Treetop Apt in Magical Victorian

House - Entire home/apt · Rubel Ave, Louisville, KY 40204, United States

Located in the hip Highlands neighborhood, this private luxury apartment offers a full kitchen and bath, vaulted ceilings, and master bedroom with queen size bed. We are proud to be the #1 most reviewed Airbnb site in Louisville and Kentucky.

The Space

The treetop apartment is filled with skylights and has its own private rooftop deck. It has a brand spankin' new staircase (March 2014) up to the apartment that is sturdy and quite lovely. It's an easy five-minute walk to dozens (really, we mean dozens) of coffee shops, restaurants, pubs, and art galleries. You're also close to Cherokee Park and on the edge of downtown Louisville. This home was built in the 1880s for C.C. Langhart, a steamboat captain on the Ohio River. Heart of pine floors, exposed brick chimneys, air conditioning, full-size refrigerator, microwave, smoothtop electric range and fully equipped kitchen.

Separate living room features full-size sofa, books and board games, desk and chair, 40-inch flatscreen TV with Blu Ray player, cable TV and streaming Netflix for all your favorite movies. Guests must be able to navigate multiple flights of stairs to reach third floor (36 steps in all!). Some of these stairs are steep, but once you reach the top you are truly in the trees. There are two traditional beds, one queen and one full size. Additional guests sleep on air mattresses or the foldout futon.

Wake up in the morning, relax on your treetop deck, then walk to breakfast at one of numerous local restaurants or coffee shops. Return in the evening for drinks and dinner, and shopping at art galleries and boutiques. The Original Highlands neighborhood is a mecca for eclectic and independent local culture. This apartment is just two blocks from the Baxter Avenue and Bardstown Road corridors, which include Molly Malone's, O'Shea's, Wick's Pizza, Jack Fry's, Wild and Wooly, Quill's Coffee, Holy Grale, Heine Bros Coffee, and much more.
We love hosting visitors to Louisville, whether it's one day or a week or longer. Our guests have come from across the United States, as well as Israel, Portugal, Australia, Canada, Columbia, England, Italy, and more.

Bourbon enthusiasts: book a stay of two nights or longer and get a set of four complimentary glasses from Four Roses Distillery. Just mentioned "bourbon glasses" when you book.

  • Fantastic hosts and an outstanding space. Plenty of privacy. Thanks to the guestbook, we discovered The Silver Dollar for one of the best meals (and mezcal cocktails) of our trip. We can't wait to return for a longer stay to explore Louisville.

  • Great spot in a great neighborhood. Price is just right for the space. The patio is a amazing and the bed was very comfortable. Everything as clean or cleaner than a hotel room. Would stay here anytime I am in Lville.

  • The space at Alex & Jen's was perfect for our needs. The unit is clean, spacious and well equipped. Our host provided additional essentials to make our stay comfortable. The home is in a great location for easy access to the university, downtown, dining and outdoor recreational activities. Booking a stay is recommended.

  • The apartment was spacious, clean and stylishly designed with interesting reading/browsing material readily available. Alex was kind with helping us find a temporary parking spot and lending a hand lugging our travel gear from the car. Due to it being a Saturday night when we arrived and the proximity to the busy Bardstown area, there wasn't immediate parking available. But it was quite easy to find a spot nearby within a few minutes. My husband knocked his noggin on the pointy edged ceilings during the night a couple times, something we were warned about on the welcome sheet -- oops! Jen quickly agreed to our last minute request to extend our check out time so that we'd be able to explore a great breakfast place -- Hillbilly Tea. Thanks Jen!
The only slight disappointment was that the back deck and play area for our daughter were not available due to it being renovated. That said, the apartment had everything you could need and we'd be happy to stay there again.

  • What a cute little hideaway! The apartment was stocked and clean when we arrived. We had to walk through the house due to the construction in the back but everything was marked and Jen communicated well on how we should get in. The bed was really comfortable too! We had a great time in Louisville, I would definitely stay here again.

  • Jen & Alex have a really great apartment that feels totally separate from their house. They actually saved me and my husband when we were arriving late in Louisville and we are SO glad we stayed with them. The neighborhood was awesome. Coffee right around the corner and tons of places to eat and hang out. We will definitely be back next time we are in town!

  • We had a great stay in Jen and Alex's beautiful Victorian. The treetop apartment is cozy, clean, and well-equipped (I was glad to have an ironing board and iron, for example). It was easy to stay in touch with our hosts and they were unfailingly helpful and understanding.

  • Jen & Alex were very helpful before and during our trip. When I tried to contact them, they would almost immediately reply, so that was very much appreciated.

The apartment was in a great location close to all the Bardstown establishments and on-street parking was a breeze. We loved the space too! All the furniture was very comfortable and the Netflix/TV set up in the living room was nice too. It was nice to have access to a basic kitchen.

Overall, a great experience. I would recommend staying here!

We are happy to have the chance to host folks in our home! We have lived in the Highlands neighborhood of Louisville since 2002, and love sharing the River City with visitors. We are also happy to give advice about where to eat, drink, and play (climb, bike, run, camp, yoga) in Kentucky and Southern Indiana.
