The space

Based on insight/recommendations from the CDC, a 48hr. has been added between reservations as an added precaution and self-check in & out only, to minimize person-to-person contact. Our cleaning routine did not require enhancement as we have always taken extra care to clean & disinfect the space and in these times, it is this kind of attention to detail that will help reduce the spread of infection. We continue to sanitize high-touch surfaces, down to doorknobs and light switches. The cleaners/disinfectants used are approved by global health agencies. During the process, we wear protective gear to help prevent cross-contamination. We comply with local laws, including any additional safety or cleaning guidelines. We also still provide extra cleaning supplies which is kept in the home for our guest to be able to use if they wish to.

About my home... No matter what brings you to my Home Away from Home, you'll find an unmatched peaceful experience infused with a relaxed spirit! This newly updated 1950's quaint & comfy home is captivating the heart of Houston with its proximity to Downtown & all major attractions. My home has been setup up with relaxation in mind and escaping the woes of busy lives. There are no televisions in the bedrooms, only the living room to accommodate a restful retreat. Each bedroom offers quiet space and reading nooks as well. There is Wi-Fi high speed connectivity to be able to connect if you wish to on your personal devices as well as make use of the smart TV in the living room. An additional backroom has been added for family/friend time to take you back to the days of playing board games and connecting with your loved ones with friendly competition. Beyond this room is the fully fenced backyard. There is a nice size picnic table for 6 persons and a BBQ pit to enjoy the great outdoors. Two large pecan trees offer shade, except for on winter days and if lucky, on good seasons, you may join in on picking up pecans. Out front, my home is partially fenced with a nice sitting area in the yard for chatting and a small porch to enjoy coffee in the morning. You can take a 15 minute walk which will get you to restaurants/bars, medical center, and all major sports facilities via the public transit. Keep in mind that due to COVID-19, many establishments are still offering curbside service. Also, as of March 2021, all establishments are able to open in the state of Texas at 100% The State of Texas encourages everyone to heed the advice of the CDC and U.S. State Department's travel notices, advisories, and recommendations in order to have a safer and healthier trip. Houston has a lot to offer with many open spaces to enjoy. The best the city has to offer is within a 15 mile radius. Day trips to The Woodlands, Hill Country, Kemah, or Galveston, to name a few, are 1/2 hr to one and 1/2 hr away. With the changes that have taken place due to Corona virus/Covid-19, my home lends itself as a getaway with many eateries nearby offering curbside pickup or delivery, for a day or night in for the couple trying to enjoy some time together or the family on vacation using this time to reconnect!! If you are traveling for a special occasion, please let me know. As a host, this will help me in preparing for your visit. Come explore Houston's inner city neighborhoods in a whole different manner and make new memorable moments!

Attention to detail, spotless, and comfortable. The home’s noise factor is minimal even though within the city limits. This newly renovated home provides you with a convenient but quiet location. In addition to being cozy and pleasant, lots of natural light flows throughout the home. The home comfortably sleeps six persons. There is space for two additional guest for those traveling with small children(must be approved). Please refer to home description. Max occupancy is six persons overnight or for the day, with exception to the additional accommodation that may be made for small children with prior approval. Additional child guest over six people MUST be approved prior to booking. All names of guest are REQUIRED at time of booking. Failure to obtain approval will result in immediate cancellation with no refund & guest will have to leave immediately.

**Please note this home does not include washer/dryer; however, within a very short distance, are many both self-serve and full service laundromats as well as dry cleaners which offer drop-off and pick-up services for your convenience.

