A great room with a king size bed just a few blocks from the French Quarter and Marigny. Can include bicycle loan as well!
Hi! I'm Lawrence-- local fashion/costume designer, resident of five years of the down-to-earth and widely diverse New Marigny neighborhood, and I'm excited to share my city with you! Last minute reservations are more than welcome!
This listing is for the private, spacious, upstairs master bedroom of a three bedroom home. The room has a dresser, book shelf, full length mirror and closet all available for your use, as well as a work desk. The house is an historic shotgun style home, which if you are unfamiliar, means that there are no hallways and you may walk through other people's sleeping spaces to use the bathroom or kitchen, however, your room is private and no one will be walking through it
I also have an adorable kittie which I love to share with guests.
The house is about a hundred years old and the downstairs has beautiful hardwood floors. I have central heat and air and wireless internet. The kitchen is open for your use and the bathroom is fully stocked. I don't have a washer and dryer, but I am very close to several neighborhood laundromats. There is no television in the home, but I have plenty of books you are welcome to borrow, Netflix you can use, and let's be real here, it's New Orleans! I promise you won't be bored. :) I also have a very large manicured backyard with chairs, citrus trees and a pecan tree which you are more than welcome to use for relaxation. I don't allow smoking inside my home, but the backyard and front stoop are open for your use.
Interaction with Guests
You may be woken up by a secondline parade, you will likely have a conversation with one of my neighbors; isn't this why you are using airbnb? I do everything in my power to make the stay of my guests as enjoyable as possible, and time permitting, I'd love to take you out at least once to show you some spots you may not read about in guidebooks.
I respond to messages in a very timely manner, so please be in touch if you have any questions or concerns.
I look forward to meeting you!!
My neighborhood is not swanky or upscale. It is an authentic, historic residential area where young artists and old families call home. It is more affordable than a Vieux Carre hotel because it is a guest room in my home, which as an independent artist, also contains my studio. Your bedding and linens will be clean. I am not a concierge but I am a local who can give you plenty of fun suggestions for your stay, and you will be located very close to active parts of town.
Your future room is located on the riverside of the Seventh ward (also known as the New Marigny. It's five blocks from the beautiful and bustling French Quarter, four blocks from the Marigny/Frenchmen Street jazz clubs and art markets, and only one block away from the up and coming St. Claude Arts district. My house is nestled between Treme and St. Roch, and walking distance from the Bywater. Though cabs are the easiest way to get from the airport, there are buses only a few blocks away to various parts of town (Canal Street, UNO, Megabus stop, Lower Ninth Ward, Bywater, St. Charles Streetcar, etc) and there are several places nearby where you can rent bikes. If you are driving into town, I have plenty of on-street parking available.
No racism, sexism, homophobia etc. will be tolerated.
If guests wish to have additional people overnight Lawrence must be consulted, and this is generally discouraged.
Ask before adjusting the AC.
If there is any problem, I would love for us to find a solution immediately! Please communicate.
Feel free to come home at any time of day/night.
Lawrence's place is great! It has a lot of artistic character and we really enjoyed having Snack around. The upstairs private room was cozy enough for two people.
Sad our plans changed for our return back to NOLA. Otherwise we'd stay there again!
When we arrived Lawrence was in the middle of working so he wasn't particularly friendly. He didn't really acknowledge us for the first few minutes of us arriving, he didn't look up from his work, which was a little awkward to be honest...especially when you're staying in someones home. We didn't see him for the rest of our stay but he did make a nice (website hidden) map with hot spots on it. The place was a typical New Orleans shotgun so it already has the potential to be awkward but we didn't see anyone that much except for the super sweet guest staying on the couch and the other Air BnB guests who were staying upstairs with us (a bunch of different people, only noticed they were there at night and early AM).
The place itself was fine but I can definitely see where people have reviewed it and said it was "dirty". I used to use a website called (website hidden) and I'm in a band so I'm used to all kinds of spaces, nothing really bothers me that much...but the bathroom was a little too gross for me (i.e.. unclean sink, consistently wet floor with wet towels and rugs from too many revolving guests).
All in all I say it was fine but I would rather pay for a hotel than a less that perfect Air BnB....but I have stayed in Hotels in New Orleans that were kind of dingy so who knows, could be a NOLA thing.
Great place. Nice stay. Lawrence was very friendly and gave us a list of places to go in the neighborhood.
I had such a great time at Lawrence's place. He made me feel very comfortable and welcome. The room it was pretty comfy just like I imagined. Lawrence can be flexible, understanding and helpful, I came very late in the night and he plus his friend helped me out with my 4 pieces of luggage. Great location as well. I more than recommend his place to anyone who is looking for a place close to French quater.
we did not meet lawrence during our stay, however his communication was prompt and friendly. the room was as described, and it seemed like a very social house - there were many people staying there during the 2 days we were there. The house is unusual in that there is only one internal door to the room we booked and to get to the kitchen we had to walk through 2 bedrooms which im told is a New Orleans way of living. The room was clean and fresh towels were available
Staying with Lawrence was great. The room had a comfortable king size bed and a futon, so we had lots of space for all our stuff. He checked in with us a few times to make sure everything was okay, and was very friendly when we saw him in the house. We had to walk through someone else's room to get to ours which we thought would be weird, but it really wasn't- he had curtains up for privacy and it was completely fine. It was an easy walk to the French Quarter but just a few blocks from some other really good restaurants and bars. I would absolutely stay with him again. Oh and his cat Snack was very adorable and friendly. :)
The reservation was canceled 23 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.

My name is Lawrence. I am originally from Boston, Massachusetts, and have been here in New Orleans for six or so years. I tend to spend my time bicycling, crafting leather work, and out and about in New Orleans. I can often be found at the Karaoke bar around the corner; once in a while I'll even sing a song. I usually attempt to make sure to invite guests out with me if I'm dong anything interesting, but I also spend a decent amount of time staying in. I enjoy playing board games and card games regularly. I generally don't eat animals, but don't have a problem with guests doing so.
