A great room with a king size bed just a few blocks from the French Quarter and Marigny. Can include bicycle loan as well!
Hi! I'm Lawrence-- local fashion/costume designer, resident of seven years of the down-to-earth and widely diverse New Marigny neighborhood, and I'm excited to share my city with you! Last minute reservations are more than welcome!
This listing is for the private, spacious, upstairs master bedroom of a three bedroom home. The room has a dresser, book shelf, full length mirror and closet all available for your use, as well as a work desk. The house is an historic shotgun style home, which if you are unfamiliar, means that there are no hallways and you may walk through other people's sleeping spaces to use the bathroom or kitchen, however, your room is private and no one will be walking through it
I also have an adorable kittie which I love to share with guests.
The house is about a hundred years old and the downstairs has beautiful hardwood floors. I have central heat and air and wireless internet. The kitchen is open for your use and the bathroom is fully stocked. I don't have a washer and dryer, but I am very close to several neighborhood laundromats. There is no television in the home, but I have plenty of books you are welcome to borrow, Netflix you can use, and let's be real here, it's New Orleans! I promise you won't be bored. :) I also have a very large manicured backyard with chairs, citrus trees and a pecan tree which you are more than welcome to use for relaxation. I don't allow smoking inside my home, but the backyard and front stoop are open for your use.
Interaction with Guests
You may be woken up by a secondline parade, you will likely have a conversation with one of my neighbors; isn't this why you are using airbnb? I do everything in my power to make the stay of my guests as enjoyable as possible, and time permitting, I'd love to take you out at least once to show you some spots you may not read about in guidebooks.
I respond to messages in a very timely manner, so please be in touch if you have any questions or concerns.
I look forward to meeting you!!
My neighborhood is not swanky or upscale. It is an authentic, historic residential area where young artists and old families call home. It is more affordable than a Vieux Carre hotel because it is a guest room in my home, which as an independent artist, also contains my studio. Your bedding and linens will be clean. I am not a concierge but I am a local who can give you plenty of fun suggestions for your stay, and you will be located very close to active parts of town.
Your future room is located on the riverside of the Seventh ward (also known as the New Marigny. It's five blocks from the beautiful and bustling French Quarter, four blocks from the Marigny/Frenchmen Street jazz clubs and art markets, and only one block away from the up and coming St. Claude Arts district. My house is nestled between Treme and St. Roch, and walking distance from the Bywater. Though cabs are the easiest way to get from the airport, there are buses only a few blocks away to various parts of town (Canal Street, UNO, Megabus stop, Lower Ninth Ward, Bywater, St. Charles Streetcar, etc) and there are several places nearby where you can rent bikes. If you are driving into town, I have plenty of on-street parking available.
No racism, sexism, homophobia etc. will be tolerated.
If guests wish to have additional people overnight Lawrence must be consulted, and this is generally discouraged.
Ask before adjusting the AC.
If there is any problem, I would love for us to find a solution immediately! Please communicate.
Feel free to come home at any time of day/night.
Lawrence and his friends made us feel very welcome in their home. He was flexible with our arrival and departure time, trusting, and accommodating. The description is accurate and honest. As Lawrence told us, it isn't the fanciest, but the private room and beds were comfortable. There were plenty of clean towels and pillowcases, etc. It is a good deal in a great location within minutes of nice Marigny neighborhood restaurants and Frenchmen St. venues -- even nicer when the streetcar along St. Claude is finished! We were fine walking home at night. We enjoyed talking to Lawrence and his co-worker about their art.
Besides waiting for the bathroom -- which is to be expected once or twice -- the only major downside of our experience was the fact that the cat bit my mom twice and me once, drawing blood each time, on two different days. It must be said that the cat had birthed kittens the day we arrived, but we did not get anywhere near the kittens, never saw them. We only pet Snack when she rubbed against our legs. We even fed her when she had no food, yet she still attacked our legs without warning. All three times were in the kitchen, two rooms away from where the kittens were. Not sure why this happened to us, as we are cat people! We couldn't have guessed it would happen because she seemed quite sweet when we pet her. I guess it was just the timing of her birthing and her not getting out enough or not being taken care of while she took care of the kittens (because Lawrence & friends were not awake or around when she bit us and others have only said nice things about Snack), but it sure was unfortunate! At least they had alcohol and bandages stocked for use!
Lawrence was a good host. Didn't see him much, but didn't mind me and my friend coming home at any hour, you know New Orleans style. The area was a bit Ghetto but was a great walking distance to the French Quarter. The house was basic and a bit run down. But for what we needed was perfect. Comfortable bed at the end of each day. Priced fairly and location was good for what I needed. No complaints here. Thanks Lawrence!
Lawrence's home is in a great location, 15 minute walk to bourbon street. The room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom situation however was a little odd having to cut through another room that people were staying in. Our first night the house had 8 people in it and only one bathroom which proved challenging and less than ideal having to walk through other people's space to get to the bathroom downstairs.
Lawrence was a friendly host who let us to have free access to the house anytime we want. The location is great for walking to the french quarter. Parking is ample and free. Neighborhood could look sketchy but nth happened during our midnight walk. Do not expect to see a very clean place but heck you won't remember a thing the next morning. Would recommend for a cheap stay for guys.
It wasn't the standard I am used to with Airbnb but was just about adequate for me to lay down my head for 2 nights. I did not meet Lawrence but his friend, was there to give me a key. Said friend slept on a couch in front room. One has to walk through front room to get to the bathroom and kitchen and when entering/leaving through the front door. Seemed odd to have someone sleeping in a public area of the house.
When we arrived Lawrence wasn't there because I didnt tell him a exact time, so it wasn't really a problem that the bed was not ready for us. But after we saw the room, me and my friend left because the whole house was too dirty, we just didnt fell comfortable to stay there and is this area. I was dissapointed but I'm glad airbnb could help us right away to find something better!
An old house with lots of character. The private room upstairs was great for my two girlfriends and me - king bed and fold out futon. Prime location for biking and walking around! Lawrence was a great host, allowing you privacy and ability to come and go as you please. His coworkers and friend, who are there often, are also all very kind, easy to get along with. He came out with us after a long week of mardis gras festivities - definitely knows the ins and outs, to do's and not to do's. Which are really helpful if you want to fit in with a local crowd! So glad for the experience, I will for sure be keeping him in mind every time I travel through NOLA and even extended the invitation to my own home turf in Humboldt.

My name is Lawrence. I am originally from Boston, Massachusetts, and have been here in New Orleans for six or so years. I tend to spend my time bicycling, crafting leather work, and out and about in New Orleans. I can often be found at the Karaoke bar around the corner; once in a while I'll even sing a song. I usually attempt to make sure to invite guests out with me if I'm dong anything interesting, but I also spend a decent amount of time staying in. I enjoy playing board games and card games regularly. I generally don't eat animals, but don't have a problem with guests doing so.
