Interaction with Guests

We enjoy meeting our guests and have had great experiences chatting in the evenings. We've also had guests who prefer to stay in their room or hang out alone by the pool. We follow your lead.

The Neighborhood

La Quinta has a 'dark skies' ordinance which means we do not have city lighting -- makes it nice for star watching from the hot tub. We offer a flash light if you want to walk at night. There is a very nice walking/biking trail a block away. We are also close to great public tennis.
Our neighborhood can be very quiet especially late at night when you can enjoy the quiet of the desert. We are a five minute drive to the top of the cove for great hiking where you can really hear the silence. Our neighborhood can also be noisy at times. There are kids on the street and our neighbors sometimes have parties. But there is a 10:00 p.m. noise ordinance so things usually quiet down by midnight even on the noisy nights.

Check In
  • Bobbie and John were wonderful hosts. We were there for Coachella and they were very accommodating to our late schedules. Their house is charming and setup was perfect with a lovely backyard patio area for breakfast and relaxation by the pool. Great experience!

  • Bobbie and John have an airbnb in a small town in the Palm Springs area (La Quinta) and we feel it is rather an ideal example of what airbnb "properties" aspire to: being in a convenient location in a family home with warm and interesting hosts, and with the basic amenities that provide stress-free "comings and goings."

The Spanish style home itself is historic--it was once owned by 30's Western movie star Tom Mix--which is a fascinating plus. The bedroom offered is spacious with a private bath that looks out onto a petite, attractive garden. There is a pool and hot tub (the latter heated upon request). But most of all (at least to our minds), the hosts are just fascinating people, local college instructors with myriad backgrounds (including stints at UC Berkeley) and their accessible, comfy domicile is replete with books and periodicals you can dive into.

And then there is that big, overtly friendly boxer dog, Winston--now HE really takes the cake (literally, you DO have to watch what you leave around for him to chew on). He just makes himself at home on your lap or at your door. Don't stay here if you hate obnoxious (just kidding!) dogs like Winston, but if you're a dog (or also cat) lover, this is heaven.

We'll definitely be back, and hopefully Bobbie, John (and Winston) will be able to make room for us.

  • It was hard to leave! Bobbie and John are just so accommodating that you forget that you are not in your own home. I was down to cycle with friends, most of who were staying at a hotel. I felt so blessed to be able to come home, have a little chat, and then retire to the quiet of my room. Winston is a great dog ~ and I don't even have a dog. He's truly lovable. Can't wait to return.

  • We had a great 2 night stay at Bobbie and John's casita in La Quinta. The house is very clean and cozy, and the back patio and pool are a really nice place to spend some relaxing time talking...or playing guitar :). Winston the dog is a friendly guy who listens when you tell him to leave you alone-(and what else could you want in a dog???). We will be sure to come back!

  • Bobbie and John are very nice people and welcoming hosts. Their house has old desert charm you don't find many places and is convenient to the village. The bathroom windows on a small garden are very nice. They were very welcoming to us and our dogs! Their dog Winston is a sweetie.

  • Great people with a lovely home I will definitely stay there again

    December 2013
  • This was the first Air BnB experience for me and my daughter. Bobbie and John's little casita was tucked in a desert cove with an old neighborhood feel, surrounding hills, and a quieter feel than the neighboring towns. Our hosts were welcoming and very friendly, offering space and privacy. Bobbie was a great cook and even made us breakfast "to go" our last day. John was a song writer and fabulous musician that didn't hesitate to play guitar. We ripped it up for a couple of hours. They had a friendly, oaf-y, dog (sorry Winston) that might take your slipper, but we like dogs so what can I say! He minded when we told him to behave. The house was an original mid-20th century colonial style casita after a couple of incarnations. It's homey, artistic, charming, and a bit eclectic. I would stay there again in a New York second!

  • Five star hospitality. Very understanding of the odd hours of comings and goings of a music festival.

  • When my mom and I got stuck last minute without a place to stay in the Palm Desert area, I decided to call up Bobbie and John, since I enjoyed their place so much the last time I stayed there. I wasn't even expecting a response, but Bobbie got back to me right away and told me the place would be ready in a few hours even though a guest had just stayed that day. That type of accommodation is incredible.

  • Bobbie and John were wonderful hosts. The accommodations were perfect with plenty of privacy. The grapefruit tree in their backyard was an unexpected bonus. We thoroughly enjoyed our conversations and look forward to staying with them again.