All of the the homes spaces & amenities available to the guest are shown on this listing. If you have ANY questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to ask. There is a (work in progress and soon to be a super cute) rear game room area for family friendly fun! Beyond this room is the backyard equipped with picnic table and a BBQ pit. You are welcome to use both additional areas as they are not part of the listing; however, keep in mind, many updates have not been finished. Hoping to start and finish these projects soon. In no way however does this interfere with your enjoyment of my home. These are just spaces that I want to do more to so that my guests can have that much more to enjoy.
Thermostat climate system may be found in the hallway wall to the left of the restroom entrance. You and your guest may control the thermostat directly between 71-78. The home is set up to help conserve energy while away.
Hotel inspired niceties available for your convenience such as shampoo, conditioner, bath wash, and hair dryer. It may all be found in the restroom. There is also an iron and ironing board in the closet of the bedroom located off of the living room.
Towels/washcloths available for each guest for duration of stay.
Beds will be made and ready for your stay. Additional blankets will be in each bedroom closet.
The first aid kit may be found in the restroom closet (please advise if it is used to ensure we replenish it) and the fire extinguisher is located in the kitchen cabinet under the sink.
Fully equipped kitchen. A small trash bin is located under the sink counter as a convenience during any food prep.
In the bedroom with the queen bed is a laptop friendly workstation (desk)
In this same bedroom, inside the closet situated to the right, is a pack and play complete with changing station and an additional mattress insert for an infant to be able to sleep comfortably. In the closet situated to the left is a blow up mattress with pump. It comes complete with blankets/pillow for the use of a small child.

Also, a spread of goodwill has taken place in the home and previous guest leave items that can be used by the next person(s) who stay in the home. You are welcome to them and to participate if you wish; however, under no circumstance should you feel obligated to do so.

Where you’ll be

Houston, Texas, United States

Located within Independence Heights area. A very short drive to the Heights and Oak Forest, and if you are up to venturing via our public transit, the East End is a short rail ride!
Please note, with it being an older neighborhood central and convenient to many Houston attractions, being inner city, we do have the dynamic of a transitional urban community. Friendly neighbors along with mixed use locality. Houston has no zoning laws. There are convenience stores in the area that attract foot traffic around the area, with no direct impact to us or any of our guests. This is an up and coming historically disinvested neighborhood withstanding revitalization due to its proximity to many of the great things this city has to offer. I am happy to take part in beautifying the neighborhood I was born and raised in with Casa Zafiro!

Also, the home thrives with large trees that offer great backyard shade and pecans but with it being Texas, the trees also serve as home to the infamous tree cockroaches who's search for water will bring them into even the cleanest of homes. Please know we do our due diligence with maintenance and pest control to keep them out of our home. These can be just as pesky as the June bugs and mosquitoes! Just things to keep in mind when booking. We want guests to be well informed and rest reassured my home upkeep is of the upmost importance.

Hmmmm, about ME, well my growth obviously has not been in height (all of 5 feet short)but emotional, spiritual, and mind growth. I come from a very large family, and sometimes it seems I am always meeting a new family member, and I love it. Family ties are very strong, and bring me back to my roots, Mexican & Colombian. Which brings me to my children. I am a single mom of 3 and a Nana to my 3 year old granddaughter. My daughter is 22 and my boys are 19 & 16. We have an interesting, yet real relationship, most importantly we love & respect each other. This being said, I am not a person without fault, and I have so much further to go. I enjoy much the journey of learning and experiencing. I think it is somewhat impossible to tell you who I really am; you have to give yourself the opportunity to get to know me and form your own opinion. I can tell you I take pleasure in parenting, creating, designing, writing, dancing, running, working out, cooking, socializing, working, & volunteering, and am fortunate enough to do most of these regularly. For the past 18+ years, I work at a hospital & am an office coordinator for the Cancer Center. I feel fortunate enough to be part of our patients and their families/friends lives during a period of time that is difficult, yet somehow I can find ways to make it somewhat better. I also, have my own small side business of event planning/designing/decorating and this is just a hobby that I share with others and it helps where the pocket is concerned. I am also a life with all its twists & turns...I remain hopeful and keep the faith. If there is something you want to know about me, ask....I will answer, have been warned (; I enjoy going to different places, meeting new people, listening to a large array of music & I'm a foodie. Side note, I take pride in taking care of things, not just mine. As a guest in your place/home, rest assured that it will remain as found. As a host, rest assured I take my guest understanding I've gained through my travels and translate it into your having the best experience possible. ...sorry for the novel, sad thing is I could go on & on.....
