About this listing
A great room with a king size bed just a few blocks from the French Quarter and Marigny. Can include bicycle loan as well!
Hi! I'm Lawrence-- local fashion/costume designer, resident of seven years of the down-to-earth and widely diverse New Marigny neighborhood, and I'm excited to share my city with you! Last minute reservations are more than welcome!
This listing is for the private, spacious, upstairs master bedroom of a three bedroom home. The room has a dresser, book shelf, full length mirror and closet all available for your use, as well as a work desk. The house is an historic shotgun style home, which if you are unfamiliar, means that there are no hallways and you may walk through other guests' sleeping spaces to use the one bathroom or kitchen. However your room is private and no one will be walking through it.
I also have an adorable kittie which I love to share with guests.
The house is about a hundred years old and the downstairs has beautiful hardwood floors. I have central heat and air and wireless internet. The kitchen is open for your use and the bathroom is fully stocked. I don't have a washer and dryer, but I am very close to several neighborhood laundromats. There is no television in the home, but I have plenty of books you are welcome to borrow, Netflix you can use, and let's be real here, it's New Orleans! I promise you won't be bored. :) I also have a very large manicured backyard with chairs, citrus trees and a pecan tree which you are more than welcome to use for relaxation. I don't allow smoking inside my home, but the backyard and front stoop are open for your use.
Interaction with Guests
You may be woken up by a secondline parade, you will likely have a conversation with one of my neighbors; isn't this why you are using airbnb? I do everything in my power to make the stay of my guests as enjoyable as possible, and time permitting, I'd love to take you out at least once to show you some spots you may not read about in guidebooks.
I respond to messages in a very timely manner, so please be in touch if you have any questions or concerns.
I look forward to meeting you!!
My neighborhood is not swanky or upscale. It is an authentic, historic residential area where young artists and old families call home. It is more affordable than a Vieux Carre hotel because it is a guest room in my home, which as an independent artist, also contains my studio. Your bedding and linens will be clean. I am not a concierge but I am a local who can give you plenty of fun suggestions for your stay, and you will be located very close to active parts of town.
Your future room is located on the riverside of the Seventh ward (also known as the New Marigny. It's five blocks from the beautiful and bustling French Quarter, four blocks from the Marigny/Frenchmen Street jazz clubs and art markets, and only one block away from the up and coming St. Claude Arts district. My house is nestled between Treme and St. Roch, and walking distance from the Bywater. Though cabs are the easiest way to get from the airport, there are buses only a few blocks away to various parts of town (Canal Street, UNO, Megabus stop, Lower Ninth Ward, Bywater, St. Charles Streetcar, etc) and there are several places nearby where you can rent bikes. If you are driving into town, I have plenty of on-street parking available.
Other Things to Note
My house includes multiple guest rooms, and it is very possible that you will meet other travelers during your stay. If you come in a large group, keep in mind that the single bathroom can at times be highly sought-after. To repeat: There is another Airbnb listing my home, if you are concerned about the number of guest sharing one bath please ask me about this before you book.
No racism, sexism, homophobia etc. will be tolerated.
If guests wish to have additional people overnight Lawrence must be consulted, and this is generally discouraged.
Ask before adjusting the AC.
If there is any problem, I would love for us to find a solution immediately! Please communicate.
Feel free to come home at any time of day/night.
I did not have a nice time at Lawrence's house. His home did not look ANYTHING like the photos he has up. His house was not clean, there were several more cats there than I had expected (what he wrote on his listing); as a result cat litter was all over the floor and I found fleas both on the cats and ON MY LEGS, his kitchen was not FULLY stocked as promised (no aluminum foil or microwave so I couldn't reheat anything I had drunkily bought the night before). There is someone living in both the living room closet to the kitchen, and then someone else living in a small closet like room right off the kitchen where the "backyard" door is. The backyard mentioned, was blocked off, apparently there was an entrance through the alley, but I couldn't find it. When I arrived and saw the place I began looking through his older reviews and noticed that many people had felt the same way and his responses to their concerns were harsh and condescending so I didn't bother trying to communicate with him and instead called airbnb. There were no other rooms in my area/price range on such short notice so I had to stay there. DEALING WITH THIS BULLSHIT ON VACATION WAS NOT FUN. After my stay, I asked Lawrence for a refund because his home/description are not what Is advertised and he REFUSED. Lawrence seems to think that my desire for a refund was something I planned in order to con my way in to a free place to stay for vacation. why would someone do that? being in his home was stressful and gross and uncomfortable and ALL OF THE THINGS A VACATION IS NOT SUPPOSSED TO BE. oh, I never met Lawrence either. I believe that he is like 'Charlie' from Charlie's Angels. A speaker box people call/the face of the home that no one ever meets. He doesn't live in the home listed, didn't mention he wouldn't be there, didn't tell me someone else would be taking care of us, and didn't check in to make sure we were fine and frankly didn't seem t care at all until I began complaining.
It was a last minute request. I didn't have the chance to meet Lawrence. The room was clean, however I felt a little uncomfortable to pass through other people's rooms (and privacy) to access my room and the bathroom. Ok for a short stay.
Room was nice and just as described. I was not able to stay long, but it was a comfortable place. The other folks staying there were nice as well.
Lawrence and his housemate were welcoming and friendly. The place itself is really close to Bourbon Street which is convenient. Other reviews have said that it's dangerous to walk home at night but I think they're just stereotyping the neighbourhood, we had no problems whatsoever.
Didn't spend the night due to a family emergency but the house is in a great location. The cats are adorable and has a great selection of games. We definitely suggest staying here.

About the Host, Lawrence
My name is Lawrence. I am originally from Boston, Massachusetts, and have been here in New Orleans for six or so years. I tend to spend my time bicycling, crafting leather work, and out and about in New Orleans. I can often be found at the Karaoke bar around the corner; once in a while I'll even sing a song. I usually attempt to make sure to invite guests out with me if I'm dong anything interesting, but I also spend a decent amount of time staying in. I enjoy playing board games and card games regularly. I generally don't eat animals, but don't have a problem with guests doing so.
