What a gorgeous property! The grounds are immaculate. The bungalows are stylish, spacious, comfortable, and very clean. The pool and the tropical gardens full of birds are heaven after a long hot day. You could get the wi-fi signal in the Bungalow, restaurant & pool area, but why would we sit in our room when we could lounge on the patio and check our emails? The hotel is in a quiet rain forest property away from the main road, with gardens and public areas absolute cleaned at all times. The beach is just a few minutes away from the resort, but “the famous Playa Linda” is a real pristine paradise full of thousands of coconut trees and totally empty from any human been. There is a small shop down the road to the resort were we bought many of our needs to take with us on our car trips. We preferred to participate during the morning in some of the hotels activities, like bird watching, rafting, canoeing and zip line and come enjoy the hotel pool or the Playa Linda beach on the afternoon. Next time I will definitely want to rent an ATV from the front desk to get out & explore the roads and mountains nearby.
What really made the La Palapa Eco lodge feel like home for us was Cristina the owner and her wonderful staff. Cristina was just super nice, answering our many questions and making great suggestions. She takes such great care of each and every guest, and her stories at the end of the day with the guests about life experiences were great for great conversations. We are until today after 11 days past in Costa Rica, talking about the delicious homemade fish soup she made for us on our last night. If this was in Toronto and if I were a food critic (we all can dream), I'd name Cristina’s restaurant "The dream in paradise".
What makes a great Hotel is one that makes you want to stay forever... My husband & I stayed at La Palapa for 9 nights, after booking 2 and that wasn't long enough. This place is truly a hidden gem in a rain forest, and the people there that make it so are part of this beautiful holiday we had in the Manuel Antonio Area in Costa Rica. We are already planning our next trip to Costa Rica because La Palapa is in our hearts, but next time we will bring my sister and her boyfriend to paradise!
Start with a sloth sighting right on arrival (like he was waiting!), a lovely pathway to a charming palapa with tables for dinner, and a beautiful inviting pool! This is how to start our adventure on the central Pacific coast of Costa Rica.
Christina and Manuel were lovely hosts. After showing us our private casita through a well manicured trail, we were surprised that we had a private veranda overlooking the well manicured grounds.
Its unbelievable the amount of love, sweat and care that Manuel and his crew must have put into this jungle setting in the last year. It is really beautiful.
The palapa was clean, nicely furnished and well appointed. A short stroll lead us to dinner under the palapa for a lovely chicken casado typical costa rican dish.
At night, I went out and found frogs, a sloth, leaf cutter ants and heard birds. The birds also act as an alarm clock in the morning in a relaxing way.
Breakfast was buffet style and included. Other guests were there as well and it was great to discuss what they did the day before and exchange tips. Christina and Manuel helped us arrange a couple of trips that we would have otherwise missed. Nayauca Falls and a Mangrove tour.
If you need to catch up on email, the wireless in the main palapa area worked well for my iphone and ipad. It would drop if many people were using it, however this has been my experience in many other locales.
Beverages are available for adults, however. If you looking for loud music and people partying, this wouldn't be your place. If you want relaxation and a quiet secure, safe and fun jungle adventure, this is it!!
We will definately return to this piece of paradise in Costa Rica! Thank you Christina and Manuel for a lovely, memorable, relaxing stay at La Palapa Eco Resort!
