Dedicated to Studebaker's Avanti, designed by Raymond Loewy, the original "Mad Man." A beautifully restored house across town from Notre Dame. Directly across from Studebaker Museum. A 10 min walk thru historic district to downtown food & drinks.

The space

6 bedrooms: 2 masters with private showers and 4 with half baths and a shared common shower. 11 twin beds and 1 double sleeps 13 people. We can set up a comfy air mattress to make it 14. Living room, dining room, and kitchen creates a great space for entertaining small events. Large backyard for cookouts and private parking around back.

These rooms are also rented individually, and, as a result, the whole house may not be available. Please contact us well in advance to see if the entire house is available. On "event weekends" (e.g., ND home games), we will require a 2 night minimum rental.

Renting multiple rooms in the house is also an option, but these details need to be negotiated by Airbnb message.

Guest access

Guests share a common living room, dining room and a well-equipped kitchen (electric skillet, countertop convection oven, microwave). The living room includes a flat panel TV with basic channels.

Interaction with guests

Guests should alert the caretaker by Airbnb message when they intend to arrive. Typically, Don or Micah/Jill will meet you and show you the house upon your arrival. It is possible, however, that nobody may be available to meet you upon your arrival (especially if you arrive very late or over a holiday). In that case, we will work out the details of your arrival beforehand. Guests will be given relevant pass codes and keys.

Otherwise, you have as much privacy or interaction as you wish. Although we love meeting new people, sometimes guests come and go little or no interaction with us because of their plans. Whatever you need is OK with us!

Other things to note

- ND Football and other event weekends (e.g., graduation): We ask that guests book a 2 night minimum.
- Long-term stays: if you are interested in staying for a week or more, please message us for details. We have had guests stay in the past for up to 3 months. Our kitchen is also equipped to prepare small meals.

We are located 2.8 miles from Notre Dame, a five minute walk to a gym/pool, and a 10 minute walk to Silverhawks minor league baseball stadium. There is also a laundromat and discount grocery across the street.

Great place for a bunch of friends getting together for a football weekend (we had the whole place). We had older kids which made us appreciate all the bedrooms and bathrooms; little kids might have a hard time keeping hands off the memorabilia throughout the house. The hosts were so helpful and immediately responded for anything we needed. The house is in a nice area and a short drive to campus, plenty of parking. A fun place to stay!

We stayed at the Avanti house for my sons graduation from Notre Dame. It allowed 10 of us to be there comfortably and we even had some friends join us for an evening meal. Micah was available within less than five minutes for any of my questions. The great value!

The description was fairly accurate -- this was definitely an Avanti museum. It felt like we were staying at a museum. This was good and bad. There were a lot of interesting things to see and read about the Avanti and Studebaker automobiles. However, the house is not really a comfortable place to hang out in. There was no sofa or comfortable chairs. That was OK because we stayed there for an ND football game weekend with a bunch of guys and we were barely there. If you are staying for an ND game, you will need to take a taxi or Uber to campus. Micah the caretaker/host lives right next door. He was very responsive. We had a problem with a toilet and he came over right away. On the whole, it worked for us for the weekend. Interesting old house and museum.

We had a wonderful experience at the Avanti House. Micah (who lives next door and is the caretaker) and Don, the owner, made us feel very welcome. Don gave us a very nice history of the house, South Bend and Avanti cars. The house was very clean and in good condition. The place has a lot of bathrooms and showers! I felt like the house was just as advertised. The neighborhood features a lot of beautiful homes and is directly across from the Studebaker museum. We had a lot of different families staying in the house for a Notre Dame football weekend, so the set up with many bedrooms and bathrooms really worked well for us. Overall everyone enjoyed the experience.

Great house and location. The house is in a quiet beautiful historic neighborhood with plenty of parking. Wonderful layout for a group of college friends getting together for a visit to ND. The private bedrooms and shared common space make for a much better experience than booking multiple hotel rooms. The house was also well stocked with basic necessities (soap, shampoo, towels, dishware, etc.) With the added bonus of snacks in each room. Being the only Airbnb user in the group, I booked the accommodations but was the last to show up. By the time I arrived, Micah had already checked in with the others and I had received a number of texts complimenting me on the selection. The overall experience sold the others on the Airbnb experience. Staying in a museum type setting only added to the unique local experience you can only get through Airbnb.
