About This Listing
We have two traditional Kerala house (Tharavadu) offering four bed rooms and all amenities.
Cottages mostly brick and wooden built with antique doors and furniture. Each cottage has two air-conditioned rooms with a verandah.
The Bathrooms are open-roofed similar to those in the homes of old Kerala with ultra modern plumbing of course, and hot-and-cold running water too. You can shower under the sheltering sky, yet in complete privacy.
Kuttanad, a stretch of 75 km stands sandwiched between the vast serene sea & the magnificent hills. The bewildering labyrinth of shimmering waterways composed of lakes, canals, rivers & rivulets, is lined with dense tropical greenery and preserves rural Kerala life styles that are completely removed from the buzz of city life . The views change from narrow canals and dense vegetation to open vistas and dazzling green paddy fields.
The sweeping Network of canals honey-combing the town of Alappuzha has earned the sobriquet, "THE VENICE OF THE EAST". Do not miss out on a ride into Kuttanad through shimmering, green paddy fields and tail-waging, head-bobbing groups of ducks. The Coir workers too present an interesting sight. Alleppey becomes the cynosure of all eyes in August-September, every year when the water regatta unfolds itself.
Kuttanad, called the 'rice bowl of Kerala' because of her wealth of paddy crops, is at the very heart of the backwaters. The scenic countryside also has a rich crop of banana, cassava and yam. Inland waterways, which flow above land level, are an amazing feature of Kuttanad. This is perhaps the only region in the world where farming is done 1.5 to 2 m below sea level. Alappuzha Beach is one of the most popular picnic spots in the district. The pier, which extends into the sea here, is over 137 years old. The old lighthouse on the beach is a fascination for visitors.
We had a wonderful stay in our little Bungalow in Alappuzha. It was so comfortable and cozy and we loved our semi out door shower. We had 2 evening meals cooked and one breakfast which were unreal. The cottages are central to everything we wanted and Tony & his lovely wife guided us to what we wanted to do in the area. Thank you. We would definitely stay again. :)
En général bon séjour, la famille est sympa et nous a fait des bon dîners, ça nous a bien servie car les cottage sont à 2km du centre. Sinon dans la journée bruit des traveau juste à côté sauf le dimanche.
First the good things. The hosts are lovely, welcoming, friendly, sincere and though coming from the station the location seems remote, its actually pretty handy for most of the things you want in Alleppey. It's the station that's out of the way. Plus it has AC and in the intense humidity of Alleppey that's a must. It's cheap too. Tony's wife (sorry I could say but not spell your name) cooks lovely meals and they don't overcharge at all for (website hidden) bad things. Doesn't that photo look pretty? It has the potential to look like that but while they build more bungalows, the owners have let it slide. The garden is an untidy mess where they burn rubbish while you're sat there. And also while they build more bungalows, you're sitting in a 12h a day building site. Also the bathroom is by no means as clean as you'd like. I told Tony and he complained about servants, but as the owner, that's your job. If the servants don't clean the dust and lizard droppings, either stand over them while they do or do it yourself.
Overall they are well meaning amateurs. I know Airbnb is for amateurs but this is not is a good way. Sorry Tony.
I take your review as very positive and I care about that dust and droppings on the top of the side wall Tile of Bathroom.About the garden i inform you that and you have seen new building is going to complete and we move the sand 3 or 4 times for the underground electrical cable and water supply..Any way by January we are making new garden
We have been at Tonys Place in februrary 2014 and i have to say he is a Perfect Host. Friendly and polite. The cottages are simple but ok for the Price.
This is a lovely cottage stay in a lovely place-Aleppey-the Venice of India. it is a nice cottage with air-con, a terrace for sitting and a charming open air bathroom at the back.. It is about a 2 km walk from the main canal/shopping area, which might be a problem for some people, but Tony is happy to provide any services, including meal preparation, sight seeing, auto rickshaw etc. I recommend a relaxing stay at Tony's Dazzle Dew Resort!
