LA CASA DI TUFO is a unique medieval palazzo that was built in the 5th century where you can experience the atmosphere of the past yet have all the modern comforts of today. Each room has marvelous views of a private garden and of the medieval part of town. There is a radio in every room as well as private bath with massaging showers and foot massage. There are stone arches, original wooden ceilings and other medieval architectural elements as well as TV and exceptional WIFI access in the living room. The breakfast is a mix of Italian (pastry and cappuccino) and continental (bread, cheese, yogurt, granola, and fruit) but is reserved for short term guests. You have a well equiped kitchen in the apartment.
The house is in the center of Orvieto within a few minutes walking distance to all the famous sights, including the grand Duomo (cathedral) with its famous frescoes of Signorelli, multiple museums, the underground caves, monuments, Etruscan ruins, the famous well of St. Patrick (Pozzo di San Patrizio) as well as many others. If you like archeological places we can organize a guided tour to some Etruscan cemeteries or to the caves of the famous “Fanum Voltumnae,” the most important spiritual Etruscan place, which was discovered in Orvieto after excavations of more than 50 years.
Within Orvieto’s historic center there are many charming intimate restaurants where you can experience delicious authentic Umbrian cuisine which often includes truffles, porcini mushrooms, fresh vegetables, new olive oil and a terrific selection of wines from Umbria and Tuscany.
We have just spent the most wonderful month in Jasmina's apartment in Orvieto. The apartment was warm, comfortable, bright, airy and clean. Jasmina is a warm, kind, helpful host and at all times made us feel very welcome. Orvieto is a delightful hilltop town with narrow cobbled streets, a stunning Duomo and very interesting Etruscan history. It is made accessible to the railway station by the use of a local bus (the Circolare) which goes about every 10 to 15 minutes and takes you to the funicolare which then takes you down to the railways station. If you are staying for any length of time, the marcelleria and panetteria just around the corner from Jasmina's are great and the people very welcoming. The passeggiata is a must and sitting outside the bar Clan Destino, drinking wine, eating their very generous savouries, watching the Orvietans meeting their friends is wonderful. I can recommend the whole experience.
Our apartment in Orvieto at La Casa di Tufo was wonderful. We had everything we needed to live there for a month. The apartment is very well done with lots of light and modern without losing the flavor of the old building. The apartment is on the 4th floor so that you get a view of the roof tops from the upstairs bedroom.
Jasmina is a lovely host. She is fluent in several languages, including English! She was always available and helpful. Jasmina is friendly and makes sure that your stay is comfortable.
I highy recommend La Casa di Tufo for a long or short stay. The rooms of the B&B are lovely as well. Thank you Jasmina for all your kindness. Penny and Flo
After a month at La Casa di Tufo, we felt like we were home. Jasmina and her daughter are charming hostesses and the accommodations were perfect. The rooms are sizable, with modern furnishings and appliances, but the beams, arches and stonework from the medieval building remain exposed. The result is a feeling of modern-day convenience in a 500+-year-old palazzo. The location is a quiet cobblestone street near San Giovenale, the oldest church in Orvieto, close to the Piazza Republica and within very easy walking distance of all the sights. The shared "living room" is a good place to mingle with other guests and to peruse the available books and brochures about the area. This is a great place to stay while visiting one of the most charming towns in Umbria. We are planning a return to La Casa di Tufo next year.
This is an apartment that is part of a bed and breakfast, so you get breakfast, and you have your own apartment complete with kitchen. Great place in a medieval town, very quaint. Loved the food and exploring the town. We took the train there and then the funicular, then the van to their place. Loved it. Very modern inside, very medieval outside. In a narrow alley, that gives you the feel. Stay here, you will love it. Jasmina was very friendly and helpful. Fast Wi-FI
Wow what a gem of a place. Jasmina has an incredible, modern set-up in an historic building. The architecture is wonderful and the renovation into a bed and breakfast is fantastic. We stayed in the upstairs apartment and it was roomy and well appointed. Jasmina's breakfasts are delicious and a delightful way to start the day. We were also given tips on where to visit in the nearby towns and these trips became one of the many highlights of the trip.
Orvieto is a beautiful town with plenty of cafes, restaurants and shops. A wonderful place to stay in Umbria.
Our stay was in la casa's apartment - it was perfect - a wonderful blend of old and new - a part of the old village in style but clean and modern too - we spent over a month here and would love to return - jasmina is a lovely host; friendly, hospitable, and interested in her guests -
The house is located perfectly in the town. The main points of interest are in short walking distance and the house is located in a small and quiet street. We appreciate Jasmina's hospitality and the good breakfast.
The appartment was perfekt for us; two adults and a three year.
We really can recommend the appartment. Also the other rooms looked very neat and comfortable.
Jasmina and Laura are friendly and responsive to your needs. The apartment is amazing and the breakfast tasty.
The B&B and the apartment are at the edge of the centre of Orvieto in a nice quiet street, but still very close to the centre. When we arrived, Jasmina was not there, but fortunately the cleaning lady opened the door and Jasmina's daughter showed us around. At breakfast the next two mornings we met Jasmina, who is very friendly and told us about a nice walk around the city's wall. The apartment is quite big (maybe too big for us two) and would be perfect for parents with (two) children, or four friends. It's all very new and clean.
Located in a narrow street in the mediaeval heart of Orvieto (one of the most beautiful cities in Italy), the ancient, evocative exterior contains an immaculate interior, combining modern facilities and furniture with elements from the original structure. Jasmina is a wonderful, multilingual hostess, the breakfast is delicious; this place is hard to beat!
Tip: Don't expect to be able to park your car in the old town, and unless you're driving something small and have experience in Italian driving, don't even bring it up in the first place. :-) The funicular railway, combined with the local city bus ("il pollicino") in one ticket, is probably the best way up into the town. It also has free parking!
