Durhamstown is a Norman Castle date 1420. Its a fascinating building with vaulted rooms - the current Kitchens, as well as Georgian extensions. Its a protected structure. We started Ireland's first Home / Castle Restaurant in July which has proved a great success! When we heard of Airbnb - we thought what a good fit for us.
We describe our style as shabby/chic it is a family home as well as a Monument! It is very rural, yet Dublin is a mere 30 minutes away (there's a bus service from the town centre to Dublin every 30 minutes) if some Razzmatazz and Culture is required! Meath is full of Historic and Prehistoric remains as well as Riding, Fishing and Hunting. There are some lovely walks either on the Beaches or in the Woods. Our local town has some great Pubs with a very a fine Art Centre, The Solstice. For some local colour The Causey Farm is a must-you learn to dance a jig and bake bread-proper Irish Craic! And of course - the best till last - we run the Posh Nosh Club, so an exciting Dinner Party every Friday!! (website hidden)
We have 6 double rooms in total. You can either book a room of your choice or the whole castle (please check our other listing). We also rent the Castle for private events like Wedding Buffets, Christmas Parties, etc.
We had such an incomparable blend of relaxation and inspiration when we spent the weekend with Sue and Dave at Durhamstown. They hosted us like their family, and their house is so very interesting, tasteful and storied. We are so grateful and are looking forward to visiting you again and catching up. Glad to have crossed paths.
Hi Brian, it was really good! We just had so many good chats from the trivial to the sublime - all very Patrick Kavanagh.....I think you two have to take a bow as well- you really became "adopted family" for the weekend. Do come (website hidden), the Barn is slowly getting underway! Sue
Sue & her wonderful staff were amazing. I can't thank her enough for opening up her house to us for our very special family occasion. The ambience of the castle was such that you felt instantly at ease. Sue and her husband (who we hope to meet one day) had left beautiful breads, sausages & bacon for our breakfasts which went down very well. On the Saturday evening we hosted a special dinner for my parents. The dinning room looked amazing and was only topped by the delicious meal that was served by Sue's staff. It was just perfect.
Thank you Sue. Best Wishes. Lesley, a definite Fan!!!
We absolutely loved staying with Sue and Dave. A very charming place in the country. The history of their place was more than interesting and Sue and Dave were wonderful. We chose to pay the little extra for the dinner with them on our second evening and it was amazing. Fantastic food and great conversational hosts. We will be back, that is certain. Lovely home, beautiful spot for a wonderful stay. It may be a bit out of the way for some guests, but the peaceful setting was perfect for our last two nights in Ireland. We absolutely loved meeting both Sue and Dave
Staying with Sue and Dave in their wonderful castle was more like visiting friends than staying in a B&B. We felt like home away from home and they both were so helpful in organising our trip to the Bon Jovi Concert in Slane. We also got the advice to go to Loughcrew instead of Newgrange which was a fantastic idea! The highlight was the dinner we had together with other guests of the B&B. An evening never to forget! Thanks again to Sue and Dave for beeing such wonderful hosts and say "hello" to the puppies :)
My mother and I stayed at Sue and David's castle for one night and it was a truly wonderful experience. We shared a lovely meal that evening and enjoyed good conversation. The castle is simply spectacular, giving a unique experience away from your typical city and town accommodations. To be far from home yet feel right at home made the experience perfect. Also, their dog Minnie still had two of her puppies when we visited and they were a joy! I highly recommend staying here; it isn't far from Dublin and well worth the trip!
Sue and Dave's castle is only surpassed by their hospitality, great conversation, and cooking. We had an absolutely phenomenal time staying with them and their Jack Russell terrier Minnie, who was nursing five, one week old puppies. The grounds of the castle and surrounding area of County Meath are absolutely gorgeous. Sue and Dave know all of the hidden, off the beaten path places nearby and advised us well to visit Loughcrew. The Prickett's are superb hosts and opting for the extra gourmet meals and wine is well worth it. Dave is also a great musician, and if you're lucky you'll be singing round the table over a never ending flow of wine and great conversation. We look forward to our next return visit.
FOR THE EXPERIENCE OF STAYING IN SUCH AN OLD BUILDING 1420 ALONE, IT WAS WORTH STAYING.
MY ROOM WAS LOVELY & MINNIE THE DOG WAS DELIGHTFUL.
SUE & DAVE ARE REALLY GOOD COOKS & A MEAL & CONVERSATION IS WORTHWHILE.
THERE IS SO MUCH TO DO IN THE AREA, I LOVED THE VILLAGE OF SLANE & COULD EASILY HAVE FILLED ANOTHER 3 DAYS THERE.
The house, forged from a Norman castle, is steeped in history. The kitchen, in the vaulted arches of the old castle, is warm and friendly. The hosts, Sue and Dave, are great cooks. The company at the supper table, talking of fox hunting and country auctions, was a refreshing change from London.
