We really enjoyed our stay at Rita 's Trullo. Rita and her husband looked after us and offered some local delicacies while we were there. The trullo is located in the valley near Martina Franca at only 5 min. from the town center. Perfect place for a quality stay in a relaxing environment. There is a kitchen and this allowed us to eat in the garden both nights of our stay. We will surely go there again and recommend this place to everyone, also to the ones who would like to stop here for a long while. It is situated in the middle of the Valle Di Itria and this allows short trips to visit other Italian beauties like Ostuni, Locorotondo and the most famous Alberobello.
The trullo is ideally located, not far from the town of Martina Franca (a four-minute drive will do it), in the middle of the Valle d’Itria. It is in the countryside, away from the hustle and bustle of the town. The owners, Rita and Giovanni are an absolutely nice couple, ready to give you tons of information as to where to go, what to eat, and where to shop, without being over-present. If you ever need anything and you can’t speak Italian, just find the main words on any online translation site, and they (or the very nice lady who helps them with the house chores) will help you right away.
As for the trullo itself, it is spacious and clean. Sure, a couple of improvements (especially in the bathroom) might make it even more enjoyable. If you’re easily awoken, just bring ear-plugs. But the overall impression is very good. The kitchen is well equipped, with a gas stove, and fridge and a freezer. And what a pleasure to have breakfast on the terrace in the summer, in the shade of those trees!
We had an excellent time with Rita, they were perfect hostswho brought us little italian treats in the evening. If you have a car the area is gorgous. Xx
Our stay at the Trullo was very nice. Giovanni and Rita were very helpful. They rang us to make sure our late arrival was safe. They provided all sorts of local information at the property and offered to help us with the grill - and even buy the fresh fish for us. In addition to this, they offered us some of their homemade pasta and a souvenir upon our departure. The property is spacious but may need some improving in terms of cleanliness and, well, smell. The Trullo being old, there was a constant musty smell which, though part of the general atmosphere, was not very pleasant. The property is well located.
Gentile Sig.
Rita and Giovanni are the kindest and warmest hosts, but their English (and French) is not so good. Communicating is difficult. In advance we requested directions to the trullo. We only received coordinates, not the full address and directions (we don't like to use a navigation system). As you can imagine the address is not really standard and the beautiful old streets are quite a matrix. Though the trullo is located perfectly close to Martina Franca. We also didn't know they had dogs and cats. Sweet dogs, but with the heavy thunder and rain they were barking all night. The accommodation itself didn't feel really clean (bugs in the kitchen cabinets, out dated and old blankets, musty smell etc.). Of course the weather wasn't perfect and probably the musty smell was less with more sunshine and you would live more outside , but still it didn't fit into the expectations of the photo's, the descriptions and the reviews. We had booked for 5 days, but left after 2 nights (with less sleep because of the dogs).
We had a great time at Trulli House, once we found it! It isn't really difficult once you know how but by the time we got there we were tired and frustrated. Rita made us lunch -- delicious home-cooked spaghetti and meatballs. We gathered our forces and went into town, did sightseeing and dinner, and had such a peaceful night that we overslept into mid-morning. We tried to pay for lunch when we left but she wouldn't hear of it. The place is clean, warm, well laid out, and quiet. WiFi does not work well inside the unit but is fine outside; Rita offered us the use of her terrace. Breakfast was not abundant but this can easily be remedied by buying a little food the day before.
Rita and Giovanni are the most charming and friendly of hosts. They will go out of their way to help you and give you advice, even if one's inability to speak Italian means most of it goes over your head. Their warmth, openness and hospitality was of the first order, completely in contrast to the accommodation, cold, cluttered, inconvenient and poorly maintained, with no wifi service insitu.
Charming and thoughtful gifts on our departure, of course, but I wish we could have communicated how disappointed we were and all the many details thereof.
