The space
This is a very unique 22,000 sqft facility in a country setting. Come enjoy our slice of animal lover's and nature lover's paradise. Lobby has Direct TV, ping pong, pool table, air hockey, bar. Lobby can be converted to workout room with rowing machine, stationary bike and weights. The building has horse stalls and a large riding arena viewable from Apt. 3's dining room and from the lobby. (equuarium).
Chestnut mtn. is 0.9 miles from our place to the bottom of the slopes or 3.3 miles to the parking lot at the top of the mountain. If you have your own ski gear you can catch the lift from the bottom.
In fall and spring migrating water fowl fly over and hang out in the river in front of us. Geese, pelicans and ducks are common sights for about 4 months of the year.

A beautiful one mile walk along River Road has breathtaking views of the Mississippi. Many species of wildflowers bloom all along the road. Wild mulberry trees and raspberry bushes offer snacks. Sheer rock cliffs and wonderful wooded areas filled with wildlife. Chestnut Mountain ski resort has a pier from which you can watch the sunset over the water.

We often have campfires where we tell stories and sing songs under the stars.. we provide the firewood. If you play a musical instrument please bring it. I have some guitars you can borrow if you can’t bring your own. This is a great way for kids to overcome their fear of public speaking.

We have a large horse watering tank that we use to cool off in summer. It holds three adults or four kids at a time. We also have garden hoses you can use to spray your husband while he is grilling the steaks.

Did I mention we have horses? They love being petted.

More info at RiverviewRnR.com.

Guest access
Guests will have exclusive use of Apt. 3. It is about 1300 sqft of living space.

Guests are not allowed in horse stall area/ riding areas or in pastures without a signed liability waiver and accompanied by a wrangler. (Roger or Sabina). Guests may pet horses over the fence unaccompanied, at their own risk. Please do not feed fingers to the horses or let them step on your feet.

Also please do not enter apt 1 or 2, the downstairs kitchen or the lobby office. Owners occupy these private spaces.

Feel free to use the lobby. We will pass through the lobby often.

Other things to note
Please do not enter any horse enclosures unless my wife or I authorize it and accompany you. Also, we need a signed liability waiver before any guests are allowed to do equine activities such as horseback riding.

Sniff and Greet:

Our Dogs get excited when new people come so we ask that you allow them a short sniff and greet when you arrive. Be patient and move slowly, and win their trust.

The dogs are more comfortable meeting guests outside than in the confines of the building. Our German Shepard, Bessie, is very friendly but she is also a pretty good guard dog. If she senses that you are not right for some reason, she might bark at you. If she does bark at you, just do what she tells you to do. She is a German Shepard so she can be a little intimidating if you are afraid of dogs. If anyone in your group is afraid of dogs please let us know and we will have the sniff and greet with one dog at a time and keep very tight control of the dogs. It is best to just relax and move slowly and let her sniff you. Once she gets your scent and you pet her she can become your best buddy very quickly. Doggy treats help. Our dogs like the real meat treats best. They are spoiled and the dry cookie treats don't seem to get their attention like those wonderful dried meat treats. (Doggy treats are optional) Nala, our mini Dachshund tends to bark directly at strangers for about three to five minutes, backing up as she barks, and then she starts to warm up and come in for the snuggles. Pepper, our Yorkie mix breed likes to bark at the stars, the sun, the clouds and the surrounding trees for about 30 seconds and then he runs in for near immediate snuggles.

If weather is not good for an outdoor sniff and greet we can do it in the lobby.

If we are not home when you arrive, we will put the dogs in our apartment (apt 2 at the top of the stairs) and we will coordinate with you through airbnb to give access to the lobby and apt 3 at the top of the stairs.

In summer we attack mosquitos aggressively with multiple bug zappers. Even though we are close to the river the bugs are not bad. In summer we recommend bringing bug spray anyway. Some of them sneak past our zappers.

We have seven friendly horses and three friendly dogs. We are next door to exquisite dining at the Goldmoor Inn. We are less than a mile from the Chestnut Mountain Ski slopes. Chestnut has a nice restaurant. The city of Galena is a scenic six mile drive or bicycle ride away. There is a boat landing and at Blanding Landing - 15 min drive. There are numerous other nearby attractions. See our guidebook for more info. We enjoy walking up and down River road. There are great bicycling trails nearby. Wildlife abounds. Great kayaking. If you enjoy painting horses bring your art supplies and set up an easel in the pasture while horses graze around you.

I am a former US Marine fighter pilot. My wife Sabina is from Germany. We are empty nesters with a big nest. We live in apt 2 and rent apt 3. Apt 1 is under renovation.
During your stay
We live on the premises in apt 2. Apt 1 is being renovated and is not available. We often enjoy campfires and welcome guests to join us. We ride horses regularly. We welcome you to observe our horses through the equuarium. We welcome observers to watch us ride and train the horses. If you need something just text or call or knock on the door of apt 2. If we don’t respond we are probably in the stables or in the pasture area or in the lobby office. Just holler for us. If you'd like to meet the horses face to face please ask us to introduce you to them.
