A large private cottage with private bathroom in the most desirable neighborhood in San Francisco. Steps from the shops and restaurants of Valencia street, the vibrant streets of the Castro, and beautiful Dolores park.
My dog, my brother, Amy, and I all live together on Oakwood, a quiet street a short block from Dolores Park and around the corner from Delfina, Bi-Rite and Tartine. Behind our apartment is a guest cottage with its own private bathroom, desk, couch, wifi router, microwave oven, sci-fi library, yoga ball, Elvis costume, and so on... all of which will be at your disposal.
We're poised on the border between two of the most vibrant neighborhoods in San Francisco -- The Castro and The Mission -- with Muni, BART, and buses only a few blocks away.
Extras: On the patio there's a propane heater for chilly nights and a propane grill for whenever BBQs. If you've got a kid or an extra friend, we can roll out the futon.
On weekdays, it would be best if you can check in after 6:00 pm, since we both work day jobs.
Amy (https://www.airbnb.com/users/show/601146) is our third housemate; she's also a computer geek who's lived in San Francisco for years.
Additional note: the cottage is accessed through the apartment, and there are about 20 stairs to go down to get to it. Please keep this in mind if you or your 4-legged friend have difficulty with stairs. Thanks!
Other Things to Note
Access to the back yard and cottage is through our 2nd floor apartment, up and down a flight of stairs.
You'll get a key to our apartment and one for the cottage too. Access to the back yard and cottage is through our 2nd floor apartment, up and down a flight of stairs. The cottage has a microwave and fridge, but you're welcome to use the main apartment's kitchen or washing machine with a little advance notice.
I've got a dog; she'd be happy to hang out with you in the cottage or yard, but we can keep her out of the cottage if you prefer.
There's an air conditioner and a space heater, but they're rarely necessary; if you use them, please turn them off when you're out since they burn electricity.
Great place to stay. Quiet and comfortable, couldn't ask for more. Amy and Nick were excellent hosts!
Very nice cottage with a charming patio in a fun, lively neighborhood. Excellent restaurants nearby! Nick was very helpful and welcoming. Perfect place to stay few days to discover one of the best cities in the world!
The cottage offers a really private place to stay in a great neighborhood, within walking distance of everywhere we wanted to go. The shared backyard is a comfortable place to sit and read, have a beer, etc. Nick was a gracious host and made these 1st time Airbnb users believers. We look forward to our next trip to the City!
The cottage is a lovely place to stay and we enjoyed the privacy of having our own unit. It was surprisingly quiet back there considering its location! The space was clean and the bed was super comfortable!
We loved being just a couple of blocks from the Mission neighborhood. We loved this area and ate at many amazing restaurants and enjoyed the coffee shops and unique stores.
Unfortunately, someone tried to break into our rental car and the back window was shattered. This was after we removed every single item, including a T shirt, at the recommendation of Ammy, the host. It's a city, these things happen. But, I would just be cautious. Additionally, we got lucky and found a spot next to Dolores Park that was not restricted parking. However, most of the parking in this area is limited to two hours or requires a permit. So, again this is just something to be mindful of if you plan on having a car.
I communicated with Nick prior to arrival but then only met and communicated with Amy once there. Nick was prompt in his messaging but unfortunately there was a miscommunication and no one was there to let us in at our arrival time. Amy eventually reached out about an hour later and walked us through how to get in the house even though no one could come. I understand these things happen and Amy even left a bottle of wine and note for us later to apologize.
Overall, this was nice place to stay. Especially if you are interested in exploring the mission neighborhood and the ability to walk a few blocks and have unlimited access to amazing food!
Friendly host, a nice clean cottage with a beautiful patio, and a very comfortable bed. The location is so great right at the center of SF. At the same time, it is very quiet in the night so you'll have undisturbed relaxing sleep. One small thing I really liked is: (unlike a hotel room) there are plenty of power plugs that I can use, which is convenient and useful.
The cottage is the perfect solution for two people in terms of space and privacy: it is actually something in the middle between a private room and a private house.
The room and the bathroom were clean and well equipped - check in and check out were smooth.
I ll recommend mission district to people that like hip lifestyle... With a Mexican flavor
Nick and Alex were very welcoming hosts and made us feel right at home. The place was clean (besides an unemptied coffee pot), in a nice location and exactly as described on their page. We recommend their private cottage to anyone visiting San Francisco!

We're two brothers, originally from Vermont, who enjoy living in the best neighborhood in San Francisco. We share our apartment with a fellow computer geek, Amy (https://www.airbnb.com/users/show/601146) , and Abby, our sweet dog. We love hosting guests from all over the world!
