Bunty and Rory's place is really beautiful. The little house is tastefully decorated and the extension gardens are a haven. It's well equipped with everything you could need, including a cat. It´s spacious enough to house 4 comfortably. Bunty and Rory were great hosts and made me feel really at home. They are lovely people and helped me a lot in various ways during my stay in Trinidad!! I am truly grateful!
Bunty & Rory are great hosts. They showed us through their pottery studio and their sculptural pieces are beautiful. The cottage we had for 3 days was lovely and the view was so peaceful. We enjoyed the resident cat LULU and DINGO their dog who were very friendly. Bunty & Rory helped us get taxis and groceries locally. We walked through their extensive garden surrounded by colourful flowers and we discovered many of their handmade pottery pieces among the trees and bushes. Our stay was a very enjoyable experience. We also visited the CARONI BIRD SANCTUARY to witness the huge flocks of RED IBIS flying in at sunset to settle in a dead tree on one island. A breathtaking experience! Ajoupa Garden Cottage is well worth a visit if you are in the area south of Port of Spain.
Bunty and Rory were fabulous hosts. They offer a peaceful paradise with engaging conversations. We enjoyed their company. May we return one day. Loved Lulu also. It was a cozy addition to the cottage.
Lovely warm people in a lovely warm location! Can't recommend both Bunty & Rory enough! Had a lovely stay with them.
Ajoupa Cottage is a slice of paradise! The views are even more beautiful in real life and the cottage is really well maintained. We loved having Lou Lou (the cat) around and miss her loads now we've left! Rory and Bunty were wonderful hosts and very helpful with advice about good things to see around the island. Like other reviews, we would recommend renting a car as the cottage is a little out of the way so we liked having the freedom to get up and go wherever we wanted. The roads aren't as bad as people say, just watch out for pot holes! Don't plan too much of your trip before you get there as Rory and Bunty know all sorts of out of the way places that are great to see!
We loved our visit and will definitely be coming back when we can!
As other guests have already commented, Rory and Bunty are the perfect hosts, kind, helpful and knowledgeable about the island. Staying in the cottage is a back to nature experience. You tend to go to bed early and get up early to the cock's crow and the cat's miaow. It's good to rent a car, so you can explore the island, though Rory knows a local driver if you'd rather be driven than experience the erratic local driving.
I can't say enough good things about our stay. The cottage is a great and comfortable place to stay. Rory and Bunty have done a great job of creating a tropical oasis.
Rory was a generous host and made our experience in Trinidad better then we could have imagined. We feel like we made a new friend. We plan to visit again and of course we will be staying at the Ajoupa Cottage.
My wife and I really enjoyed our stay with Bunty and Rory. It felt more like we were family friends than guests. Rory picked us up from the airport and we were shown all over their property. They even took us on a tour around the area to show us some of the environmental problems facing the region. It made for an interesting lesson on Trinidad that we really appreciated. The cottage itself was wonderful, the perfect retreat. And Shammy, the driver Rory recommended us for day trips, was perhaps the best "driver" (more of a tour guide) we've ever had anywhere in the world. We would definitely recommend Ajoupa to anyone visiting Trinidad.
A real treasure of a find! An amazing place full of beauty and peace. The perspective of the deck of the cottage gives an airiness and great place to sit to soak up the atmosphere. Bunty and Rory could not have been more helpful or kind and nothing was too much trouble. If you want to experience a real piece of rural Trinidad this is the place to come. If returning to Trinidad it would be one of our first ports of call!
Our time at Ajoupa could not have been better. The cottage is charming, comfortable and felt like home the moment we arrived. The setting is amazingly peaceful - only very rarely did we hear a human sound at all, and spent many hours just gazing out at the countryside. We highly recommend it and hope to be back!
