Who WE are:

My girlfriend, Kara, and I are both professional artists. Both of us have separate studio practices, so we can keep the mess out :)

I am a 3rd generation ceramic artist. My family or I have made much of the cups you will drink from! I also have a full time painting practice. My paintings seldom get installed at the house because they are always on the move and they are usually 8-15 feet! In a not-so-distant past, I was also a Sommelier at one of the best and most highly rated "farm-to-table" restaurants in Manhattan. True Hospitality and knowing how to make guests feel welcome are things I know so very well :)

Kara is an artist, a curator, an art critic/editor, and Art professor at several Universities, so new art and art discussions are daily routine :)

We both have a wealth of knowledge of the neighborhood and the city!

YOUR EXPERIENCE:

Whether you are traveling partner, a couple on vacation, someone extending a business trip, or someone looking to host your family while they are visiting you-- we get you :)

During your stay, look forward to pleasant chat around the kitchen table. We can always help you find the best shops, the best food, the best art exhibitions, the best walks, the best cocktails, the quickest subway route, and best insider deals around!

We care about with whom we share our home . A good fit makes your stay amazing and our experience as hosts equally rewarding! We always give preference to civilized, pleasant and respectful people. We will not accept inquiries from partiers looking to pound beers at the kitchen table until 4am... We do our fair share of entertaining, but we keep it classy! ;)

And we now have a new puppy! :)  His name is Lono.  He's a Samoyed, so he is very hypoallergenic.  I have Asthma, Kara has bad allergies, and he does not affect us at all.  He lives in our bedroom or his crate.  He has NO access to the guest room!!  We do encourage guests to interact with him, just please do NOT feed him human food!!

More about the neighborhood:

Williamsburg, 20 years ago, used to be one of the roughest neighborhoods in all of New York. Then pioneering visual/audio/performing/experimental artists moved in and established a fringe community for over 25 years. Now, it’s the most sought-after real estate in all of the 5 boroughs! Even our kitchen looks out to Jay-Z’s Penthouse…

Williamsburg is a Foodies Heaven! So many major Manhattan chefs either have or are looking to have an outpost here. There's Diner and Marlow & Sons next door, ISA, Peter Luger, Dressler, Fatty 'Cue, Pies ‘n Thighs, Aurora, & Miss Favela—all within 4 blocks!

Williamsburg is also well known for it's art scene. All the gallery listings can be seen on the WAGMAG website.

Shopping-- If you like to shop…you’re in BIG trouble here! The vintage/designer/hand-made clothing/accessories and furniture scene is probably the most explosive economic sector in the neighborhood! Second only to the fleets of haut-cuisine food trucks that flock to the parks & streets when the sun shines bright!!

If Dancing to the best world-music is your thing, Bembe is one of the BEST places in all of Brooklyn and it's conveniently across the street. (Best Caipirinhas in the city!!)

** Update: (This current rate reflects NY sales tax of 8.875% included. We have been hosting successfully and continuously since March of 2012. Having enjoyed our experience as hosts, we have stepped up and have become fully legitimate and registered with the state. We are also fully insured.)

Some Improvements we’ve been making!:

•The owner of D.O.C. Wine Shop, one block away, is a friend of mine and has been so great with our guests choosing the perfect wines to accompany your home-cooked meal or choosing some inexpensive bubbles to pre-game your night on the town ☺ We’re currently working out a discount program to offer our guests a discount on bottles of wine…!

•We are also currently working with Landmark Bicycles (2 Blocks away) to establish a solid discount for our guests to have access to affordable bike rentals during their stay! Currently, they offer their shiny new bikes as rentals for $35/day or $105/week, but we’re working on getting that reduced… ☺

All together, everyone here is pretty awesome! Every person who's ever stayed here has left with an amazing fondness for 78 South 6th street!

All the best and we hope to meet you soon,
Jsun & Kara

  • It was a pleasure to stay with Jsun and Kara in their lovely home in Brooklyn. Even though we did not see that much to each other, our impression is that they are kind and relaxed people. The appartment is nice and spacious, but located in an old building with all the quirks and charms that comes with it. The location was great for exploring New York City and moreover getting to know Williamsburg. What a nice neighbourhood! We recommend staying at the Bridge Seal BnB!

