About This Listing
Durhamstown is a Norman Castle date 1420. Its a fascinating building with vaulted rooms - the current Kitchens, as well as Georgian extensions. Its a protected structure. We started Ireland's first Home / Castle Restaurant in July which has proved a great success! When we heard of Airbnb - we thought what a good fit for us.
We describe our style as shabby/chic it is a family home as well as a Monument! It is very rural, yet Dublin is a mere 30 minutes away (there's a bus service from the town centre to Dublin every 30 minutes) if some Razzmatazz and Culture is required! Meath is full of Historic and Prehistoric remains as well as Riding, Fishing and Hunting. There are some lovely walks either on the Beaches or in the Woods. Our local town has some great Pubs with a very a fine Art Centre, The Solstice. For some local colour The Causey Farm is a must-you learn to dance a jig and bake bread-proper Irish Craic! And of course - the best till last - we run the Posh Nosh Club, so an exciting Dinner Party every Friday!! (website hidden)
We have 6 double rooms in total. You can either book a room of your choice or the whole castle (please check our other listing). We also rent the Castle for private events like Wedding Buffets, Christmas Parties, etc.
This is a VERY old House so needs "gentling" along!
The Furniture is Largely Antique so rowdy dancing on table tops is not recommended!
Try the Floor in the Kitchen, its flagged-perfect for doing the Highland Fling.
We've had wonderful parties here and it really comes alive with lots of people.
The rules are presumably what all Grown-ups do; clean up after you, respect other peoples property and for Goodness sakes-Enjoy!!
The Prince's Room. Prince Michael of Greece & Denmark slept here with his Armenian grandson.
We enjoyed our stay at "the longest continuously lived in castle in Ireland". It's clearly a much loved, family centered home with both modern touches as well as aspects which remind one that the home is really a castle. Sue and Dave were great hosts, excellent cooks, and very knowledgeable about the area. We had planned to travel to Dublin for some additional sightseeing but found that the incredibly ancient sights throughout the county were too interesting to leave given our limited time in Ireland. If you are interested in seeing for yourself some of the oldest evidence of human evolution and want to stay in a friendly, homey atmosphere, we suggest booking with the Pricketts in Meath County.
Thank you Sue and Dave for the fantastic night in the castle, for your warm welcome and the care you take of your guests. The bedroom is lovely, the dinner delicious, we really enjoyed sharing it with you and our interesting conversations.
Looking forward to coming again !
Me and my family stayed at Sue’s and David’s for two nights as B&B guests.
It was simply wonderful! Our hosts welcomed us like we were their long lost relatives, and we all felt as if we were visiting our family – a family we just hadn't met before! We loved sharing meals with them while solving the world's problems. :)
Everything was outstanding, from the fresh flowers in our bedrooms and the generous breakfast, to the gourmet dinner to celebrate my husband’s 40th birthday – a meal our hosts shared with us to our great pleasure. The castle itself and the surroundings is beyond description - it has to be experienced.
So if you are looking for a very special and very enjoyable experience when going to Ireland – you should definitely contact Sue and David.
I should add that we, travelers without a car, had no problems whatsoever getting to the Castle via bus from Dublin Airport to Navan and taxi the few kilometres from there.
We had such an incomparable blend of relaxation and inspiration when we spent the weekend with Sue and Dave at Durhamstown. They hosted us like their family, and their house is so very interesting, tasteful and storied. We are so grateful and are looking forward to visiting you again and catching up. Glad to have crossed paths.
Hi Brian, it was really good! We just had so many good chats from the trivial to the sublime - all very Patrick Kavanagh.....I think you two have to take a bow as well- you really became "adopted family" for the weekend. Do come (website hidden), the Barn is slowly getting underway! Sue

We really love our guests to feel "they're in their Granny's" when they stay here. (that would be a pretty cool Granny, mind you!) Its a drop- in-have-a-cup-of-coffee- kind of place anyway.
