door, our favourites were The Round Bar, Alchemy, Sari Organik and Sri Rahti.
Catherine's house is a slice of paradise. Go if you can.

  • The villa was absolutely beautiful and in a less busy area of Ubud- but not too far from all the fun. I stayed there for 4 nights for my honeymoon in Bali. The villa gets cleaned daily, so it was always nice and clean. The plunge pool was one of my favorite features of the house- great for cooling off after a hot day out! Ketut, the house manager, was helpful and provided great service. I highly recommend staying here if you're looking for a private villa in Ubud.

  • I had a wonderful stay at Catherine's (website hidden)'s so beautiful and relaxing. All the little things around like the outdoor bathroom, swimming pool,2 hammocks and so much more..make it perfect!
It's very clean and I felt more than safe. There are some lovely restaurants around and anything else you need. Ketut, the house manager is amazing. He drove me whereever I wanted to go at any time of the day. I would definitely return and highly recommend it :)

  • The Villa was lovely and just like the photos. The plunge pool was very refreshing and the bathroom delightful with its garden and the shower in the stone wall. The upstairs bedroom is really lovely with a balcony outside.
The frogs at night were very loud, but that's to be expected near rice paddies!
The staff were good and the manager Ketut was happy to do whatever was needed to make my stay enjoyable including a trip to the rice terraces.
Although it was a walk into Ubud itself and the road is narrow through Penestanan, there were plenty of taxis available and the cafes in the area were lovely and within easy walking distance including Sari Organik, Alchemy and Cafe Kue.
I think it would be the perfect place for a honeymoon.

  • Catherine's place is a charming house hidden back off the street and not far to the center of Ubud. We rented a scooter, and it made for a great home base. It's clean, serviceable, and features a very unique (and nice) bathroom! Only drawback for us was the proximity to other houses. They are packed in tight (which is the way in this part of the world), and unfortunately for us there was a very loud talker next door who provided the soundtrack for much of our time in the villa. In the end, though our stay may not have been as tranquil as we would have liked, we enjoyed the property very much. One last thing: I'm someone who needs Internet when I travel, and it worked well during my stay.
