  • Does what it says on the box - Right next to the Sofitel Palais Jamais in Fes el Bali. We had an excellent double room (massive bed) with ensuite bathroom. A great and warm welcome from Soufiane.
Breakfast on the room terrace outside overlooking the roofs of Fes.

5 minutes walk to the centre of the Medina - what's not to like!

  • The riad was a very pleasant experience; the room was spacious and comfortable and not at all cramped, as many riad rooms can be. The bathroom was especially attractive and, most welcome, very well lit. We had one evening meal at the riad and must say that it was quite good and showed that there were many dimensions beyond the standard and, after a while, repetitive tajines and kabobs. One surprising delight, actually not directly pertaining to the riad, is the Palais Jamai hotel steps away from the riad. Have a glass of wine on it's terrace overlooking the Medina in late afternoon and dusk as darkness and a hush settles over the city. That is quite an experience. Soufiane was a fine and helpful host.

  • Apologies it took a while to write as we are still traveling all over morocco! Nevertheless, just wanted to thank Soufiane for his fantastic hospitality throughout our stay. He was always taking care of our needs and we appreciate that very much! And we chose to have the meal on out last night at the riad and we didn't make a wrong choice at all. Food tasted amazing and you can really feel and taste that moroccan flair in every dish. Special thanks to Samra( not sure if that's the spelling of her name). Thank you for everything guys! Good luck and bless your hearts!

  • Soufiane went out of his way to make our visit a great success. The beautiful accommodation is easy to find and the food there was excellent. We really liked Fes and would stay here again and enjoy the rooftop terrace.

  • We had an amazing stay at Soufiane's Riad! Here's why:

The location: The Riad, located at the edge of the medina, really was easy to find. It was at one of the gates, so a short walk to taxis, but not at the main gate where a lot of the other hotels and touristy things are located. It was overall very quiet, but had some of the medina noises that you would expect.

The space: We really lucked out by being the only ones at the Riad for the duration of our stay. This meant that we had the whole place to ourselves. Soufiane was always there and happy to check in with us and offer help, but we certainly felt at home. The room was big and comfortable. There was a heater to help with those chilly February Fez nights, and there was hot water for the shower.

The host: Soufiane was always available and happy to help. We had a thousand questions about Fez and Soufiane had about the same amount of answers. He recommended restaurants, a hamam, a medina guide and helped us with taxis. We did however find that it was hard to get away from the typical tourist stuff during our stay, and Soufiane's recommendations generally tended towards the tourist stuff and less towards an authentic experience that we were asking for, so don't be afraid to venture out on your own (which we did, eventually).

The food: For 15 Euros each you can enjoy a delicious meal (feast) right in the Riad. We had a lunch and dinner there and both meals were among the best that we had in Morocco.

  • The Riad is very nice and the room and bathroom were clean. As it was still pretty cold, we were glad that we could use a heater in the room and that the water was hot. The breakfast was modest but nice. Soufiane welcomed us with traditional mint tea and was very kind.

We had ordered dinner for the first night, but to be honest, it was rather expensive compared with Moroccan restaurants (15 Euro per person) - but to be fair, we knew about the price before.

Unfortunately, we had one experience - not directly related to the accommodation - which we didn't appreciate. Soufiane had organised a "private" tour in Fes (1/2 day) for 300 Dirham. In the beginning, we were happy when the guide picked us up from the Riad. But then five other people joined the tour (who only had to pay 50 Dirham each). Also, the tour was rather commercial, as we mainly spent our time in shops (where the guide would probably get a commission). When we told Soufiane that we were not happy about this, he was surprised but didn't really make up for it. In the end, we paid less than the 300 Dirham but we still felt cheated.

In conclusion, the Riad is very nice and Soufiane is trying to do his best, but we would advise other travellers to be careful when booking tours or other activities.

  • We had a great stay here and Soufine was an amazing host. He helped us find a guide the first day we arrived which was an excellent way to get our bearing of the medina and see things we would not have found alone. The riad is prefect with amazing facilities and beautiful decor. Riad is located in a great spot in the medina and the complimentary breakfast is amazing! Something else I would definitely recommend is the dinner they provide at the riad. It does cost extra but was easily the best food we had eaten during our time in morocco. I fully recommend staying here with Soufine! Thanks for the great time and conversations Soufine!

  • Staying at Riad Dar Bab Fez was amazing. There was true hospitality by Soufiane and his team and they went to leaps and bounds to make sure our stay in Fez was great. I could only wish that we could've stayed longer. It is located in Fez Medina close to the Sofitel hotel, and is a short 5 minutes walk to any of the main streets.

The room was clean and tidy with a nicely decorated bathroom. The living room area on the bottom floor was kept cosy with heaters during our stay in the wintertime. I felt at home the whole time and could relax in the public area to read a book or surf the net on the wifi made available.

Soufiane was a great host and was very knowledgable in helping us to decide the next part of our trip through the Atlas Mountains and how to leave from Fez. He was happy to take us around the Medina to find a suitable hammam and arranged dinner at home for us. Breakfast was also a nice touch.

It was a humbling experience in the hospitality that Soufiane and the household staff showed us, and I highly recommend this place to stay while in Fez.

  • Staying with Soufiane was great, my friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our experience with him. He was a great host and was very helpful, even organised a tour guide for us. If you get the chance you should definitely have a meal at his Riad, it was one of the best meals we've had in Morocco. The room was very spacious and although we did not have hot water, Soufiane was very apologetic and was able to fix this on the last day. I would definitely stay here again.
Thank you for a great stay Soufiane!
