Hi! I'm Lawrence-- local fashion/costume designer, resident of five years of the down-to-earth and widely diverse New Marigny neighborhood, and I'm excited to share my city with you! Last minute reservations are more than welcome!
Your future room is located on the riverside of the Seventh ward. It's five blocks from the beautiful and bustling French Quarter, four blocks from the Marigny/Frenchmen Street jazz clubs and art markets, and only one block away from the up and coming St. Claude Arts district. My house is nestled between Treme and St. Roch, and walking distance from the Bywater. Though cabs are the easiest way to get from the airport, there are buses only a few blocks away to various parts of town (Canal Street, UNO, Megabus stop, Lower Ninth Ward, Bywater, St. Charles Streetcar, etc) and there are several places nearby where you can rent bikes. If you are driving into town, I have plenty of on-street parking available.
This listing is for the private, spacious, upstairs master bedroom of a three bedroom home. The room has a dresser, book shelf, full length mirror and closet all available for your use, as well as a work desk. The house is an historic shotgun style home, which if you are unfamiliar, means that there are no hallways and you may walk through other people's sleeping spaces to use the bathroom or kitchen, however, your room is private and no one will be walking through it (I also have an air mattress available if you have need of it).
The house is about a hundred years old and the downstairs has beautiful hardwood floors. I have central heat and air and wireless internet. The kitchen is open for your use and the bathroom is fully stocked. I don't have a washer and dryer, but I am very close to several neighborhood laundromats. There is no television in the home, but I have plenty of books you are welcome to borrow, Netflix you can use, and let's be real here, it's New Orleans! I promise you won't be bored. :) I also have a very large manicured backyard with chairs, citrus trees and a pecan tree which you are more than welcome to use for relaxation. I don't allow smoking inside my home, but the backyard and front stoop are open for your use. I also have an adorable kitten which I love to share with guests.
My neighborhood is not swanky or upscale. It is an authentic, historic residential area where young artists and old families call home. It is more affordable than a Vieux Carre hotel because it is a guest room in my home, which as an independent artist, also contains my studio. Your bedding and linens will be clean. I am not a concierge but I am a local who can give you plenty of fun suggestions for your stay, and you will be located very close to active parts of town.
You may be woken up by a secondline parade, you will likely have a conversation with one of my neighbors; isn't this why you are using airbnb? I do everything in my power to make the stay of my guests as enjoyable as possible, and time permitting, I'd love to take you out at least once to show you some spots you may not read about in guidebooks.
I respond to messages in a very timely manner, so please be in touch if you have any questions or concerns.
I look forward to meeting you!!

Lawrence was a great host. He was easy to get in touch with and was flexible with our check in and check out. He has a very clean and friendly space, I would definitely try and stay at his place next time I am in New Orleans.
It was great staying at here, I didn't get to see Lawerence but he was very accommodating since my flight was delayed and let me come in a little later in the night. The place is walkable to Frenchmen and the quarter. Would totally recommend to anyone else.
This was a uniquely wonderful airbnb experience! Lawrence was an amazing host who not only told us great spots to go in New Orleans, he showed us around the city. The room was private from the rest of the apartment and everything was within walking distance. If you're looking for a fun New Orleans experience, this is the place to go.
Lawrence and his roommate were quite accommodating. The room fit my girlfriends and I well enough to sleep comfortably and to get ready. The listing is quite close to anything you would want to do in New Orleans. It could be awkward walking through someone else's room to reach the bathroom or your room, but as long as you are respectful it isn't too bad. I would recommend this place for a place to sleep only, nothing more, nothing less.
Location might look sketchy but we (3 guys) have never felt unsafe even at night, just walk towards the french quarter (10-15 min), not in the other direction lol
Room is kinda small for 3 people, good for 2 but it's New Orleans so you don't really spend much time there anyway. Not fancy at all but it has a bed and an air mattress, a small couch with a coffee table and some furniture for your stuff.
It's a little weird that you have to walk into other people's room to get to the bathroom but one had a curtain and the other room guests were almost never there so it was ok.
Bathroom was ok, I wouldn't complain about the cleanliness as others did. Towels were available along with linens and coffee/tea.
We barely saw Lawrence but when he welcomed us he gave us lots of tips and I gotta admit we should have followed his advice more and spent less time on Bourbon St and more where he suggested.
His cat Snack is a great entertainment.
Internet works really well.
If you have money you can get a place that is more private and bigger but Lawrence's place is a good deal, especially if you don't plan on spending much time at home.
Staying at Lawrence's was good while it lasted! We had to leave suddenly after the first night but he was a great host! His room was everything he offered and was close to the FQ which was great. The only downside was the door didn't close all the way and the makeshift lock kept falling out of the door. Other than that it was a good stay.
Lawrence was very friendly and nice but the house had an overwhelming odor of mildew. Also, you could not close the door to the room.
I had a wonderful time living at Lawrence's apartment. Even though I got to see him only for a while, he was very cool.
The room was clean when we reached there. The house is 10 mins from Frenchman street and is walking distance from the french quarter. Neighborhood kind of look shady at first but its not bad at all. I walked back home at 3 every night and it was all fine. Everything went fine and my trip went smoothly. However we did have a small confusion at the end and we had to check out at 9:30 AM but Lawrence was nice enough to let us keep our stuff in the apartment till we were ready to leave.
I would recommend it for anyone who is looking for a nice affordable room. Its worth the price.
Thanks again Lawrence for letting us stay. :)
Lawrence was really nice and helpful! He gave us a lot of awesome suggestions! The house is located in a residential area very close to the city center (only 10 min walking), and it is suitable to meet new people who are sleeping there. The bedrooms are spacious e comfortable. Only one black mark: the bathroom could be cleaner. Overall, an absolutely amazing experience!
