Interaction with Guests
I live here, but it's a really big house, so after I check you in, you may not see me much until check out. As you will not be passing through my personal living space, you are fee to come and go as you please. However, I am always a cell phone call away if you need anything. When I do see guests, I am happy to talk about my house, my neighborhood, and my city, if it seems to me that you are open to that. Otherwise I'lll let you go about your business.
Located in Baltimore’s hip and historic Mount Vernon, we offer visitors a unique blend of Victorian charm, modern elegance, and downtown Baltimore convenience. Nestled on a pretty tree-lined side street, we are only steps from everything historic Mount Vernon has to offer, including restaurants, theatre, museums, symphony hall, and nightlife.
The central location also makes the corporate apartment an ideal hub from which to explore the rest of the city, and the region. Stops for the MARC, Amtrak, Lightrail, The FREE Charm City Circulator ((email hidden)), as well as the Johns Hopkins shuttle, are all within walking distance. There's a Zipcar station right in front of the house, and two more within a block. Interstate 83 is only a four block drive from your off street parking space behind the house.

ABOUT THE HOUSE:
Currently this is an owner occupied guest house with a corporate apartment, a two bedroom/one bath suite on the third floor and two large bedrooms with private baths on the second floor. We are LGBT welcoming. While we are not, as of yet, serving breakfast, there are plenty of options within walking distance, and around the city, that we would be happy to recommend.
TWO people MAX please. If you need room for more people please see our listing "Two Bedroom Suite in Mount Vernon. This consists of two bedrooms connected by a bath (see floor plan in photos). Booking this as well will essentially give you the entire third floor of the house.
While this corporate apartment is in our home, it is very private, so you may come and go as you please. We just ask that you are respectful to us and others in the house, especially when coming in late. While the walls and floors are thick, they are not sound proof.
The first floor parlors are open to guests. Your are welcome to relax or entertain a friend or two in any of these rooms.
One off street parking space, behind the house, comes with the suite. If you will be using this space, please let us know so that we can keep track of who's parking there.
Floorplan of 3rd floor. Corporate Apartment is in yellow. The two bedroom suite, in blue, is also available in another listing.
Tom was a kind & accommodating host, & yes, his home is as dream-like as the pictures show. I couldn't ask for much more from my very clean, private, beautiful third-floor suite. The location was great; just about everywhere I wanted or needed to be on my quick trip was within a mile or two. I'd certainly look this place up again for my next trip to Baltimore!
We loved Tom's Mt. Vernon apartment. It worked out perfectly for us. We were close to a market for incidentals and there were a variety of restaurants close by to walk to. Our favorite was The Brewer's Art, one block away. The apartment was easily accessible from main roads and the parking area felt very secure. Tom made his home feel like a home away from home. We will hope to stay again in the future.
This rental was an excellent experience for me. The house is a huge historic mansion right in the middle of downtown Baltimore. This large apartment on the third floor, as well as the even larger reception area on the first floor (also available for guests' use), are beautifully restored and appointed. The apartment is quiet and dignified but not stiff or uncomfortably formal. The heating system, the plumbing, and the appliances all function well. There's plenty of room to stretch out in.
The urban setting was a plus for me, providing walkable access to dining choices --many coffee houses, bars, restaurants -- and to museums and historic attractions. A free bus loop also serves the downtown area as well as close-by attractions like Fort McHenry. And a reserved parking space is provided adjacent to the house. To me, the downtown streets seem reasonably safe for anybody taking normal precautions, and I had no problems at all on that front during my four-day stay.
Our host Thomas welcomed me at the appointed check-in time and showed me through the apartment. He was available by e-mail or in person if needed. He was altogether accommodating and professional during the entire visit.
My husband and I had a very enjoyable stay in Thomas's apartment. Thomas was great about meeting us when we arrived and giving us a tour of the place. His home is incredible, and we felt very comfortable in the in-law suite on the 3rd floor. It is as pictured: very clean & more space than we actually needed for our weekend stay in Baltimore. The bed, sheets, & comforter are all really comfortable and smell so good that I will be buying the same detergent!
We took advantage of the parking space provided and used the washer/dryer. Thomas kindly provided soap and shampoo/conditioner, which was great because I forgot to pack a couple toiletries.
The home is located directly next to The Belvedere, which houses Owl Bar where we had some food & drinks. We walked to The Brewer's Art (1 block) both nights to enjoy the housemade beers. We walked to the Inner Harbor (about 1.5 miles) and used Uber a few times to get around.
Would stay here again and would recommend to others!
I thoroughly enjoyed staying in the executive apartment. Everything was perfect!!! Very very clean!!
Very easy to communicate with Thomas! Fantastic parking spot included, we walked all over Baltimore since it was right in the middle! The apartment suite that we had was so perfect for my boyfriend and I while we were in town for a wedding. Felt cozy but still had that old Baltimore charm. We will DEFINITELY be staying here again when we're in town if available! Thank you again Thomas!
Very accomodating host. Fantastic apartment and house with lots of historic feel. Great location with many interesting places just around the corner.
PS: the internet connection is poor, so if on a business visit, perhaps not the place to be.

About the Host, Thomas
I'm a burnt out graphic designer starting a new life as an innkeeper. Larry and I have put a lot of ourselves into the restoration of our historic home. Sadly, Larry is no longer with us, but I will continue to share what we had created together with others. We were both very proud of our city and our neighborhood and I look forward to sharing with guests all they have to offer. This is a Gay household where everyone is welcome.
