Popular tourist attractions by distance:
Union Station - 1.6 miles
U.S. Capitol - 1.8 miles
National Mall - 2.1 miles
Chinatown - 2.5 miles
White House - 3.1 miles
Washington Monument - 3.3 miles
Lincoln Memorial - 4 miles
Georgetown - 5 miles
Some of the best features and amenities:
- Fresh sheets and towels provided, but cleaning fee is waived if you bring your own!
- Keurig coffee maker en-suite. Coffee, tea and cups provided.
- Private entrance, and you can also use the main entrance.
- Access to laundry, hair dryer, iron, shampoo/conditioner, full kitchen and living room with TV.
- Easy access to public transportation, parks, and very close to the east end of The National Mall (the Capitol, National Archives, Supreme Court Building, Library of Congress, etc.). Our apartment is 2 blocks to Maryland Ave which is an easy walk or bus ride to the Capitol and National Mall.
- Easy access to great bars and restaurants on H Street and plenty of recommendations from us.
The apartment itself is newly renovated, with two bedrooms (we'll be staying in the other) with an open "living space" made up of the living room and kitchen separating your room from our's.
There is a TV with cable TV, and free wi-fi throughout.
The pets stay in the back hall during the day, so there is a baby gate up to separate the hall from the living area. The girls (Luna and Lola) are friendly and love people, but they will bark when they first meet you - I wouldn't say you have to be a "dog person" to stay here, but if you are highly allergic or just really don't like dogs, we might not be the best fit for you!
Interaction with Guests
We like to meet all of our guests but often we meet them only briefly or not at all due to working and being generally very social and busy!
We will most likely be present during the entire stay, but as we're both teachers and leave early for work, we've found that most of our guests leave to see the sites after us, and get back home after we go to bed!
We're happy to talk about your stay anytime though - even via email. Tell us what you're looking for and we are sure to have recommendations or ideas for places outside of the typical tourist stuff :)
You can be fairly certain you will have a quiet, relaxing stay with us - when we are home, we are most likely cooking or hanging out in the living room though, and we want you to feel comfortable sharing that space with us.
We love to travel and hear of great places to visit so we're almost always up for sharing travel stories.
Eat and drink where the locals do at night, and enjoy the sites during the day! We love living near a variety of bars and restaurants. The H St corridor has something for everyone - budget eats to gourmet dinners, as well as a theater, a fantastic live music venue, and a variety of outdoor patios where you can relax and really feel like you're part of a unique, diverse city.
We can easily provide recommendations based on our favorites and your interests - for any part of the city!
Getting around is as easy as walking 2 blocks to the bus stop! We highly recommend the bus because it's cheap, fast, and convenient. The main bus line runs every 10 minutes, and will get you within blocks of the White House, Chinatown, Union Station, and the U.S. Capitol.
If the weather is nice, we are also within about 3 blocks of a bike rental station - biking is also highly recommended as a fast, cheap way to see the city a little differently!
We are also located within about a 1 mile walk of the blue/orange and red line metros for trips outside of the typical tourist attractions. You can also take a bus to the metro station to save some time.
Parking is available for free, right on our street, between 6pm and 7am (so at night) and on the weekend. During the day, you will have to move your car or risk getting a ticket. Permit passes are available for stays of 5 or more nights - please just let us know in your reservation request.
If you are arriving by plane, please let us know when you'll land, and at what airport, and we will gladly help you plan your route here. As there are 3 airports and a variety of public transportation options available only at certain times, it is easiest to look at each guests situation separately :)
Other Things to Note
We have both had separate Airbnb listings when we lived apart, and have both found that due to our often hectic schedules, the apartment isn't well-suited to kids. In some cases we can make exceptions, but generally, the apartment is really geared towards couples, singles, and groups of friends traveling together. We like kids I swear! We just want everyone to have the vacation they deserve.
We're pretty flexible and really just want to meet cool, interesting, traveling people! We're both pretty busy typically, and often get in late - we don't mind if you do too! Your room is at the front of the house and ours is at the back with the living room in between so noise isn't usually an issue, but of course we try to keep it quiet and respectful and ask that you do the same. You're on vacation and deserve to have a great stay, so please just talk to us about what you need.
Pets are more than welcome (especially if they'll get a long with ours!) but do count as an extra guest so please note that in your reservation!
No smoking inside, but you do have a private entrance to the front steps, and you're more than welcome to use the back porch and yard - there's even an ashtray out there already :)
The stay at Kelley and Summer's apartment was nice. The flat is very good located and you could reach the bus station in two minutes or walk to the capitol in 20 minutes. The room has enough space for two people and was clean. They also had fresh towels, shampoo and a lot of Information about Washington for us. Thanks for hosting us!
Kelley and Summer were great hosts! Great communication right from the start. Easy to find and the room was as advertised. The bed was very comfortable and the private entrance was great for getting in late. Loved having our own bathroom. It was also nice to be greeted by Lola their adorable little dog!
Kelley and Summer are friendly and very attentive hosts! The space is nice, though it can be a little cramped for 4-5 people. Location provides easy access via X2 to downtown, but Georgetown and the Lincoln memorial areas are hard to get to. Metro is far.
We stayed in their place for 3 nights and it was awesome !!! They were both friendly and kind. Since they let us know to take supershuttle from Dulles Airport, we could get their place easily and cost-efficiently. Also two dogs were super adorable!!! There were three bus stops near by so it was easy to go downtown by bus without any transfer. And the room was definitely same as pictures on website and it was quite big. A bed was big enough for two people and a couch was also cozy. The best thing was that we had our own restroom. Anyway, it was a nice time to stay in Kelly and Summer's Place :)
It was very comfortable at Kelley and Summer. We ha our own Room including an own bathroom. The house is in an area a little outside of the center, but is near the h-street (with a lot of amazing restaurants). Staying was just like in a hotel - we unluckily did not even meet them. Nevertheless they gave us some tipps what to do in D.C and where we find good reastaurants.
