The space
Merryweathers is a large property that has a real 'WOW' factor, a spacious house that has large, open - plan, contemporary living spaces and comfortable bedrooms to accommodate up to 21 people.

Please scroll through the images in the gallery…. As they say, “ A picture speaks a thousand words!”

Key points:
Suitable for families, friend's get-togethers, well-behaved hen/stag celebrations as well as corporate groups looking to mix work with team-building and quality down-time.
Guests have the whole house and our beautiful walled garden to themselves - a home from home to build those happy memories that we hope will last a lifetime. Some of our guests have returned many times over the years, so please read our reviews and get in touch if you have any other questions about how we can help.

Bedrooms and bathrooms:
The house has 17 individual beds, sleeping 21+ people over 8 bedrooms.
We have a travel cot for those with infants - just bring your own baby linen.

Towels are provided. (We ask guests to bring their own towels for the hot tub).

The master bedroom and ensuite is on the ground floor and particularly useful for the elderly or those with any mobility issues. The master ensuite bathroom has a shower as well as a whirlpool bath.

There are 3 other shower rooms with 5 toilets in total.

Kitchens:
You will have use of two open-plan, well-appointed kitchens with lots of large saucepans and serving dishes, mugs, glasses and crockery for 21 people to all eat together.

There is a Nespresso coffee machine and 2 cafetieres.

There are three fridges, (1 x small one and two large ones), along with two deep freezes.

You have two dishwashers (one in the main kitchen and one in the basement kitchen) Dishwasher tabs are provided.

We also supply all cleaning cloths, tea-towels and washing up liquid.

Dining:
Indoors - there are three tables in a spacious open-plan dining area for 21 people to all eat together.

Outside - there are two large outdoor tables on a pretty patio surrounded by a calming water feature for alfresco dining. Our large gas BBQ is available for use at no extra charge with all the necessary equipment including platters, skewers and, of course, the gas!

Living Room:
The light and airy, open plan living room with vaulted ceiling and large windows enables you to enjoy uninterrupted views across the walled garden to the stunning Sussex countryside beyond.
Lots of games, books and musical instruments are at hand along with a 52 inch TV with access to Netflix and other TV apps.
A massage chair in the main living room will have guests fighting over who is next!!
Strong WiFi is available (code provided in house manual)

Outside space:
You have sole use of the walled garden set out into terraced 'rooms' that include a small orchard, a more formal parterre, a lawned area for football, badminton and other outside games. Accessed via two gates from the carpark, the walled garden is secure for children and those bringing dogs.

Our beautifully designed Solarium houses a 6 person Jacuzzi, a table tennis table and dart board. With ceiling speakers and mood lighting and next to a chill out zone outside by the firepit, I feel this space will be one of our guests' 'special' spaces.

You will have immediate access to the Sussex Border Path for long walks directly from the house. Maps are available at the house.

What's provided:
We provide a starter kit of tea, coffee, milk and a little ‘something’ yummy for when you first arrive.

We look forward to welcoming you to our place!

Guest access
You will have use of the whole house and sole use of the walled gardens to play sports such as football and badminton, picnic in the orchard or stroll about the parterre smelling the roses. The plot in total is 0.75 acre with lots of chill out zones.

The tennis court shown on one of the images belongs to our neighbour and unfortunately not available for guests' use.

Transport and getting here:

Most guests arrive by car. There is parking for max 8 cars. Please do not park in front of the garage and away from our New York taxi in the hedge!

Turn off the A21 where you see a sign to 'Roughfield Estate'. Merryweathers is 1st house on the left

Do NOT follow the postcode, it is over 2 miles long and people tend to get very lost!! You will receive specific directions so please follow these to the letter :)

Please DO NOT ask the neighbours!

Merryweathers is set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) just 30 minutes from the old spa town of Royal Tunbridge Wells and the coast at Hastings.

Regular trains run to Etchingham train station (a 7 minute drive from Merryweathers) and Wadhurst, (12 minutes) station on the London Charing Cross to Hastings line, taking approximately 1 hour. Local taxis will need to be booked in advance as these are rural train stations.

We are situated next to the A21 which can be busy at times.

Local shops at Hawkhurst are just 10 minutes away. The local petrol station is open 24 hours a day for basics should you need anything. Local supermarkets deliver to the house.

Other things to note
We ask that everyone wears slippers or shoes WITHOUT treads to avoid walking the small stones from the driveway into the house.

Please step into the bucket to rinse off any grass debris and stones before getting into the hot tub.

My work: To make people happy
I spend too much time: Doing stuff!
My passion is my garden where you're likely to leave with a big bunch of flowers and a bag of organic fruit and veggies. Our beloved pooch is a champion at dog agility. We love walking in some of the best countryside in Kent and Sussex. Traveling... anywhere to explore.... that's me! A great night in is giggling with girlfriends or watching an action film with a cuppa on the go.
