Stay in one of the most beautiful, safe, and walkable parts of Philly while enjoying the peace and quiet of our lovely finished basement.

The Space

Hardwood floors, recessed lighting, and 2 petite windows make the space feel cozy without being cramped. Important note- this is a basement room with a narrow and fairly steep set of stairs (as is common in older Philly buildings).

Now with a real king size bed! There is also a futon couch with a real mattress (formerly the primary bed) which is great for relaxing in the privacy of your room, or folding out if you have more than 2 guests (or prefer separate beds).

This room contains a 1/2 sized refrigerator with separate freezer, big enough to keep some groceries, ice-cream, or your favorite beverage.

Check in is flexible, check out is before noon (dropping off bags early or leaving bags in our living room later is fine). Exceptions are possible, please ask when making your reservation.

Our apartment is in a gorgeous brownstone with parquet floors (hardwood in the basement) and original details like crown molding. High ceilings, high speed wireless internet, and a compact but very functional kitchen round out the space.

Guest Access

You're welcome to use the kitchen and livingroom. There's a Whole Foods and a Superfresh within 1.5 blocks if you want to save money by eating in. We even have our cabinets labeled so you will know where everything is.

We have the following amenities available to our guests: coffee, tea, tourism information, maps, transit schedules, local restaurant menus, an iron, hair dryer and well as soap, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion.

Interaction with Guests

We have a friendly, cuddly cat named Cheeba. He's an older fellow so he mostly takes naps and looks out the windows. He will be your new best friend if you pet him; he adores attention! He isn't allowed in the guest rooms, though. We keep a clean house, and the hardwood floors help, but those with pet allergies be warned: this is Cheeba's house too.

The Neighborhood

We're just outside the gayborhood, 1.5 blocks north of South Street, 4 blocks from the Italian Market, and Washington Square Park is only 4 blocks away. We're 1 block from Pennsylvania Hospital, 2 blocks from Jefferson Neuroscience and the Kimmel Cancer Center, and 5 blocks from Jefferson Hospital.

Shopping- We're surrounded by fantastic shops from the affordable Philly Aids Thrift to the fancy Jeweler's Row, Antique Row, and Chestnut Street shopping district.

Restaurants- We're surrounded by some of the BEST restaurants in Philly, from cheese steaks to Egyptian food, and something in every price range.

Please check out our guidebook on this listing for more details about our neighborhood.

Getting around

We're 5 blocks from the Broad street line, 7 short blocks from the Market Street line and PATCO, and 1 block from several bus lines. There's so much to do in the area you may not even need to leave the neighborhood.

Other Things to Note

Smoke free home, and we are LGBTQIA and alternative relationship friendly. We're very child friendly but not child-proofed, and the room is large enough to hold a traveling crib or playpen.

  • Really great place, Lissa was really helpful and extremely generous with her time. Great communication and was located in such a great neighbourhood.

  • Lissa was our host during the stay. She was really really helpfull and friendly, with what to do, where to go, where to look for parking, etc. (We didn't fint any free parking in the streets- but its possible, so we parked in a nearby parkinggarage). And she has the cutest cat.
The location of the apartment is close to South street, where we found some cool bars, record store, etc.

    Will book again!

  • Lissa was great! She was lovely to speak to and was open to answering any touristy questions I threw her way. The listing was exactly as advertised and close to many things. I loved the cat!

  • The place was great, our host was gracious and kind and provided us with a breadth of knowledge on Philadelphia's sites and sounds. The location was easy enough to walk between most of the historical locations and not far from good food. All in all it was a comfortable and secure place to stay, would recommend!

  • Very centrally located and great communication with the hosts. Overall a positive experience

    May 2014
  • Our stay at Lissa's place was fantastic. Myself and 3 friends stayed in the basement bedroom, the beds were comfortable, and we were provided with fresh towels and complimentary coffee! Lissa was a great host, very polite and friendly and a very interesting person to hang out with. The location of the flat was great, with the busy restaurant/nightlife district of south street only 2 blocks away, and the main town/historic area only a 10 minute walk. I'd definitely stay again, thanks!
