The space

Located in the hip Highlands neighborhood, this private luxury apartment offers a full kitchen and bath, vaulted ceilings, and master bedroom with queen size bed. Character, charm and convenience in Louisville, KY. Come and stay awhile.

The treetop apartment is filled with skylights and has its own rooftop deck. It has a staircase up to the apartment that is sturdy and quite lovely. It's an easy five-minute walk to dozens (really, we mean dozens) of coffee shops, restaurants, pubs, and art galleries. You're also close to Cherokee Park and on the edge of downtown Louisville. This home was built in the 1880s for a steamboat captain on the Ohio River. Heart of pine floors, exposed brick chimneys, air conditioning, full-size refrigerator, microwave, smoothtop electric range and fully equipped kitchen.

Separate living room features full-size sofa, books and board games, 40-inch flatscreen TV with Blu Ray player, cable TV, Amazon TV, Netflix and other streaming channels for all your favorite movies and shows.

Two traditional beds, one pillow-top queen and one double. Additional guests sleep on foldout futon.

Wake up in the morning, relax on your treetop deck, then walk to breakfast at a local restaurant or coffee shop (see our guide book for details). Return in the evening for drinks and dinner, and shopping at art galleries and boutiques. The Original Highlands neighborhood is a mecca for eclectic and independent local culture. This apartment is just two blocks from the Baxter Avenue and Bardstown Road corridors, which include Molly Malone's, O'Shea's, Wick's Pizza, Jack Fry's, Quill's Coffee, Holy Grale, Heine Bros Coffee, and much more.
We love hosting guests in Louisville, whether it's one day, a week, or longer.

Check out our Guidebook for our suggestions on local (and mostly walkable) drinks and eats.

Our neighborhood is full of charm and character. Expect big Victorian style houses, big trees and many areas to get pleasantly lost. The space is located on the TOP floor of our home. So, there are stairs to climb to get there. We are always happy to help carry luggage if we are home. Additionally, there are some steep angles in the apartment but we think it adds to the charm. And if you don't want charm its probably better to stay in a hotel, right?

Make sure to read the house info that comes after you book. It has all the info you need.

Get around on foot, ride the public bus called TARC with several stops close to the house, take a cab or use Uber. All parking in this area of the city is on the street but free. It is safe and usually easy to find a spot.

Guest access

Check-in and Check-out is 100 percent self-serve, day or night. Jen will provide a code for the lock box on the door to the third-floor deck.

Jen and Alex are true hosts; hidden unless needed. When needed, graciously available. And the third-story apt is spacious and well-equipped. Location is genius. Boom!

A lovely loft studio getaway positioned within a nice quaint neighborhood. I felt super safe and only a few mins within downtown. It's stairs up to the third floor, nothing strenuous, unless you have health issues. The place is done tastefully inside and the sunlights provide plenty of natural illumination. The bathroom is pretty small and the ceilings are pretty low, FYI, for taller people. Also, the air conditioning is window units only. We checked in on a hot day and it was unbearable. The units were set for 75. We turned them down and left immediately. I suggest messaging the host about turning them down before your arrival.

Response from Jen & Alex:
Thanks for the feedback Allen. We have never had a complaint about the a/c working for the space. With the temp fluctuations it is difficult to get it right for each person.

I had another great stay at Jen & Alex's place. My 2nd time staying. Quiet attic apt with a nice deck. Very close to highlands night life but far enough away for peace & quiet. Also very short drive to downtown and NuLu. A/Cs work great. Comfortable bed, comfortable living room. A bit outdated bathroom but perfectly functional. Nice kitchen. Easy & quick communication with Jen. Great stay.

Outstanding location. Really cool little place. Was perfect for my husband's quick work trip. Great restaurants nearby (Holy Grale and Gralehaus was a highlight).

This treetop apartment is located in a wonderful neighborhood of Louisville. It is walking distance from Germantown and is literally a couple blocks away from a thriving nightlife area with many affordable college-style restaurants and one of the best beer taverns -the Holy Grale- we have ever been to (and we are from Cleveland where we take brewing seriously). The apartment is very thoughtfully put together. There is oatmeal and coffee for breakfast, a full kitchen, even tonic water in the fridge, The directions on how to use the place are clearly marked on a placard. The outside deck is lined with lights for use at night and is in full sun in the morning for your coffee. The bed is very comfortable. We also found that Jen and Alex got back to us very quickly with our questions. This is a solid place, and the hosts are clearly proud of what they do and have taken it seriously.

We are happy to have the chance to host folks in our home! We have lived in the Highlands neighborhood of Louisville since 2003. We love sharing the River City with visitors. We are happy to give advice about where to eat, drink, and play (climb, bike, run, camp, yoga) in Kentucky and Southern Indiana.