    July 2013
  • I stayed in the blue room at Jsun's for two nights on the weekend. The bed was comfortable and the windows let in lovely light. There was a bit of street noise, so bring earplugs, and I could smell strong cigarette smoke from the street below. My two friends stayed in the room with the loft bed and found it much too loud to sleep. There is noise from a nearby bar, the subway, which runs close to the apartment and also from the radiators.

Otherwise, the apartment is comfortable and cozy with more space than the rest of Williamsburg combined. ;-) Jsun is a wonderful host.

  • Jsun was a great host and all the time open for questons and advise.
Williamsburg is a cool area and the connection to manhattan is nice as well. Everytime again!

    April 2013
  • 3 of us stayed with Jsun and Kara for almost two weeks. They are an awesome couple! Very relaxed, warm and friendly! Right from the time we arrived, they made us feel like their space was ours. The rooms were a great size with very comfortable beds. We had full access to the kitchen which allowed us to cook meals at home rather than eating out all the time! With an excellent knowledge of New York it was great to get a few tips from Jsun and Kara on what to see and do! We highly recommend Jsun and Kara as hosts and we will definitely catch up with them when we get back to New York!

  • Jsun and Kara were the perfect hosts in their lovely apartment. It's brilliantly located to everything Williamsburg has to offer; the great bars, restaurants, shops and also conviently located to two subway stations so easy to get into the rest of the city. They were also extremely helpful in recommending places to go, but also encouraged us to explore and find things for ourselves. I stayed there with 2 friends so we rented both rooms. I'd recommend hiring bikes as well to explore Brooklyn further (there are good cycle paths) I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again and I already want to go back!

    October 2012
  • For my first experience on AirBnb it was good, and a nice place with spacious rooms. Not to far from Subway or bus Station.
Jsun ans Kara are very nice host. Justa little noisy when you are not use to live in town, ( garbage truck at 3.00 am !).

    July 2012
  • The place was really lovely, location was brilliant and Jsun was very lovely, helping us when we needed it. The room was nice and had air conditioning which was brilliant for the New York summer. We really enjoyed our relaxing stay in the big apple!

  • Renting a room was perfect for us. Jsun was a nice host, with lots of tips on New York and williamsburg. The location is great you are in the heart of williamsburg!!! the apartment is huge, the neighborhood is very lively, with lots of bars, vintage shops, good food and music nearby.

    June 2012
  • I cannot think of a better way to experience the NYC area than staying at Jsun's. Jsun is an excellent host and his apartment is awesome. He was in constant communication leading up to our stay and was happy to help with directions and suggestions upon our arrival. The apartment was huge for this area (though my sons and I were the only guests-sharing the space would not have been a problem). Windows give great light and a sweet breeze throughout the rooms (nice since we stayed in the summer). Both beds are super comfortable and the entire place is clean and decorated with beautiful art. Being blocks from the subway meant less walking for my three little guys-we seemed to hit it all in city, but loved coming 'home' to Williamsburg and walking to local markets and cafes. The neighborhood is friendly-tons of people out running and walking their dogs. My sons and I miss it already! We highly recommend staying with Jsun and hope to return ourselves.

About
Other than being an AirBnB host, I am a full-time visual artist. I create large-scale, colorful, abstract paintings. My paintings seldom get installed at the house because of their size. I am also a 3rd generation ceramic artist. Much of the cups you will drink from have been made by me or my family! My girlfriend, Kara, is a professional artist as well. Both of us have separate studio practices, so we can keep the mess out...! Kara is also a curator, art critic and an editor, so the art can change from time to time :) We both do a lot of running, so if you are a runner, we have a lot of great routes for you to explore the city and neighborhoods with. Kara has been a long-time yogi. If you are into yoga, she has a lot of experience with several studios in the neighborhood and Manhattan. We both have a wealth of overall knowledge of the neighborhood and the city!
