About this listing
The barn is rustic, cozy and quiet. It has a few quirks, which we have tried to explain as best we can, so we hope it piques the interest of the right guests who can come and enjoy their stay here!
Stay in our cozy, finished apartment in our barn. We are a 5 minute drive from the peaceful beaches of the Chesapeake Bay. Also a short drive away are fun attractions such as the Virginia Beach Oceanfront, Seashore State Park, First Landing State Park, and Downtown Norfolk. We are located in a convenient location for making day trips to Williamsburg, Jamestown, Busch Gardens, etc. Our barn is located behind our charming bungalow on almost an acre of land in a quiet neighborhood. Enjoy views of trees, flowers, and a backyard vineyard. Drink a cup of tea or coffee made in the cute kitchenette while relaxing with a good book! We do not have cable, but have wireless internet as well as AppleTV for watching movies & TV shows. This is a peaceful little treasure to use as your home base for sightseeing in the Hampton Roads area!
Other Things to Note
Friendly dogs are welcome but are subject to a $10 fee per day. This can be paid by altering the reservation with the fees included.
When coming or going, please make sure that you always close the gate properly so that our dog doesn't escape. Her name is Barley and she is very friendly, but might be overly friendly--just a warning! Please park on the street in front of our house.
It is a pretty quiet neighborhood and there is no partying or loud music inside or in the yard (that's what hotel rooms at the Oceanfront are for!).
Small kitchenette has a place to sit, coffee maker, refrigerator, microwave...feel free to ask for anything else that would be helpful during your stay!
Was very pleased with our brief overnight stay. Kara was extremely responsive to our every need and the Craftsman Barn was adorable!
The barn was amazing: cozy and nicely decorated. It had a lot amenities, which reflected the hosts' thoughtfulness. It was in quite neighborhood with plenty of parking and close to the beach and downtown. Also as dog people, we were really excited to meet Barley!
The barn was lovely, clean and comfortable. Great location and nice neighborhood. We really loved the experience. Highly recommended.
Wonderful! This space was just as described, cozy, and clean! Absolutely perfect.
Kara is really friendly and accomodating - we appreciate her understanding for our last minute change. The barn was comfy and spacious. Her dog is also welcolming:)
Kara is a very pleasant young woman. The cottage had snacks and coffee just as described. The neighborhood is very nice and quiet. Unfortunately when we arrived I noticed spiders in the bathroom, I then looked around and the entire space was full of spiders. The rafters had a lot of webs as well. I drove all the way from Ohio and had to find an alternative place to stay with my dogs at the last minute. Kara did indicate that this is an ongoing problem and that it used to be in the description of the rental. I would say that if spiders (not just a few, a lot of spiders) don't bother you then this is still a great place to stay. It is very close to the beach, but away from the resort area if you like quiet. Kara was very good about giving us a refund immediately.
This was our first Airbnb experience, and Kara's space and willingness to accommodate were fantastic!
Kara was quite welcoming and was happy to make (email hidden)e was quick to respond to texts regarding minor questions during our stay. The neighborhood seemed plenty friendly and her dog Barley was very sweet & welcoming (great family dog -- not all dogs can handle "strangers," including another dog, coming in and out of their turf at all times of day/night -- Barley is a champ!)
The description of the location and photos were all quite accurate. It was a nice, well-kept, quiet space (a good alternative to the more... "spirited" beach front hotels!), and we were happy to find clean towels, a microwave, and some basic kitchenware. There were tons of books, maps, and local guides in the barn. We enjoyed the AppleTV (we ran a half marathon in town, so it was really nice to just chill out and watch Netflix the evening before!)
The only downside is that it's not particularly close to any dining/entertainment options....while part of what we loved was the quietness, we do enjoy walking to restaurants, a coffeeshop, etc. This is certainly not anything Kara has any influence over....just something that would have made the location a touch more enjoyable!
Overall it was a great stay. We hope to return again next year!
