My husband and I enjoyed a 3 night stay at Jean-Marc's apartment in Covent Garden. The apartment is very comfortable with a lovely outdoor rooftop area to enjoy as well. It is situated in a great area of London with public transport, theatres, Royal Opera House, cafes, restaurants and pubs all at your doorstep. Jean-Marc was very helpful and responded immediately to any of our requests
Staying at Jean-Marc's penthouse studio was overall an average experience. Initially, I was a little concerned with the small window given for check in. Jean-Marc required that we give an arrival time and stated that if we did not arrive within 30 minutes of the arrival time we would be charged 20 GBP.
Once we arrived, we found the flat to be in good shape. The location was perfect, the studio was clean, and the amenities were reasonable (towels and sheets were provided, though bring your own shampoo and soap).
My biggest issue with staying at the flat was the appearance of smells during our stay. On the second night, there was a smell of cigarette smoke that came from our bathroom (likely from a lower floor). On the third night, a smell of trash/sewage/dead animal infiltrated the flat. The smell was so strong that we needed to leave a window open all night and run a fan to control the odor and get to sleep. I understand this is likely a one-time event (and it occurred the night before our departure so it is impossible to judge Jean-Marc's response), but it definitely took away from our experience in the flat.
Overall, the experience was good, but not great.
Thank you for your comment. I am a little saddened by your remarks. It is the first time since the many years of renting my apartment that I read such an unenthusiastic review. I, therefore, need to correct some inaccuracies for future guests.
Arrival time is extremely flexible as long as it is communicated in advance. You must understand, too, that the house manager has to be informed of any delays as soon as possible. Waiting time is expensive in a city like London and employees are busy.
I am surprised that you did not use or see any of the many bottles of soap provided in the bathroom, the kitchen and in the cupboards underneath both sinks in the kitchen and shower room. Soap is definitively provided. Shampoo is not; some guests have no need of it or require their own special brand.
I am very sorry about the smell that came from a broken vent at the bottom of the building. This was resolved as soon as you informed me.
I apologize for any inconvenience you might have had during your stay but hope that you will keep a good memory of your time in London.
Nice cosy apartment with a superb location. OK for this time of the year but during wintertime, I expect that you will suffer from old windows and terrace-door.
This is the 2nd time I've stayed in this flat, and it was lovely as usual. Fantastic location and on sunny days the terrace is gorgeous!!! Highly recommended oasis in the centre of Covent Garden.
Received clear instructions on how to get to the apartment. The cleaning service staff was there to receive us and pass us the keys. My friend and I each got a set of keys so we could return to the apartment at different times if we wanted to.
The apartment is exactly as it is in the photos. Beautiful and clean. Loved the terrace. Jean-Marc provided us with coffee and tea as well. Very responsive, because for some reason we couldn't get the hairdryer working, but Jean-Marc got the same lady who welcomed us to looked at it and it was fine that same day!
Location is perfect, walking distance between Holborn and Covent Garden Underground stations.
Studio is well-sized for two people. Lots of space for each of us to layout our luggage and lots of shopping.
Highly recommend this apartment for anyone who wants to stay in a central location in London.
The apartment was comfortable to live in and in an excellent area; within walking distance to everywhere we wanted to go to. There was plenty of storage space in the apartment and the host prepared towels etc. for us to use. The only downsides to living in this space were that we had to carry our suitcases up a few flights of stairs to get to the penthouse studio, and that the wind outside at night is extremely loud.
Thank you for your kind comments. I am sorry that your stay happened during near gale winds in London. This is a rare occasion. However being on the fifth floor in the Penthouse the sound can be a little louder that on the more protected lower floors. It is, however, the first time this is mentionned to me in over my 15 years of renting. The site clearly indicates that the lift stops at the third floor and that two flights of stairs needs to be taken to reach the Penthouse Studio.
