Our guests have 100% privacy and full access to everything inside the Retama. The front porch — with the awesome view of the Hemisfair Tower — is shared.

Please remember that you’re staying in a house, not a hotel. Please treat the space with respect. If any problems arise, we will do our best to take action ASAP, but there is no one living on-site 24/7.

— KIDS —
We love kids! Our neighborhood is full of them, and there are tons of parks and other activities for families within walking distance or a short drive. Please consider downloading the “OUR KIDS” app that is a calendar-based, well-organized wealth of info about family activities for children of all ages. We have a pack n’ play and a folding booster seat tucked away in the bedroom closet, as well as a selection of safe toys.

— PETS —
Furry guests are always welcome, and we strive to make them feel special too. Complimentary doggie amenities include an adjustable, orthopedic dog bed; stainless steel dog bowls and a silicone placemat; a few toys; a spare leash; a doggie blanket; doggie walk bags; and a microfiber towel for muddy paws. Please see the house rules for more details and info about pet fees.

— GIVING BACK —
Following my son's diagnosis of Williams Syndrome — we decided to give as much as we could to the Williams Syndrome Association [WSA]. A percentage of our bookings are donated directly to the WSA and we order as many of our supplies as possible from Smile.Amazon.com with the Williams Syndrome Association as our charity of choice.

— RECYCLING —
We are committed to recycling, so we provide a separate recycling bin inside our homes specifically for your clean paper, plastics, cans, and bottles. Our guests have been so supportive that we recently to reduced the size of our black trash bins and are saving money! The blue bins outside are for recycling.

— SAVING ENERGY & WATER —
We have installed wall, attic & crawl space insulation; LED lighting; Water Sense plumbing fixtures; Energy Star appliances and ceiling fans; light & heat blocking curtains; and we participate in the community energy saving programs offered by the utility companies.

Neighborhood highlights

Originally built in 1904, the Retama is a 600 sqft, fully-renovated and updated historic bungalow situated in San Antonio’s oldest historic district — Lavaca. At the turn of the century, residents of Lavaca were primarily middle class, German immigrants.

Today, Lavaca is still as vibrant and diverse as it was one hundred years ago — revealing a patchwork of colorful homes as unique as the people living in them. Over the past few years, I’ve had a hard time keeping track of all the new coffee houses, restaurants, revived breweries, unique shops, art galleries, and parks that have opened. I encourage everyone to check out Yelp! and Trip Advisor for updated recommendations to help guide their San Antonio adventures!
