I will be happy to help make your stay in New York incredible!
You will be in quintessential neighborhood in the city’s highest concentration of major museums, very close to Central Park, steps to the 96th street subway station, grocery stores, lots of nearby restaurants/bars and close to the city center's top tourist attractions.
Museum Mile is named for Fifth Avenue running from 82nd to 103rd Streets which contains nine (9) museums such as: Metropolitan Museum (82 St), Guggenheim (88 St), Design Museum (91 St), Museum of NY (103 St) and many more.
The apartment is in pre-war building on the top-floor (penthouse) so there are stairs to walk up to this old-world charm.
You will feel at home in this lovely upper east side neighborhood but still within 10-15 minutes of hectic midtown for all the tourist attractions.
Please see "MAPS" on the top above apartment pictures for the many restaurant recommendations in the neighborhood within walking distance from the apartment.
The architecture of the neighborhood in Carnegie Hill includes apartment buildings along Park Avenue and Fifth Avenue, brownstones (with stoops) and townhouses on the side streets, condos, co-ops and a handful of mansions, some of which are now used by the Cooper-Hewitt Museum and the National Academy of Design.
The location is perfect for transportation.
Subway/train is only 1 block away on 96 St & Lexington making it easily accessible (within 10-20 minutes) to top attractions such as Times Square, Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, Union Square & Grand Central.
Street parking and nearby parking garage available
Great time spent in NYC. Sam's apartment is a great place to be to visit the city. Near the line 6 of the subway that go up and down in the city, it make the things easy. Also very near of Central Park and museum mile what are nice place to walk. The apartment is very nice, with food and US TV to relax after a hard day of visits...
- Close to central park, subway, grocery stores, local amenties etc
- Hosts provided more than enough basic necessities ie milk, sugar, salt, body soap, extra towels etc which is not common in short rentals (thank you!!)
- Hosts were easy to communicate with and very organised (they have a manual in the apartment which provides info of just about everything you will need)
- The sunroof leaked water into the apartment after a heavy snow storm. Suref came to the apartment the next morning with the building supervisor and I didn’t experience any water leaking into the apartment from there on
- No lifts
- Kitchen is really small – I had no choice but to rest the chopping board on top of the gas stove
-There is heating in the building but it still felt cold and its not adjustable (please note that I am anaemic). The heating also makes a hissing sound which can get a bit annoying after some time.
Due to the fact it’s a pre-war building, it doesn’t have a very modern feel (except for the wooden flooring). I would recommend this apartment to someone who was renting alone – could feel a bit small if theres 2 + guests staying here for a considerable amount of time
This apartment is in a fantastic location.
If you are looking for Central Park, Museums and easy subway access, you simply won't find better.
Central Park and Museum Mile are about 3 mins walk and the 96 Lex subway station is about 2 mins walk. This subway line runs north/south along Lexington and will drop you at all the sights of New York in a matter of minutes.
There is a great coffee shop downstairs, as well as several cool little bars close by. Grocery stores are aplenty with several just moments away including a 24hr pharmacy/grocery and a gourmet food market.
The apartment is very comfortable with nice new bed linen and towels. Our stay was in winter and the heating system is brilliant. The hot water is also perfect and has excellent water pressure!
The kitchen is fully equipped if you want to cook for yourself however we had take out or ate at one of the many great restaurants around the area.
There is a big HD TV with cable and high end sound system.
The wifi is high speed and a breeze to log into.
Sam is an excellent host and was accommodating to every request we had. She replied promptly to emails and check in was a breeze.
This apartment provided us with all the comforts of home and provided the perfect base for our first time in NYC!
Highly recommended, we will be back.
Very well situated apartment (in 2 blocks of Central Park and 1 block of the subway) and typical because very former with beautiful red bricks wall. Impeccable cleanliness and kindly attentions in the fridge and the wine bottle; and very good welcome. The only negative point is the sound and thermal insolation in the bedroom because of the window (which should be changed this winter) and 5 floors on foot make a good training for legs... I recommend it to you provided that the problem of insolation is solved.
Sam was very accomodating and helpful. We were able to reach him for any concerns. His place was clean and well located. Access to the roof was nice on summer evening. We were 2 New Zealanders on first trip to NYC. Would definitely stay here again!
The place is exactly like in the pictures, confortable, clean and perfect for two people. Maybe just miss a little table to eat,but has everything you need. It s in a great position ,very close to the metro(2 min) and to central park (5-8 min) . It has just two little disadvantages :it s a fifth floor without elevator (but Sam s husband helped us with the buggages) and the train noise from the bedroom window.
Sam and her husband are very gentle and fast to answer to our email/questions/request
We used the place for 8days and we had a great experience
We had a wonderful stay in this apartment a whole week. Location is perfect and quiet for Manhattan, close to the subway and the park for runners like us. The hosts are very welcoming and helpful. I can't think of anything I missed. Would definitely stay there again!
Sam was very quick in responding to all questions (big and small) and provided great tips and suggestions on what to see/do in New York. She's put together a great information binder for her guests use (MTA, alternative means of transportation, nearby restaurants and grocery store listings). Anticipating her guests immediate needs, Sam kindly stocked the fridge with bottled water, orange juice, bagels and other little goodies. Midway through our weeklong stay, Sam contacted us to see how we were enjoying New York and to see if we had everything we need. We did.
The apartment is comfy, cozy and clean. As mentioned in other reviews, water pressure in the shower was great and the bed is comfy. You may hear an occasional train passing by or sirens but that's city noise. The building itself is well maintained and quiet. The apartment is a fifth floor of a walk-up so there are stairs to climb ( a consideration for those who have mobility issues but would be totally fine for most people).
Check-in and checkout was smooth. Sam's husband met us at the apartment and came down to help us with our bags. Checking out, we just cleaned up after ourselves, left the keys in the apartment and sent Sam a text letting her know we left.
Convenient location, 2 blocks away from Central Park, a block away from the metro stop (no. 6 train) and the bustop to catch the M96 crosstown bus that takes you to Central Park West (metro stop for the nos. 1, 2 and 3 trains and a WholeFoods).
WiFi worked great and great media centre (email hidden) and lots of channels. Books and DVDs were also available for enjoyment.
We would recommend Sam's apartment to anyone who asks and the only reason we might not go back to Sam's apartment on our next visit is if we decide to try out another of New York's amazing neighbourhoods.
Sam's apartment is really great and conveniently located. Sam and her husband were also most helpful with enquiries as well as early check in. They really went the extra mile to assist with queries before as well as during our stay, and her husband also helped with carrying our luggage which was great. Most convenient about the place is the close proximity to the Subway and also Central Park.
