Your cozy and clean private bedroom with ensuite bathroom and separate entrance is located in the hip H-St/Atlas neighborhood. Enjoy the city with easy access to public transportation taking you right to the monuments and popular attractions!
Your room is bright, cozy and cool! The bed and bathroom are newly renovated and freshly cleaned before every visit. The room comfortably fits 4, with a full-sized bed and a convertible couch. Free, fast Wi-Fi!
Popular tourist attractions by distance:
Union Station - 1.6 miles
U.S. Capitol - 1.8 miles
National Mall - 2.1 miles
Chinatown - 2.5 miles
White House - 3.1 miles
Washington Monument - 3.3 miles
Lincoln Memorial - 4 miles
Georgetown - 5 miles
Some of the best features and amenities:
- Fresh sheets and towels provided, but cleaning fee is waived if you bring your own!
- Keurig coffee maker en-suite. Coffee, tea and cups provided.
- Private entrance, and you can also use the main entrance.
- Access to laundry, hair dryer, iron, shampoo/conditioner, full kitchen and living room with TV.
- Easy access to public transportation, parks, and very close to the east end of The National Mall (the Capitol, National Archives, Supreme Court Building, Library of Congress, etc.). Our apartment is 2 blocks to Maryland Ave which is an easy walk or bus ride to the Capitol and National Mall.
- Easy access to great bars and restaurants on H Street and plenty of recommendations from us.
The apartment itself is newly renovated, with two bedrooms (we'll be staying in the other) with an open "living space" made up of the living room and kitchen separating your room from our's.
There is a TV with cable TV, and free wi-fi throughout.
The pets stay in the back hall during the day, so there is a baby gate up to separate the hall from the living area. The girls (Luna and Lola) are friendly and love people, but they will bark when they first meet you - I wouldn't say you have to be a "dog person" to stay here, but if you are highly allergic or just really don't like dogs, we might not be the best fit for you!
Interaction with Guests
We like to meet all of our guests but often we meet them only briefly or not at all due to working and being generally very social and busy!
We will most likely be present during the entire stay, but as we're both teachers and leave early for work, we've found that most of our guests leave to see the sites after us, and get back home after we go to bed!
We're happy to talk about your stay anytime though - even via email. Tell us what you're looking for and we are sure to have recommendations or ideas for places outside of the typical tourist stuff :)
You can be fairly certain you will have a quiet, relaxing stay with us - when we are home, we are most likely cooking or hanging out in the living room though, and we want you to feel comfortable sharing that space with us.
We love to travel and hear of great places to visit so we're almost always up for sharing travel stories.
Eat and drink where the locals do at night, and enjoy the sites during the day! We love living near a variety of bars and restaurants. The H St corridor has something for everyone - budget eats to gourmet dinners, as well as a theater, a fantastic live music venue, and a variety of outdoor patios where you can relax and really feel like you're part of a unique, diverse city.
We can easily provide recommendations based on our favorites and your interests - for any part of the city!
Getting around is as easy as walking 2 blocks to the bus stop! We highly recommend the bus because it's cheap, fast, and convenient. The main bus line runs every 10 minutes, and will get you within blocks of the White House, Chinatown, Union Station, and the U.S. Capitol.
If the weather is nice, we are also within about 3 blocks of a bike rental station - biking is also highly recommended as a fast, cheap way to see the city a little differently!
We are also located within about a 1 mile walk of the blue/orange and red line metros for trips outside of the typical tourist attractions. You can also take a bus to the metro station to save some time.
Parking is available for free, right on our street, between 6pm and 7am (so at night) and on the weekend. During the day, you will have to move your car or risk getting a ticket. Permit passes are available for stays of 5 or more nights - please just let us know in your reservation request.
If you are arriving by plane, please let us know when you'll land, and at what airport, and we will gladly help you plan your route here. As there are 3 airports and a variety of public transportation options available only at certain times, it is easiest to look at each guests situation separately :)
Other Things to Note
We have both had separate Airbnb listings when we lived apart, and have both found that due to our often hectic schedules, the apartment isn't well-suited to kids. In some cases we can make exceptions, but generally, the apartment is really geared towards couples, singles, and groups of friends traveling together. We like kids I swear! We just want everyone to have the vacation they deserve.
We're pretty flexible and really just want to meet cool, interesting, traveling people! We're both pretty busy typically, and often get in late - we don't mind if you do too! Your room is at the front of the house and ours is at the back with the living room in between so noise isn't usually an issue, but of course we try to keep it quiet and respectful and ask that you do the same. You're on vacation and deserve to have a great stay, so please just talk to us about what you need.
Pets are more than welcome (especially if they'll get a long with ours!) but do count as an extra guest so please note that in your reservation!
No smoking inside, but you do have a private entrance to the front steps, and you're more than welcome to use the back porch and yard - there's even an ashtray out there already :)
Brilliant correspondence from Kelley from day one.
Her recommendations for airport transfer was super helpful.
The room is a good size and exactly how it is pictured/described.
Transport into the city is a few minutes walk to the bus stop.
Really helpful welcome pack in the room.
Kelley and Summer are lovely (as are the two dogs!!) and if I'm ever back in DC, I'll look to stay here :)
When we first arrive we thought there was no one home cause we tried knocking the door at the side. After 20 mins outside we turned the knob and it was open. Summer came to greet us first then we met Kelly as well. The room was clean, had a private bath and a coffee machine inside was neat. Loved my stay. Check out was easy we just left the keys in the room and locked the door. The neighbourhood seems a little dark at night. So I wouldn't recommend going out pass 10pm. The x2 bus that goes to chinatown is just around the corner across the road. X1 goes to the capitol area. Kelly and summer were detailed in giving instructions and they prepared maps in the room for us to use. As we have many luggage, we took a cab to the house and cost us $15. It is kind of hard to catch a cab from that neighbourhood. So either call for one or dont carry too much luggage and take the bus. The dogs Luna and Lola were cute. We did not use much of the kitchen but everything was functional.
Good service! A very quite and comfortable apartment, the hosts are very friendly and give me enough private space. Good location, travelers can take X2 straight to downtown, many restaurants are also closed to the apartment. However, the general environment seems like not very safe in the late night.
Room is spacious. Location is convenient, just 30 mins walk from union station and around 45mins walk from the main monuments and museums. Kelley and Summer were nice and informative. They provided some good suggestions for travelers and are willing to answer questions. The dogs will bark at guests but they are not aggressive at all. There were no body wash provided and toilet paper supply was not very sufficient. At last, there were some strange follow ups about plumbing toilet but I have no idea what happened, so it is a bit eerie.
No doubt Kelley and Summer are great hosts and the room is promising. It is a good trip, but always be cautious not to be caught in a snow in DC, everything will be shut down.....
Awesome experience! Very helpful and accommodating. Terrific communication and very helpful!
Room was spotless and organized, clean and safe. Would recommend to anyone!
We spend three nights at Kelley and Summer's place. The spacious room with the private bathroom was really comfortable, and the apartment is in a convenient location. With the bus you can easily reach the city center or you can even walk to the Capitol in about 20 minutes.
Unfortunately we didn't meet Kelley and Summer but they left us a nice"welcome folder" with a lot of information about DC! Lovely!!
And the dogs are extremely cute and calm!
Highly recommended! ;)
