Hana Camp Gear provides only the tent packages. To camp at Wai'anapanapa you must secure a camping permit online from the State of Hawaii. Search for Waianapanapa State Park Camping. When you open the site, click "Browse for Availability". At the bottom of the list you will see "Undesignated Campground". Search for the date on which you wish to camp and it will show the number of campsites available on that date. If you wish to secure a permit, click the "Reservation" tab and follow the procedures.

After you have downloaded the permit, we can approve your request to reserve a tent package.

Campsite rates (paid directly to the State of Hawaii on their permit website) are:
Residents $20 per night, per campsite

Non-Residents: $30 per night, per campsite

Waiʻanapanapa State Park is located off of the scenic Hana Highway, about 3 miles from Hana town. The park features a spectacular black volcanic sand beach. The spacious and well-maintained campground features picnic table, restrooms, and showers. It's close to seabird colonies, lava tubes, blowholes, freshwater caves, and a natural stone arch.

Guests should note that this is a tropical rain forest and, depending on the trade winds, mosquitoes may be present. It wasn't always that way. As one story goes, in 1826 the whaling ship Wellington arrived at Lahaina from Mexico. Seeking fresh water, they dumped their barrels of old water into a river. Unfortunately, mosquito larvae were in the barrels. Another story has angry whalers, banned from Lahaina by the king, dumped their mosquito-infected water for revenge. Nevertheless, mosquitoes were not native to the islands and, sometime in the 1800s, they were introduced to Hawaii.
