The Space

Ground floor apartment (not the basement) of our Brooklyn brownstone/townhouse. The house was built in 1898 and has lots of beautiful original details. Free WiFi included as well as Coffee/tea with a Keurig Platinum Brewing system.

The apartment has one large bedroom with a Queen size bed and a double fold out sleeper couch. The small bedroom is really just for sleeping and has a twin size bed and another pull-out twin size bed trundle underneath. Please see photos.

A few blocks to Prospect Park with beautiful walks, great for jogging or cycling. The Audubon Center is right there by the Lake with Boat Rides and many playgrounds for children. At the Prospect Park tennis center, there are always courts available by the hour. Prospect park also hosts the famous Drummers Circle and New York's large farmers market on weekends.

Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Botanical Garden, Brooklyn Zoo, and the Brooklyn Public Library are all within a 15 minute walk. 20 minutes by subway to Manhattan.

Children 10 and older are welcome.

The kitchen has a 4 ring gas stovetop, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, kettle and all the utensils needed. There is, however no oven at this time. The TV is connected to the internet and a DVD player, and the basic TV stations

Interaction with Guests

We live in the same house upstairs, but this apartment is private with its own entrance, kitchen, bathroom. We generally leave our guests alone, but are always there if there is anything.

The Neighborhood

We live in a lovely landmark protected neighborhood. All the houses were built in the late 1800s and very well taken care of. It's a little like Sesame street, with stoops where people hang out and chat with one another.

Getting around

a few blocks from the B and Q express trains. 2 stops to the Barclays Center, 4 stops to Chinatown, 5 to Union Square.

Other Things to Note

We are a photographer and painter, and may of our artwork pieces are on the walls in the apartment. We live upstairs with our 2 teenage kids and 2 labrador retrievers.

  • We loved Sylvia and Andre's apartment. It's airy, bright and beautifully decorated. Comfortable beds, lovely linens, well-equipped kitchen. It's a ground floor apartment but definitely not a "basement". A quiet historic neighborhood with fun little ethnic restaurants and shops just a block away. Prospect Park and subway just a few minutes walk. Hosts were wonderful. I hope to stay there again on our next trip.

  • Sylvia was fantastic host - so friendly and accomodating. Our party size shrunk down from 4 to 2, and she was gracious enough to reduce our bill without us even asking her to do so..
We stayed in the basement of her brownstone, and it was plenty big enough for the two of us. Four would also fit comfortably. Her place was decorated with some of her paintings which were beautiful. She's talented!
Only reason I'm not rating the stay a "five" is due to cleanliness. It was clean and probably cleaner than any hotel in the area; a little more scrubbing in the bathroom, and I would have rated the stay a "five".
Overall, a wonderful experience. I wouldn't hestitate to stay again.

  • I highly recommend Sylvia's place to stay. It has plenty of room, it's ultra cute with lovely features and paintings, as you can see from the pics and has everything you need. Plus the hosts are accommodating and helpful. The house is on a quaint street and walking distance to the subway.
    I could live here!

  • Sylvia and her husband Andre were warm and wonderful. They were very understanding when my parents arrived late and communication with them was easy. I would definitely book again.

  • The hosts were very welcoming and supportive throughout our stay. They helped to give us information about the area.

The street is quiet and people were really friendly.

    The shower was fab.

We didn't realize, from the initial information that the flat was on the ground floor, level with the street.

  • We saw Sylvia's beautiful apartment at the last minute. We were looking to move into the apartment the same day. They responded to our request immediately and was extremely helpful! When we arrived the apartment looked exactly like in the photos! It is a few blocks away from the subway, and direct line to manhattan which was convient. The neighborhood is nice and friendly. Overall we had a great stay and they were great hosts!
