Heal the Spirit & Satisfy the Soul
Come to unwind and leave the troubles of the world behind. Here you can release and relax. Bring family and friends for that great getaway.
This is a jewel nestled in the countryside, sitting between a stocked freshwater pond and a salt water tidal marsh that hosts an abundance of life. Enjoy the scenic drive, which will take you just outside of Charleston as you travel along South Carolina’s famous coastal tidal waterways, just moments away from Edisto Beach State Park and Botany Bay Wildlife Reserve. If you enjoy boating, the boat ramp is right across the Interstate Highway 174 bridge about two miles from the property.
This quaint home features 2 small sofas and several spaces to sit and recline. If the weather is cold, there's a cozy, small cast-iron wood burning fireplace to warm the home and the spirit. The porch and backyard deck are perfect for lounging, especially on warm, southern summer nights. There are 3 furnished bedrooms with a queen bed in the master bedroom, 2 single beds in the second bedroom room, a queen bed in the third bedroom, and there are 2 full baths. There is also a sleeper sofa in the living room, and a most comfortable, relaxing hammock and single day bed on the screened porch, a magical place during warm summer nights.
There is a fully functional kitchen with up-to-date appliances and a small laundry room with a washer and dryer for your convenience. Adjacent to the kitchen is a cozy dining space, a place for early morning cups of coffee while starring off into the distant trees and enjoying the picturesque snapshots of nature beyond the back patio doors. It can also be used for evenings of spirited roundtable discussions after meals.
The house sits on a lush wooded 2.73 acre site. Towards the front of the site is a well-kept, small freshwater pond stocked with Bass, Crappie and Sunfish. Rarely will you have to wish for a bite. At the rear of the property is a tidal marsh that fills and empties as the seawater from the tidal waterways rises and recedes. If you love birds large and small, this is where you want to be.
This beautiful retreat is in the city of Hollywood, South Carolina near Edisto Island and Yonges Island. Down a sculptured oak tree-lined narrow country road, it sits within a private cul-de-sac shared by two other homes. It is approximately 35 miles from downtown Charleston and the Charleston International Airport . And about 10 minutes from the Edisto Beach State Park Reserve. You can enjoy a day at the small shell beach in Botany Bay Wildlife Reserve. Also nearby is Stono Ferry Golf Course, voted in 2011 South Carolina's golf course of the year. The Edisto Island Museum and the Edisto Serpentarium are also located on this wildlife reserve. The reserve features many of the native reptilian wildlife, such as 19 adult American alligators, soft shell and snapping turtles, and a wide array of species of snakes.
Other Things to Note
Unfortunately, we have had to raise our nightly fee as well as the cleaning fee to incorporate a 7% state tax and a 3% local tax. Recently, the Governor of our State signed legislation that would penalize Hosts that rent their homes or properties in vacation rental activities if this tax is not collected and paid.
Please accept our apologies. Our goals are to share our home, our beautiful grounds and this fun -filled area with vacationers, especially families, coming to this state from throughout the world. We certainly hope that this tax is not an inconvenience to perspective guest.
Thank you for considering our lovely Dorothy Gardens.
Great experience! House and host offered everything we needed. Excellent location to find some quiet relaxation and beautiful low country scenery!
Dorothy Gardens was the perfect getaway for my friends and I while attending the wedding for the weekend. We had a ton of room for all of us and a lot of outdoor activities!
Mary was a pleasure to work with and willing to accommodate us with our needs! We all would love to come back and visit ASAP!
Thank you for everything!
My husband and I had a wonderful time there with his brother, sister-in-law and nephews. All of the boys enjoyed the pond and john boat. Very cozy home.. perfect for a get away. Very clean, well stocked with all you need for a home away from home
We had a wonderful stay! All the nice touches were awesome for our stay! :) My family came to visit from New Mexico and El Paso this was an experience we will never forget. The rooms were a good size and the screened in porch made the house seem even bigger. We enjoyed using the grill and relaxing. we would love to visit again!
The home was amazing! They were super hosts without even being there. Every detail had been taken care of from plenty of trashbags, dish soap, laundry soap, fire starter logs, logs to burn, a lighter, a working flashlight, paper towels and bath towels, even fresh delicious bread and croissants! Kitchen essentials were there too! To be honest, I hadn't stayed in such a well stocked house on airbnb as this one. :) The welcome book was full of great information about the area. The area was exactly as they had stated - quiet and peaceful and private. We loved listening to the crickets and frogs at night, something we can't do at our current home. It was a perfect get away place with all the luxuries of home. Wifi worked, was a bit slow, but we didn't really care. They had a blue ray player with lots of interesting movies. Plenty of books. Hiking information. You really can just show up with some clothes and you'll be good to go for a wonderful time of relaxation and fun. Highly recommend. And enjoy some of the close restaurants - we went to Capt Jimmy's Seafood - delicious!!! Super clean house! Trees everywhere! Beautiful place for bike rides however not tons of bike lanes near by. It was just me, my husband, and our dog so lots of space. :)
