If you are looking for an oasis in the middle of Athens then this is the spot!
An old fashioned Athenian house with a beautiful outdoor space and an exquisite roof garden, hosting amazing views of the surrounding Athenian mountains and hills.
It is situated in a central neighbourhood of Athens, with plenty of options for food, bars, coffee shops, parks, museums and many walks close at hand. You will find all public transport amenities within 10 to 15 minutes walk, Acropolis 25 mins walk, Lycabetus hill 10 mins walk, Syntagma square 20 mins walk.
The surrounding area is very peaceful. Strefi hill is literally 1 min walk from the front door. Being in the house you will feel distant from the noise of the city despite being in the centre of it.
Many of our guests have returned to our small paradise hidden away in the heart of Athens, just to stay for the pure relaxation and energy of the house and its garden...
**Note: A private bedroom inside the house, as opposed to the whole house itself, can also be reserved separately under my other listing http://www.airbnb.com/rooms/423768 **
The house offers:
A spacious kitchen, well equipped with all modern cooking facilities (coffee maker, kettle, toaster, cooker, fridge, etc).
A quaint bathroom with 24h hot water/shower/small bath
Two bedrooms are available, one double with a ceiling Fan, and one with a double loft bed and futon/bed below (sheets, linen)
A nice secluded garden, hidden away from the hussle and bustle of Athens, where you can swing in the hammocks under the grape vine or collect- if the time is right- your own fruits and vegetables(shared with myself).
Additionally you will find available a washing machine, TV, DVD player, Hi-Fi and Wi Fi Internet.
We can provide maps, smart tips and useful information regarding the city and other destinations you may have within Greece.
This is the place where you "feel at home".
note when you get taxi from syntagma square, tell the taxi driver 20 frantzi, Eksarhia. make sure you say eksarhia, otherwise he will take you to wrong place...

Steve's apartment is wonderful! A true oasis in a great neighborhood with lots of great bars and restaurants in short walking distance. The rooftop garden with view over the city is spectacular. The apartment is charmingly furnished and very comfortable. We felt at home right away and really didn't want to leave. Steve is a great host, very easy-going and personable. If you're going to visit Athens, this is the place to stay!
We had a great time at Steve´s cosy place .. Very good restaurants at nearby Exarchia Sq.
Steve's apartment is absolutely great! We were four girls and enjoyed our stay there a lot. The kitchen is fully equipped and although temperatures were already a bit chilling in November, we enjoyed the rooftop with a cup of tea in the evenings. We also fell in love with the kitten and its mum :)
The apartment is perfectly located in Exarchia neighbourhood, were you have plenty of bars, nice restaurants, bakeries and grocery stores. It's a 15 minutes walk to the next metro station. We definitely recommend Steve's place to anyone and would love to come back in spring!
This is an incredible and spacious house in Exarhia Athens. We loved our time here. The kittens that live in the house are hilarious and the location is very convenient. As queer people of color we felt very comfortable in this neighboorhood also. I would definetly stay here again!
Very authentic and unique
It was very nice. Steve is a very good guy and he make a fabulous place. A little paradise in the big city.
Four of us stayed here for two nights, the apartment has a great atmosphere and the garden was fun. Great for relaxing. A bit hot at night (middle of summer) and beds a little on the hard side. Manuel (the kitten) made our stay! Overall a good experience.
Accueil très chaleureux! Magnifique appartement atypique plein de charme!!!! Je vous le recommande vivement!!!
Three of us stayed at Steve’s paradise. We booked it twice within a 3-week period for a total of about 10 days. We took the Metro directly from the airport (a combined ticket for 3= 21euros) and then walked to his place. Best to take a taxi from the Metro if you’ve got luggage. If you do take a taxi, be sure to emphasize which Frantzi you are going to…as there are 2—in different directions!
His place is exactly as depicted in the photos…beautiful plants including a fig tree (with ripening figs) and a grape vine all the way up to the roof. My wife and I stayed in the double room, while our daughter stayed in the loft area. Steve was in the house for a good majority of the time in his studio…we didn’t really mind, though the cigarette smoke bothered my wife. The bed in the double was not the most comfortable…but it seems that the beds here are rated differently than the States. We felt that the pillows needed some refreshing as well. We didn’t know that there was a cat on premises. Not an issue with us, but might be for anyone with allergies.
The house is situated on a hill about a 40-minute (quick) walk to the Acropolis, and about a 30-minute walk to Syntagma. If we had known the city a bit better, we probably would have opted for a closer and less stressful stroll to the ancient city than from Steve’s. However, on the flip side, we got lots of exercise and learned about Athens in a hurry. We met and spoke at length with lots of friendly people on our jaunts. Remember, though, that Greece-and Athens-are going through some tough times right now and you’ll see much of that as you stroll on. We see this as a good thing, as it gave us a broader view of Athens than we would have had if we had “hidden” in a central hotel. If you choose to walk, it is a hike up and down a fairly steep a hill for half a mile. But, taxis to Monastiraki (shopping district) were about 3 euros, to Pireas (the ferry) between 18-20 euros and very readily available.
Steve was very hospitable and congenial with all aspects of navigating Athens and beyond. He even ordered take out for us from a local place (as we don’t speak Greek). He is a reflexologist who according to my wife is really good at what he does. We much appreciated Steve’s candor as he spoke with us regarding the situation in Greece from the perspective of the people.
We shopped at the local markets, even the farmer’s market on Saturdays, ate at local establishments, etc. Everyone was very nice to us. We had an authentic experience in Athens; one for which we are most grateful!
