Interaction with Guests
We are there when you need help. But generally we have little interaction. The first day I offer a ride to the closest supermarket, so the new guest can see where all the local stores and services are and the guest can fill up their fridge.
It IS really a section of NYC, but it is also like a small village. We have lots of light, friendly neighbors, birds. BUT we are 7 minutes to Manhattan and short 10 min. Taxi ride from La Guardia Airport.
The "N" Subway Train is a 5 minute walk from our
House and the train is only 7 minutes to the center of the BEST of Manhattan!
Other Things to Note

If you have one or two children or an occasional visitor willing to sleep on a queen sized sofa bed, that can be permitted after consultation and approval by us.
Me and my husband stayed at Megan's apartment over Christmas, and had such a lovely time. Despite arriving on Christmas Eve, Megan kindly took us to the supermarket to stock up on provisions and gave us tips on places to eat in the local neighbourhood and her favourite spots in Manhattan. The pictures of the apartment are exactly as it is - spacious, clean, well decorated and with a kitchen with all you need. There are 3-4 subway lines only a few minutes walk away which take you straight to 5th Ave and Rockerfeller Center and Brooklyn in only a few minutes so the location is ideal. It was a bit too cold and wet to try out the garden, but it would be great in the summer. I highly recommend Megan's apartment
The firehouse was a perfect retreat for my family while on vacation in NYC. We felt like we were at home versus a hotel. Megan really was a huge help with an initial transport to the grocery store so we weren't having to lug bags all over or pay for a taxi. The subway station is about a 5 minute walk from the house and only about 15 min from LGA airport! Best part... 2 stops from the heart of Manhattan without the over-inflated prices of a small NYC hotel! We felt safe and comfortable in the neighborhood. When we return to NYC we intend on staying here again! Beautiful home!
We had a really great stay with Megan in the Loft. We were given taxi instructions from the airport and greeted at the door on arrival. Megan tool us for a tour of the neighbourhood, where the subway is located (very close to Manhattan and a must to experience the New York vibe) and taken to the grocery store for supplies. Megan kindly helped us with packaging and postal information for an item we had left at our previous hotel. The loft is wonderful, warm and bright, it has everything you need to make you feel at home, including washing machine and dryer. We were so happy with our stay, it really made our week in New York memorable and comfortable. Thanks Megan!
We had the pleasure of staying at Megan and Jack’s place November 15th to the 21st and loved every moment of it. Typically we stay in Manhattan but we were looking for something different and off the beaten track and found The Firehouse on AirBnB. We were drawn to it because of the nice, open layout with a lovely kitchen, living space and bedroom and bonus, a yard with a barbeque (which we christened)!
We found the place perfect. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed. The whole place was decorated beautifully with a relaxing feel to it. The living space, bedroom and bath had all we desired. The bed was like sleeping on a cloud and we are now shopping for a new bed!
Megan and Jack made us feel at home and they are what Texans would call "good people". We will for sure be staying there again and will be recommending it to our friends.
About the Host, Megan
I am a retired designer. I have worked all over the world designing products for the American market, spending many years in Latin America, over 20 working in India and even a stint as a consultant to the People's Republic of China. I know what it's like to work for months at a time far from home. What worked best for me was a balance of 5 star comfort & elegance with some homey familiarity. That is the balance that my husband and I are offering here at The Firehouse. We know this is so important whether you are going to be in New York to put together a business deal or even if you must be here to seek treatment at a local hospital. If ALL you want is privacy, NO PROBLEM! We want you to be comfortable and be served as much as you require so that you return often. For almost 20 years I also had shops in Manhattan and I know that we must earn our customer's loyalty through good service and quality. My husband, Jack, is a retired former partner of a major law firm where he ran corporate. He is a graduate of MIT and NYU law school. Jack can communicate adequately in Spanish, French, Italian, German, some Hebrew and Turkish. I have some rusty Spanish, French and what I call taxi Hindi, which are mainly bad words. We are both 1/2 half Irish and both had mothers named Kathleen and we share the same Birthday!
