BRICK LANE
A microcosm of London's shifting ethnic patterns, the area around Brick Lane in East London was once associated with poor slums and the scene of the crime for the Jack the Ripper murders. Whilst the notorious pub Ten Bells still stands, the area itself is now extremely popular with London’s edgy and artistic crowd, featuring galleries, restaurants, markets and festivals throughout the year.

The Old Truman Brewery at 91 Brick Lane houses a vibrant market where up-and-coming designers set up shop every Sunday selling a unique variety of clothes, handbags and jewellery. There are also vintage clothing stores and chic boutiques dotted around the area.

As a hub of London's Bangladeshi community, Brick Lane has always been famed for its many authentic curry restaurants. It now also has a reputation for its warehouse art exhibitions and trendy clubs and bars. So, before your East London experience is complete, be sure to head to the Vibe Bars beer garden or 93 Feet East (150 Brick Lane) which has become an East End institution well known for its eclectic mix of live music and intimate atmosphere.

A really vibrant area with so much to do when you are not busy out there shopping.

I REALLY RECOMMEND A LOOK AT THIS ROOM AS IT’S A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE.

  • Very satisfied, nice room in a lovely house just off Brick Lane. Problems with the boilers/heating in my room were fixed immediately. Would always return there.

    January 2014
  • We made the booking for a New York acquaintance, a very big six + footer, and thought his room was on the small side, but Kevin has since told us he was very happy with the accommodation and wants to recommend it to his friends. That's all that matters.

    January 2014
  • The property is a little more run down than the photos illustrate. The boiler shuts off randomly all the time, so the heating goes off. Hot water in shower is reliable, though the bathroom window is broken and does not close. This room has pipes running through the wall that heat up a section of the wall right by the bed. The pipes also make a strange ticking/dripping noise at all hours so a light sleeper might not be happy. This room is also right by the front door so you hear other guests coming and going (and trying to figure out how to lock/unlock the door! It's very tricky at times). The walls are very thin and you can hear every move the other guests (and even neighbours) make.

Although I appreciated the fact that there is a daily cleaner, other guests can, at times, leave the house in a bit of a state (muddy footprints everywhere, no toilet paper and NOT flushing the toilet, clumps of hair in the bath/sink, dirty dishes and kitchen counter). The fridge has shelves labelled by room but my meals were stolen multiple times (an unbelievable 3 meals went missing over the course of one night!). If you're staying here because you'd like a kitchen and think you'll save on food then you might be very, very wrong.

Basically, it's a small step up from a hostel. If my room did not come with a lock I probably would have left.

  • I had a great stay at Kazs place. I didn't met him in person, but his staff was really nice. I have nothing much to say, the place was great: clean, tidy, city center, many shops around it. I would come back everytime and recommend it to everyone.

    November 2013
  • The place is really well (email hidden)e room is clean. It's the right place if you want to spend a few nights in London without spending too much money for a room.

    October 2013

    November 2012
  • Place is in a very convenient location just 3 mins from Aldgate East, very easy access to the main tourist attractions around London. Lots of food nearby and room was really private and comfortable. Cable TV too'

Although i did not get to meet Kaz, instructions were very clear and i had no problems at all. Kaz was easy to contact over email and very helpful. Had a great time in London!
